Middleton:
Fast, makes full backs uncomfortable, hits the bye line.
Got a shot on him now Jim told him to add this to his locker.
Covers an immense and underappreciated amount of ground.
Jim likes him, he likes Tannadice.
24, lot to learn and a willing learner.
Keep.

Steven Fletcher.
Out of contract at Wrexham on June 30th. They will now spend millions, he will be released.
Yes, he's 38 but he seems still very fit. Just scored 8 goals in English League One, 1 assist. Started only a few games, but made 40 appearances all in. So, obviously been fit all season.
Wouldn't be offering him the wage he was on previously, obviously, but i think he'd still do a job, either from the bench or starting.
We are losing a whole load of experienced players. Be good to have someone like him in the dressing room. Experienced, fit, strong, athletic, a presence, a bit of aura, a winner.
And before someone says something like 'he got us relegated'. He was very good in that season, particularly playing in such a poor side. Pretty much the only player who was. One of the best Striker's we've had in recent years.
. ... What's Safkranko doing ?
Or without being sarky, won't happen, we can do better.

We''re no going 3rd if we don't attack
Midddleton/Trappa interchangeable
Babunski 1st drop
Subs - Richards, Harding, Moult, Babunski
VDS, Fotheringham
- leaves us threadbare if we do go one up.
Campbell and Paton on the bench, Fotheringham not in squad.
Me and the missus for Campbell/Paton. Fotheringham's there.

Aim 1: To absolutely minimise any reduction in goal difference.
With that in mind draw or at worst going down 1 v 0 especially bearing in mind SSB's play Hibs and superior goal diff v SSB's is worth a point in the wash up.
We've shown we can nick the draw against them with our defensive masterclass earlier in the year and a draw wins them the title.
Aim 2: Win. What we've successfully done all year - tight at the back hit on the counter for the full 90+. Can't see why Jim would be telling them anyyhing else. Oh aye and give Jota a right good kicking (no that I could possibly say that nowadays).
And remember oldie but goldie - champion team beats team of champions.

If he gets booked in 4th game and we appeal on the Wednesday how long does it take for appeal to be heard ? ie would decision get deferred a week ?
I don't think we can appeal a yellow card mate
Cheers ADS Let's hope it disnae happen.

Celtic game is unique.
Potential title winner for them.
Milk them for every pound.
Milk them to pay the cost of damages outside the ground for overburden outside that cannae get through the gate.
Milk them to pay for damages inside the ground.
We owe them zip, Scottish football owes them nada zilch nothing.
Better off without them and their Hun sister but that's a whole other thread.

All of the above.
Awra best young man, get weel.
Verstile tireless, hard working,on and off the ball.
If we do miraculosly get the opportunity to have him back, you'd struggle to get better.

Sevelj and docherty were brilliant, think you’ve got to give docherty a new deal, rather have him for 20/25 games than a dud, the difference he makes to the whole team is unbelievable.
Was saying the same on the bus home yesterday, if you can get him fit for 25/38 league games he’s like 2 players.
United’s Premiership win percentage with Docherty is 60% (nine from 15), while their win percentage without him is 18.75% (three from 16).
Quite the difference
Wow read this after posting about whether to keep him.
- Keep, for sure.

Injuries v influence v cost v age v hunger for the badge ?
- keep him for me.
I'd go so far as to say mebbe a wee bit cotton wool in training.
More swims - something, to get another years contract fae old bones and wise heid.
- Thoughts gentlemen.

Sometimes wonder at the reality of this thread ?
Given our conveyor belt of injuries, Jim's at times bizarre selections, bizzare use of subbies or lack therof (Docherty),lack of depth in squad etc etc.
Only concrete ones for me:
Walton
Strain Gallacher (if fit ? ) Graham Ferry
Luca Sevelj Sibbald
Trappa
Dalby
One or two of the others I'd hope never to see in Tangerine again - prefer not to go there, rather not hear about after performance which shall remain nameless.

The loss of Gallacher, Ferry was critical v Sheep. But really it came back to sitting in 2nd half.
Babunski - for me to good of a talent - adds something different, intelligent and technical prowess for me to be gettin the splinters full time. Result - we now have a midfield with a very samey feel to it and certainly a very samey match plan which gives opposing managers a leg up.
To go from Captain to bench, obviously something wrong but we're now in a position where he's no longer fully match fit and can only be considered as subbie even if we did need him.
On an aside we go from the sublime to the ridiculous in terms of fixtures - from 21 matches in 7 days to repeated fortnights interuptions, which you'd think would help with injuries - it doesn't, just seems to interrupt the flow and it's really just a pain in the arse - nae fitba.
Dundee United » Aberdeen vs United - Sunday 2nd March (3PM) » 03/3/2025 11:55 pm |
Should have kept the foot on the gas and gone for 3 v 0 instead of which we were fortunate to scrape a point. - On you Jim.
Kai looked out his depth, Campbell anonymous.
Suffered the want of Ferry & Gallagher, but it's no like this is a great Sheep side.

Middleton..Sevelj..Sibbald..Trapanovski

Subs - Richards, Harding, Adegboyega, Paton
Fotheringham, Babunski, Fiorini, Campbell, Stephenson
Cheers Tek,
Agree with lineup other than for me Sibbald needs kid gloves for another week.
So Babunski to get another chance for me.
Another thing Jim said in post match after VAR farce was Stephenson pulled up immediately afterwards fae standing round in the cauld - no surprise there - and the fact that it's going to happen time and again. So we shall see on Stevenson's fitness.
(Fucx VAR, still seething ..... )
Dundee United » United vs Hibs - Wednesday 26th February » 26/2/2025 11:03 pm |
Fuck VAR
Farce.
Get rid or benifit of the doubt should go to attacking team.
And as for thon Dickison don't get me started. See the goal kick that lead to their 2nd - no way could it have done anything other than be deflected miles in the air for a corner.
Thought Hibs were good (we let them) but overall we were better. Although Jim knew they would press high and let them.
MOTM nominees: Dalby, Sevelj, Campell, Strain, and of course Ferry.
Winner: Ross Graham, class
Special mention: Oor Willie, great to see him back
Beginning to be a worry: Paton

I think it's hoarses for courses as they say, tomorrow night Moult is injured so thus might just be the chance the VDS has been waiting for and against a team of giants he might get the nod ahead of Paton.
I much prefer watching us shen Middleton is playing but would take a winning performance over style every day of the week.
Mate I 100% cannae disagree. Jim certainly 100% agrees with you.
- But I want 90 minutes of attractive fitba.
- I want to see best 11 on park for starters, use the best ammunition we have from the opening whistle instead of in desperation 1/2 way through 2nd half.
- I want to go at 100 miles an hour from the beginning instead of this canny stuff (I'd love to see a stat on when we scored opener)
- 100% wins are what I want.
- Attack isnae wanting yer cake an eating it. It should be habit.
Now we've had some thrillers wi last minute winners no doubt - but 3 nil against Ross County is the biggest win we've had. What I'm saying is winning ugly is one thing but bangin in the goals should be the habit - I'd rather be 3 v 0 up scoring attractive football after 60 than 0 v 0 after 80.
- You get used to goalscoring the rest takes care of itself
I don't think there's a fan of any club on the planet the doesn't want what you describe above.
The reality is though that half this squad were assembled to come out on the right side of a square go down at Cappilow on Tuesday night in December. And it shows through they refuse to be bullied by anyone and the league table proves it.
Probably for another thread on another day but I don't think a Jim Goodwin side will ever play that brand of football that I have rarely seen in my 35 years of going to watch United.
Love the fitba'.
Love these discussions.
