Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

On Saturday Utd travel to West Lothian and to a ground we do not have a good record at, to put it mildly.

Utd's last win at 'Almondvale' came on the 12th February 2005 with goals from Stevie Crawford and James Grady in a rare 0-2 away win

On the flipside however (whisper it) ,Utd are undefeated in the Premiership for over 2 months (by the time Saturday comes) and indeed our last defeat was actually against Livingston when they snatched all the points against us at Tannadice with a last minute winner on October 2nd.

Utd have a tough month scheduled for December. Can the undefeated run continue?

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

I think we'll see another "low-risk" performance and it'll either be 0-0 or a 0-1 defeat. I know it won't be 3-0 United

Ironically, we've got more chance of winning if we lose an early goal

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Literally any other team in the league bar the top 2 and i'd be optimistic about getting something. However, with the removal of Holt they appear to have their up and at 'em, high-pressing style of play back and for 5.5 years we've been unable to cope with any team who does this successfully. Be it Dumbarton, Hopkin's Livi, Ayr united etc etc. So history tells you not to expect much from this fixture.

A very good opportunity for Mellon to show further development though. 2 weeks to think about things and work with the players, Shankland rested and Mcnulty & Fuchs fitter. Which gives us a few glimmers of hope.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Shankland really needs to get back amongst the goals.

I know it's been a start-stop season for him what with injury and then Scotland call-up's, but he has (hopefully) a clear run now where he can get back in the team and back to what he does best.

Yip, no better time for him to start a wee run of scoring games than now.  Decent opposition, run up to Christmas, more focus on the games - ideal chance to rekindle his Euro 2020 hopes.

100% agree. His performances have been fine. He hasnt done much wrong. But the Shankland we saw last season has not been seen at all this season. The player that looked like he would score every time he was in the box.

I would go with the usual 3 at the back, Smith and Sporle wingbacks, Fuchs and Butcher in the centre, with Clark and McNulty floating behind Shankland. I think its a solid foundation to not get beat and hopefully snatch a win.

Is Butcher not suspended?

No idea mate? If so, Harkes or Powers to come in would seem the obvious option.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Shankland did a bit of ball winning on about 85 mins v Accies which said everything is ok with him.
Unfortunately for us it was in the centre circle but it was sheer class.
I at once termed it the champagne moment of the game.

Agreed but ferk me it must be frustrating as a poacher to play in that system. You’re basically looking at taking every single chance to have any kind of decent scoring return. Look at the first game last season against ICT, cross after cross being delivered (from deep as well as byline) and what happened? 4 goals. Just now we’re just punting long hopeful balls which defenders love. Hopefully the goal Clark scored last game shows Mellon we are more than capable of doing something a bit more expansive.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

So going by various rumours from fellow Arabs over the past day or two, our team and formation later today is possibly looking something close to this later today. U18 lads supposedly filling the bench. Good luck to all of them.

........................Siegrest...............
.......Edwards..Connolly...Reynolds...
L.Smith...Powers..Harkes..Fuchs..Sporle
...........Shankland...McNulty.......

Subs - Mehmet, Neilson, Appere, Caves
Duffy, Watson, K.Smith, King, Hutchinson

I thought Siegrest, Reynolds and King were rumoured to be 3 of the 9?

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Shocking performance verging on unwatchable. What did we muster, a couple shots on target? If I were Shankland I'd hand in a transfer request in January before my reputation as a finisher dips due to our style of play.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Just a typical awful United performance.  Got what we deserved.

Just a question of how many the Huns will score next Sunday.

Get a fucking grip of this team Mellon or fuck off.

Mellon wasn't there today.

It was always a question of how many they will score next Sunday.

I think someone else may need to get a grip, we are still sitting 6th and you want to sack the manager.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

This is not Dundee United. It is an expensive vanity project full of one person's pals.

Too much commotion

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

We are unwatchable.

This is the most boring Dundee United in my lifetime.

And for those saying 'we are 6th', we won't be by Hogmanay, that is for damn sure.

We are in a relegation dogfight and i fear for us tbqh.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Honestly, the reaction from some fans to a defeat is ridiculous.

Oh spare me.

It's not just a reaction to today's defeat. It's the whole season.

We have nothing about us and it's completely unwatchable shite.

Re: Livingston v's Dundee Utd - Saturday 5th December

Woulda been mare than happy we 1 point the day,  but if I'm honest, thought that the gehm was shite. Oor passing was woeful. We just couldna keep the ba. No looked at the stats, but I'm guessing that they'll show Livi a cut above us.

Ken we had a depleted squad, but we still have some good individual players on the pitch. Musta only had 1 or 2 attempts on target. But once again, Shanks just doesna get the service in the danger area. He was mighty p1ssed aff toward the end.

Only thing in oor favour was the Well getting humped.

Faird oe what next week might bring.

Don't watch then. I didn't. It's completely predictable. The pattern is set, this is us for the season and it will keep us in the league which is the only thing that matters.

Then what? Will you just accept the same shite next season? If that is what this football club has been reduced to then I'm out.
