Just hope that we do sign a good 6 or 7 with quality. No doubt we need alot of freshening up with alot of the championship boys moving on.
Forest/ or an exciting winger
Levitt and another 2 midfielders (if butchers away that is)
And a striker is needed badly. I'd be tempted to get rid of Clark as well as mcnulty as I feel we could do better.
Big pav still kicking about?

Edwards and Pawlett pictured training today. Good news.
But no sign of Liam Smith. So the big call is whether to play Freeman at RB or go 352.
I hope it's the former.
I agree with Freeman in for smith if he is out, full backs getting forward and balls in box is a must. The team started really well last week and I hope that can be replicated this week. Centre of the pitch was well in control before the enforced changes so hopefully the 3 can continue that in what will no doubt be a frantic game.
Carson has to start for me, he has been class since he stepped in for Benji - we all know how good benji is but IMO it’s Carson’s spot to lose, benji can’t just step back in.

Rumour of Reynolds to Cove so i imagine Mulgrew is to replace him. If you do have kids playing etc its important we have an experienced and solid base, id take Mulgrew for that

On the new manager topic I have just seen that some obscure young youth academy analyst has been on twitter calling the United fans clowns.
Apparently upset that the fans are upset at the prospect of an unproven manager like Courts being appointed and preferring a more experienced candidate like a McInnes instead.
United should be taking action against this guy and ideally getting rid as a club employee calling the fans clowns is totally unacceptable conduct.
This is the tweet he made.
Seen that aswell, what an idiot. Get rid of people like that, dont need them at our club!

Hahaha its not often i'd think this but right now I'd rather have shree points yogi but that's where I'm at.
Something for united to think about......not one of the young lads out on loan excelled in the lower leagues- why will playing multiple youths at once work? (Only one who excelled was Mochrie and even then he wasn't getting picked at the tail end of the season.) Maybe they arent ready to be exposed to first team football in the premier
I personally dont think Yogi would be the worst, managed to somehow keep a really sh*@e county team up and tries to atleast let players express themselves, playing football.
The Tam Courts thing for me is a no, fair enough we might have good youth coming through but you cant throw them in and expect it to work. Your right that they need to play week in week out down the divisions and if they are playing well then integrate them.
Fingers crossed for del boy.

I'm probably in the minority but i quite liked Powers. Calm on the ball and a good passer.
Had a lot of time for Powers. If a Championship club go for him I reckon he would shine in that league given a run of a games.
Always though Powers had a bit of a raw deal at us. He was getting up to speed and championship ended then was never really given a sniff in the prem. Thought with that little bit more time and space he could have been a strong player for us in the prem. He definitely stood out on the ball for me, didnt rush and could pick a pass.

yogi wouldnt be the worse imo, can see del boy getting it though.
Surprised Mellons going though, was looking forward to seeing him next year however with Ashghar theres never any certainty!

Pick the right team, employ the right tactics and get us out of this malaise.
In terms of tactics, he was employing the tactics that (although awful to watch) were picking us up points. In the last 2 games he's left Edwards benched and moved to a back 4. This has cost us massively. I will hold my hands up and say I was calling out for 442 but after watching us in the last two games I was to see us back to a 352, difficult to beat in the next two away games.
Benji
Connolly
Edwards
Reynolds
Smith
Butcher
Fuchs
Sporle
Clark
McNulty
Shankland
Agree, shite to watch but got us points. I was one too calling on 442 and although i believe hes got personnel wrong it still hasnt worked.
Give Mellon a bit of time, stay up this season and get rid of players we all know need to go and bring in more quality. Boys only had 8 month, we were always gonna have a dip in form and as soon as we have boys are shouting for his head.
Gonna be another change and another bad run then another call for sacking. People need to realise we cannot just jump back to the teams of 2010 and 2014 because we are in the prem again.

A glance at the weather forecast should help you overcome that feeling 😉
Very true, however Im sure that a few festive pre match drinks in Frews would have helped with that!

4 4 Fu*@ing 2 and what a difference!!
Strikers being fed and having chances instead of sitting back playing for a nil nil.
2nd half bar first 10 we dominated and could have scored more. Great performance taking us into Christmas and you would be confident now of taking more than a point against Motherwell.
Well done Micky and the boys, onwards and upwards!
ps. it is frustrating thinking of the points we may have had against livi, st mirren etc if we had chucked the 5 at the back sooner.

It’s pointless picking the bones out of today’s game, we all knew what was coming and we all know what’s in the post next week.
Questions need to be asked and addressed in the recruitment department, McNulty will be on a decent wedge and whilst he is far from the worst that has walked through the doors in the last few years he must be asking himself why he is here.
Clearly our best player is Shankland and the limitations of our centre mids were there for all to see in the Championship last season, we desperately needed a Target man to compliment him if we were going to go from back to front and Shankland and McNulty is just not going to work.
COVID has had an impact on recruitment and we are not alone but I find McNulty a like for like and Fuchs from what I have seen so far is also much of a much. These two players won’t have come cheap and they ain’t the worst but we could have and should have bought different types of players for two critical positions.
The Ogden’s in my opinion should be looking at the performance of the sporting director and asking if they are getting value for money and if it’s a return on transfer fees then ask themselves who will demand a transfer fee in the coming transfer window that has been brought in by him.
I agree in some aspects although both Shankland and McNulty should be able to get goals in this league. I dont believe its the centre mids fault for the lack of creation infact the majority of time they may aswell no be playing as the back 3 simply miss them out by punting it long. Surely Mellon has seen our games from last season and is aware that we beat teams and created alot from trying to be on the front foot, playing football and getting the ball wide. The majority of our goals came from wide play - and for anyone who uses the 'but we are a newly promoted team' we beat st mirren and gave a good hibs team a run for their money. I believe it has to be a back 4 and that will allow
Dundee United » Utd v Livi - Friday 2nd October (7.45pm) » 02/10/2020 9:11 pm |
Well this is the biggest wake up call yet to the board and Ashgar yet that we need some better quality in. Shocking performance and fair enough Livi stop any team from playing football but we need to be better. Shankland got no service and was a wasted man. Once again the defense fail to do the basics and we pay the price, ship atleast a goal every week now.
And in a game where you need some composure why not look to someone like Powers?....Harkes just runs about and offers nothing on the ball.

Dundee United » Lawrence Shankland - Scotland » 26/8/2020 12:29 pm |
Match fit or not it will be to get him in and around the squad. He will be in the Scotland set up for the next few years atleast so it gets him prepared for what its like and mixing with the other players.
Sure it was Cyprus he was named on the bench but never got on (i mind half the crowd was baffled as to why) but he later came out and said he had an injury. I guess this is similar and Clarke wants him to be involved in some way.

Don’t think anyone really stood out, Bolton was a threat until he tired.
Need Shankland back ASAP
Totally agree, dont think Pawlett was too bad (missed a chance and gave away a bad ball) but battled away. Harkes and Bolton stood out more for me.
Need a big battering ram of a striker in my opinion to give an extra option going forward, cause problems to long balls or balls in the box, too lightweight without shankland.
