I've really tried to be positive this season even when we've lost, but that was gut wrenchingly poor. Only Deniz is getting any plaudits from me. The rest were pathetic

Butcher isn't a midfielder at this level, he's a centre half. Partner him with Reynolds if we're sticking with these players.
But not a single performance tonight to give pass mark to, excepting Deniz.

Sporle , Harkes & Chalmers offered nothing tonight. No composure what so ever.
I doubt MM asked them to just punt it forward as soon as they got it.
I think we only had 1 shot all night, could be the lowest of all time and I go back a few years.
Online!
Woeful.
Worst all season.
2nd fuckup thats cost us a game Connolly. (Notwithstanding Edwards fuckup.)
Leaves us still looking shit at the back and no word of CB inbound.
Not 6 passes on the carpet once. Dire to watch aerial ping pong & no just that but half of aerial loose balls were the sort that just hang in the air impossible to get traction and direction. Butch and Reynolds could mebbe be best CB pairing . Feel for Shankland. Hope the Cameroon guy goes through. Live in hope for Sav.
Deniz had a good game.

Well this is the biggest wake up call yet to the board and Ashgar yet that we need some better quality in. Shocking performance and fair enough Livi stop any team from playing football but we need to be better. Shankland got no service and was a wasted man. Once again the defense fail to do the basics and we pay the price, ship atleast a goal every week now.
And in a game where you need some composure why not look to someone like Powers?....Harkes just runs about and offers nothing on the ball.

We are just screaming out for someone in the centre who just controls the ball. Hoofing it up and hoping is what you do in Fifa when you're bored.
The defence is a joke, honestly, I don't know if it's purely confidence or more but there has to be changes and the lads need to sit and be honest.
My goal for United this season was just stay up, get through it and work from there, but that looks like a far bigger test than I imagined.
I'd honestly play full strength sides in the cup matches coming up. They don't know how to play as a team, so keep making them play until they figure it out.

We'll never find out the truth I expect, but I'm wondering why Reynolds, who is far from my favourite player, wasn't part of the eleven tonight.
And we'll never get to know why, given a dismal first half performance, changes weren't made earlier than 75 minutes, and why other players such as Powers, McMullan, Mochrie or Neilson weren't given a chance to replace players offering alarmingly sub standard displays.
I accept Micky has inherited most of the players utilised tonight, but several have had too many opportunities while others appear unfairly out of favour. It makes it appear that the manager favours boys who either show up well in training, or have faces which fit, neither quality winning points for "(we are) Dundee United".
I'm disappointed by Micky's post match summation.

That was horrific tonight.
One shot on target all night (the goal). In fact only ONE shot at goal, full stop.
We are absolutely shite to watch.
Asghar and Mellon need to get the finger out and make 3 or 4 signings by Monday night or we are in a real relegation dogfight.
And i don't mean a Florent Hoti type signing either.
I mean players fit, able and ready to walk right into the 1st XI and improve it. If we can't do this btw why are we paying Asghar to be in our employ?
He's had MONTHS to identify what we need alongside the Manager.

Blatantly obvious our tactics tonight we’re to lump it up park at every opportunity, fucking bizarre from Mellon! Could sign as many good players as you want but fuck me if there the tactics you’ve got no chance
Which really is a bizarre tactic against Livi. Who eat up that type of tactic.
We aren't even effective in the air anyway. Zero headers scored in TEN games.

Dundee United manager Micky Mellon: "Against a direct side who are good at it, we dealt with that on the whole."We're disappointed we didn't play the way we want to, but you have to stand up to the challenge and we did. To lose a goal right at the end is gut-wrenching."

He had to call that out tonight.
Alarming that he is anyway sugar-coating that performance. Fuck sakes.

Funny how happy Asghar was to be in the limelight last season when things were going good. He's been in hiding since the Hearts saga disappeared.

We got what we deserved last night - nothing.
Created nothing, were 2nd to the ball all night and to a man were not as good as our opponents
( Deniz excluded )

Malky Mackay wouldn't have lost that tonight. Cheers snowflakes

Well that was an absolute shambolic performance last night, worst performance i have seen in a while!
MM has came in as manager who has been a FRIEND of Tony Asghar for many of years and talked the talk in interviews since being appointed in early July it is now the start of October and is he now struggling? We are now a couple of days before the window closes and you just know we are about to see panic buys come in.

Not sure what Mellon is trying to get at with his comments. We didn’t ‘answer the questions’ this week at all. Yes the centre halves won headers but Livi picked up every second ball. They also pressed and harassed us into what I imagine are embarrassing passing stats which impacted our whole performance. His answer to not creating opportunities was ‘well, neither did they’. They created a lot more than us though. Good ones too.
It’s almost like he beat himself in his head before kick off. Expecting a brutal 90 minutes and hoping we come through the other end with something. That’s the polar opposite to his early season comments.

Any chance he is being positive and protecting the players to the media, and then telling them how it really is in the dressing room?

Hopefully, but not sure if that’s the case or not.

Almost certainly yes.
Livi were 5th last year, and they looked far better than us.
I thought 9th was the best we could get this year, nothing has changed

Think these are very fair comments, and realistic, Beharder, given the squad.
The frustration though is that, even with the limited ability of the squad we have, that game last night was a real abomination for all to see. I'd expect a much lower ranked team than us to put in a far better performance in a home match than we did.
Also, I don't think the display we put on was a huge surprise to many of us, as performances generally have been poor so far this season.
Takning the last three games where we probably hoped for 7 or even 9 points, we were lucky to escape with 3 against St Mirren, and played well for about 20 minutes in that match. Hamilton a point was fair in an evenly balanced match, and we were well humped last night. These games after losing 9 goals and 9 points in the previous three matches.
2 points from the last 18 available would have possibly been a fairer haul.

Almost definitely. There's no way he's giving them a pat on the back after that.
I think Livingston were good last night and we have to give them credit.
Offline
We all knew that without signings we would struggle this year and that has not changed. I'm disappointed with the display last night as we all knew how Livingstone would set up and play and at the very least we should be able to match them but that wasn't the case last night. We have matched most teams this season old firm apart and I'm sure this won't be the last time we see the team underperform but I'm not sure what MM's game plan was as not to register any shots on goal is not " the Utd way " to play.
