I feel no youngster is being developed for the first team, but instead to be sold at the first possible moment for X amount. Take the substitute appearances of Kerr Smith and Rory MacLeod, I see that as purely for the shop window when a TV broadcast comes around. Those who seem to stick around aren't good enough to sell but can be decent in the squad. But for those who show more promise, it's an easy 500k for Utd and teams like Newcastle will pay that as they've lost more running for the bus.
We also have to remember all these top players we think are coming through, Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, Celtic, Rangers and probably the likes of St. Mirren etc. have the same amount if not more promising talents in their ranks.
Great post. I'm swithering about keeping up my Foundation membership for this very reason. I'm not paying money to help the club develop an academy who's real purpose appears the be developing young players for Premiership u23 teams and helping Ogren get his money back with no discernible benefit to United's first team. I don't identify with the youth players coming through any more for that reason. Sunday was a clear example with McLeod put on when imho he's nothing like ready for mens football, whilst a dying on his feet and totally disinterested Levitt was left on a good 15 mins longer than he should have been, because the manager clearly doesn't rate Archie Meekison. If that's the case he should be moved on, not allowed to just hang around the club (like Glass and Chalmers) so they can continue to push this bullshit narrative that young players get a chance and are integral to the club. Players like Glass, Graham, Freeman, Chalmers, Appere and Robson were all products of the pre-Ogren youth policy. All of them started games under McNamara, McKinnon or Lazlo. We have yet to see anyone from the Goldie-led youth team make any sustained impression on the first team, and the only ones who've gotten close (Smith, Neilson) have

It was asked at the SLG meeting. This was the minutes of the response:
Luigi Capuano gave an insight into the clubs relationship with Fulham and the part that plays in our overall revenue increasing strategy, and said it highlighted that we do a lot of good work off the park.
Like everything else, the minutes say fuck all.

Dundee United » Aberdeen vs Utd - Saturday 12th November (6PM) » 13/11/2022 9:43 am |
Was at the game. Our performance can best be summed up as low tempo tippy-tappy pish. For about 15-20 mins of the 2nd half it looked like we happy to just take a 1-0 defeat, such was the lack of urgency and fight. It got better after the subs but for all the nice wee triangles of passing, it's far too ineffectual. Teams in a relegation struggle won't stay up playing that way, especially away from home where our record is abysmal.
A lot of people have said this is a repeat of 2015-16. It's not, it's not, it's a repeat of 1994-95 where we as a club thought we were too good to go down (even scudding Hearts 5-2 and Motherwell 6-1 along the way), never adapted our style and sleepwalked into relegation. Teams like Falkirk brought in boys who were up for the fight like Stevie Kirk and Mo Johnston, we sold Cleland and Bollan and brought in two foreigners one of whom never got out the reserves. That season we usually still looked decent against the teams in the top half of the league but kept losing against teams in the bottom half like Killie, Falkirk etc. Sound familiar?
Fox in some ways has made us better by stopping the scuddings we were getting under Ross but, 1. We still have no idea how to play against team's who sit in against us and let us have the ball, particularly Smith and Edwards who's distribution are both laughably bad and actually are responsible for breaking down more of our moves than our opponents (particularly Smith who CANNOT pass the ball) and 2. We are mentally weak away from home. When teams step up a gear, we don't look up for the fight because we have one way of playing (The Killie game was a blip because Killie came on to us and were awful all night). Even when we go long, Fletcher wins nothing in the air in too many games (like last night). The boy Sadat has got ability and pace but will score nothing for us because of the way we play trying to (slowly) walk the ball into the net through a packed defence. I bet he'd score a bucketload for a Liv

What can the club say?
Its done.
We move on...... I'd love to hear what Mr O's got to say.
........ Hopefully it's not done and Mr. O acts - to the benefit of the club, because I for one don't know what's going on.
You're no the joker that used to go by the name of Marklands Svelte Touch are you ?
- Similar sort of weird posts.
It's far from done.
The foundation are putting a fair wedge the clubs direction for youth development.
I won't be voting for another penny to go into the club if no explanation into why yet another fuck up was allowed to happen.
I won't be the only foundation member feeling that way
You're not. I'm not being treated like some sort of cash cow without some sort of accountability when we are fucking up on and off the park.

FletcherI'd play that as well. But I'd simplify it further and have a straightforward 4-4-2 with Watt and Fletcher playing up front together as a pair.

Just back.
A bit unlucky. They hit the woodwork a few times and had a goal disallowed so I can't say in good faith we deserved to win, but by the same token I don't think we deserved to lose. Thought Fletcher was absolutely brilliant when he came on, won everything in the air and scored a cracker. Good assist from Watto as well.
Wasn't an amazing performance but was decent. Good feeling about the next game v Motherwell, we have been very, very good at home recently.
Aye ok then.

They are a big, big side. Probably going to need a bit more physicality. Might even bring Graham in for McMann, harsh as it is.Watt has to play centrally, if that means he can't play with Fletcher in our current formation then so be it. The defence is settled and I'd not changing it barring injury. Plenty of options from the bench though which is nice for a change.
You are able to play 2 up front together you know?

Has to be the same team for me. I don’t want to see Mulgrew/Fletcher/Harkes shoehorned back in if fit. They should have to fight for their place like anybody else. I can just see Mulgrew trying to ping a long ball up to Fletcher then that becomes the norm for the day.
Agreed. Same team for me.

I reckon Behich could do a job sitting in midfield. He's experienced, mobile, two footed and seems to want to get stuck in.
I'd try:
Eriksson
Smith
Edwards
Graham
McMann
Levitt
Behich
Middleton
McGrath
Niskanen (or Cudjoe)
Watt
Subs: Birighitti, Freeman, Harkes, Sibbald, Meekison, Cudjoe, Pawlett, Anaku, Thompson.

It'll go tits up when there is crowd trouble due to away fans being on the piss for 6 hours before it. Just like it did with the old Sky TV 6.05pm Sunday kick offs.

John Gibson was definitely an interested party. Pretty sure he made Thompson an offer a year before which Thompson turned down.
Out of interest, how many Scottish clubs have went under because of Covid? Did their wealthy owners all pay to keep them afloat? Or did it cost our owner much more because we have a bloated staff on exorbitant salaries???
