Dundee United » Motherwell vs Utd - Saturday 3/9/22 » 05/9/2022 10:20 am |
A big part of our issue is that Liam Smith either gives the ball away every time or, turns back and plays the safe pass back to Edwards because he think's he'll give the ball away if he tries to play anything progressive which kills any momentum we have. Edwards isn't much better and just keeps giving the ball to Smith rather than playing the ball into midfield, which again kills our momentum.
Ian Harkes also continually gives the ball away as well.
Watt gets the ball then tries to be clever or dives when anyone comes near him but hardly ever wins fouls also killing our momentum.
Behich, despite being a left wing back, also appears reluctant to use his left foot (noticed this on Saturday) and appears reluctant or unable to drive forward.

The quality of our passing was horrific yet again. We really have no discernable style and ability to build attacks. It's mind mumbing to watch.
The good thing is a new manager can make a difference. You only need to look at Motherwell who were equally horrendous under Alexander at the start of the season. Hammell has got them knocking the ball about with a purpose and creating chances. Lets face it, poor finishing let them down on Saturday. On another day they could have won 3 nil.

If today is what Utd players fought Jack Ross to get back to we're absolutely fucked.

This whole thing feels like Heggy and Mo getting handed their stuff in a black bin bag, all over again.
Jack Ross seems like a decent, honest guy and he was on "a different level" as a coach when we hired him 2 months ago. Today's statement from the club is pretty terse. I think Jack Ross deserved a more respectful comment than that.
I have no idea what sort of an individual is going to want to come into the middle of this mess and take over. Personally, I'd be very happy with Levein. Some of the players might not be though.
I am completely out of the loop wrt the word on the street about player cliques. Can anyone enlighten me?The black rooster gang is Mulgrew Watt and others who frequent that establishment often.
The rumour is Mulgrew had it very cushty under Tam having a say on tactics and even the training he took part in. When Ross came in he put a stop to that and told him he was a player, not a coach. And if he didn't like that to go elsewhere.
Charlie apparently led the players meeting a couple of weeks back saying he had no faith in Ross' methods and Watt chipped in backing him up.
All rumour of course.
Do Black Rooster do a good vegan menu?

It's the fans fault though. Toxic cunts spreading rumours. The business we've done is superb. Great hashtag as well.

What about when we signed Alphonse Tchami and Mvondo Atangana from Cameroon. Or did they have French passports or something?

Pretty surprised Meekison and MacLeod played in this.
Thought both would be on the bench on Thursday, and they might still be. But why risk them in that case?
It's still early season, maybe JR feels they need a game to get a bit more match fitness into their legs?

Tbh it was the worst game to get after Thursday. However it doesn't excuse us playing into their hands with a lack of movement and leaving our defenders to be the ones starting attacks. The biggest attacking problem we have however is the two full backs are absolutely dreadful footballers. Everything we did 1st half broke down when Smith got the ball then it was similar with McMann in a fair chunk of the second half, especially flogging the goal after an error strewn 5 mins after half time. The Aussie boy, Freeman and Mulgrew hopefully on Thursday night. Levitt was pish as well today, looked tired/disinterested after Thursday. Manager should have hooked him and not Sibbald or put Meekison on for him instead. Wee Cudjoe was excellent simply because he is brave and instinctive. Too many of our players are shit scared to try anything, even an early pass.

Just finished listening to a Dode Fox podcast episode - trying to catch up after being away. Question asked was "If there was one United player from any point in our past that you could have back in our team right now, who would it be?" Can't remember if Paul McNicol had an answer and Ronny Costello said Craig Brewster (because he would thrive on a really slow build-up involving no wingers that gets the ball near the opposition box once every 20 minutes). Thought to myself - has to be Ralphie Milne every day of the week. Width, blistering pace, goes past defenders like they're not there, scores from anywhere, puts them on a plate for everyone else. Everything we need right now.
Real pace terrifies defenders and for me, our number one focus right now should be on a quality wide player with fantastic pace.
Unfortunately it won't be Ralphie, or anyone like him. They broke the mould after George Best and Ralph Milne were made.
Funny I've not listened to this weeks podcast but I was thinking about what type of player we could do with given ideally we could do with a right winger and also a backup/alternative striker with real pace and the name that popped into my head was:
Kevin Gallacher
Because he could play both roles and when I was a kid I loved watching him tearing past defenders. Having someone who could get us up the park quickly would be great. Even if most of his crosses ended up in The Shed!

Dundee United » Summer Transfer Window » 22/7/2022 7:44 am |
Middleton didn't play as a winger for St Johnstone. He played as a number 10 in a 3-5-2 system as the one behind 2 strikers or, more often in a 3-4-2-1 as one of the 2 in behind the striker. Decent player technically, but not sure he's what we need. Im guessing we've been told to bolt by our A list and (maybe) B list of targets in the number 10 position (McGrath) and wide position.

Most folk that went to the games last year were well in agreement that squad needed major strengthening. There is always the odd crazy cat that won't hear a bad word said but for the most for a long while it's been a really hard watch.
So far we have been slow off the blocks as per usual.
Fingers crossed that we can get in a few more but it more hope than expectation. The manager has been quite direct in saying he needs 5 players (including the Aussie).
With a bit of luck Tony might be back behind his desk this week and getting on with the day job.
Happy with Levitt I think that us fans played a massive role in getting him to come here by making both the lad and his parents very welcome, but the club obviously deserve credit.
Time will tell with Fletcher , I've no doubt about his quality and I know he played a good few games last year but he's a year older at 35 and injured already. Fletcher will also be on some wedge, so let's hope my fears are unfounded and he contributes well this season.
Sibbald is the easiest one and one that I think will be a good addition, someone who will be busy on the pitch for us and can play in a number of positions, a real team player.
The keeper also is a massive gamble in my opinion, a guy for some reason never quite settled in Holland or Wales and here we are shelling out a transfer fee for him. Let's hope he can make a comfortable move and settle in well from Perth Australia to Dundee.
There's a mountain of graft to be getting on with and let's hope there is no quiz nights coming up😉
Great post
