Hall Of Fame » Paul Sturrock Q+A 7.30-8.30pm TONIGHT!!! » 31/10/2017 9:07 pm |
Hi Paul,
Great to have you here and taking the time to talk to us.
My question is this;
As a manager how do you deal with letting players go and which avenues were there for them to move onto college, Uni or work outside the game? If none do you feel this is lacking at professional clubs?
Thanks

Toshney struggles to understand his job at the best of time. Imagine Laszlo and him having a tactical chat

Dundee United » Who do you want as manager? *Updated Poll* » 30/10/2017 5:11 pm |
I’ll accept your info on stats Pat, what a coach looks like and his ability to motivate or demotivate is a different matter.
For me on paper we have the strongest footballing squad. In reality it takes more than ability to win a league title, drive, determination, desire are also amongst the traits needed. For me we lack in these areas can Hughes get that? nobody knows will the other names mentioned? again nobody knows.
If there was a certanty he would have been in already. Every name is a gamble, too soft, too strick, poor stats, not tactically aware, no experience, failed before etc etc etc. However we need to decide and hope for the best.
Dundee United » Who do you want as manager? *Updated Poll* » 30/10/2017 2:49 pm |
You just need to look at the number of names and coverage of votes to see no matter who comes in they are going to have to work wonders to get some sections on side.
I’ve gone for Hughes. Did well at Falkirk and ICT however had time to get ‘his’ type of characters in the dressing room. He maybe doesn’t or won’t have this time if given the job. Doesn’t spare players not performing and I’d be a hypocrite to say as a fan I didn’t want my manager to tell some of our current crop to get a fucking grips of their balls and show some heart.
I wanted him before Mixu and ICT wouldn’t let him speak to us, compo was also a problem. He only left there as their board were messing him about as I recollect. (I know we have the same issues!)
Something seems to fit for me and I can see him doing a great job for us.
I’ll gladly eat humble pie if we go for him and it turns into a shitstorm but I’m certain it could work.
Dundee United » Stephen Thompson you MUST leave for the good of the club » 23/10/2017 9:12 pm |
Indeed Scarpia, it’s the only thing that gives me pride in my team at the moment, knowing they fucking hate us
Added to this the fact they are as big a fucking basketcase as we currently are

In fact cause we following Utd give us gin and tonic and any other pain numbing substances we can get our hands on.
Dundee United » Brutal » 15/10/2017 6:43 pm |
Weak across the board, beharder is spot on. Year after year we are weak, physically and mentally. Maybe I’m too old school tae but these pussies couldn’t tie a Davie Bowman types laces.
Why are we not ripping into these teams? High tempo get on the front foot and overload the box to get some go forward.

Jesus cracking tunes there. I'm going for Smashing Pumpkins however.
Dundee United » Dufc v Morton - Saturday 23rd September » 23/9/2017 7:44 pm |
Miles better today, forward boys were starting to look like a team rather than individuals. Minding this Morton team has been playing well over the past few weeks we made them look poor for long spells. Are we the finished team, no, was that better, yes. Beers are cold and 3pts in the bag.
Have the team and management got the message, have we finally clicked, far too early to say but for tonight well done Ray and the players.
Please bring the same desire and positive play next week

Dundee United » Does McKinnon have 90 minutes to save his job? » 19/9/2017 10:24 pm |
Yep dinner is in the oven about to come oot imo. He's bought a whole new team and results have not improved and performances have been torture. Even the points we have picked up non of the wins were enjoyable to watch. ICT first game of the season was shite and it's got worse as we've gone on.
Was willing him to do well but he needs to go sooner rather than later to allow someone in who can strat to attack this league by grabbing it by the balls.

Going to try and get down for this one tomorrow so a win of any sort would be appreciated.
Dundee United » Brechin City v Dundee Utd -19/8/17 (3pm) » 19/8/2017 9:06 pm |
We were pedestrian at best, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass but as with the ladies it's nae use without penetration.
Brechin worked their socks off and deserved to get a draw. I was impressed with their No9 who bullied us in defence.
Wanted to see Fraser in the middle as the no 10 as he's wasted out wide and Kettings was rotten today and even he was releaved when it was cut short for him.
A wins a win however and we go again next week.
Dundee United » Brechin predictions » 19/8/2017 7:23 am |
Need to look for a good win and a few goals. Goal difference might be crucial come the end of the season.
Dundee United » Dundee v Dundee Utd - Wednesday 9th August (7.45pm) » 08/8/2017 4:14 pm |
Yep WD that would be my starting line up tae. Allardyce drops to the bench for Fyvie. Durnan back in and Scobbie to left back. Robson on the bench. Fraser benched and McDonald up top (if fit enough)
Dundee United » Donaldson - gone » 07/8/2017 3:50 pm |
I was trying to be nice.
However you are correct lads, if he ends up anywhere higher than Raith Rovers or Brechin then he's doing remarkably well.
Dundee United » Donaldson - gone » 07/8/2017 3:26 pm |
have made my feeling on the laddie clear a number of times so won't go over old ground, however i wish well for the future and maybe at some point he will realise what is needed. If not he'll be playing part time football within 5yrs.
Dundee United » ICT v DUFC - Saturday 5th August (3pm) » 05/8/2017 5:43 pm |
Yep he was ok a few knocks after heafty tackles but there is nothing too bad.
Not the best game ever to say the least but we held on and three points from a shite performance is all we can ask for.
Awaiting the train hame taking in the lovely sights of the heeeelands
Dundee United » Fraser Fyvie » 04/8/2017 12:08 pm |
Welcome aboard, hopefully he can help to get us the fuck out of this league and back to the SPFL. Canny wait till tomorrow at 3pm.
Dundee United » Wee Jim » 03/8/2017 9:31 am |
Due to sharing my last name with him I can only say he is in my eyes the best McLean there has ever been apart fae my dad.
He led the way in football management and we should celebrate daily the fact he stayed loyal to us and gave us some of the greatest memories in our lives.
God love you James Y McLean

Totally agree he needs to be 100% over the injury, no point in him doing any more damage.
