Mio was a class player. When wee Jim played him in midfield my old man used to rave about how good he was when we were at games. Pity he was desperate to play in defence because we had him, Narey and Van Der Hoorn who were all sweepers but only John Clark and Welshy as Centre Halves neither of whom were really outstanding. I got a pat on the head from him when I was a wee lad and was a ball boy at a Utd v Oldco reserve game around 1989. Mio gets my vote btw.

Sad news. A gentleman and a proper football man. I always associate him with 'Derek Stark, what a thumper!'

Hilson is really good for Forfar.
My choice would be Steven Thompson. Had all the attributes to be a top striker but was pish for us for 4 years then finally came good and promptly fucked off after 6 months.
McConologue clearly had a football brain and could take a goal, if him and Hilson (and Thompson possibly) had been nurtured by the current reigime they'd have come on a lot better.

Morten Wieghorst. Was never outstanding against us when he played for them but destroyed us for Celtic in the League Cup final in 97.

Ian Redford. His goal against Borussia was the best moment of my time supporting United (I include cup wins in that). Great player.

In
Mate is driving me down.
Boozer somewhere near ground for a couple of pints before the game.
Team: same as last Saturday but with Dow for Ciftci and Soapy for Morris. (I'm tempted to play Watson though and move Dillon to CH).
Result: 2-1 Utd.
Crowd: We'll have more fans than them.

Check out the video of Scott Smith's goal for Forfar on Saturday. It is about 45 seconds in. Absolute peach. Doing very well seemingly.

Andy Robertson.
Lesser Teams » What Non-Utd players did you admire? » 23/11/2014 5:18 pm |
Agree on Tommy Burns, one of football's good guys. You had to admire Brian Laudrup when he played, even if it was for them. Jamie Langfield takes the banter well these days. Rob Mckinnon ex Motherwell was a superb attacking left back. It was an absolute scandal that he didnt get more Scotland caps. He was the Andy Robertson of his day.

Slightly surprising but I'm going to say Brian Welsh. Apart from a good 6-7 months beside Petric he was rank rotten. Another was Freddy Van Der Hoorn. He wasn't a right back, but wasn't really a centre half either. Hmm.

Nadir was frustrating as fuck again today, he played really well first half but his final ball and shooting 2nd half were brutal but agree folk who cheered when he was subbied need to get a grip.
Telfer was good, Armstrong was very good. GMS not at the races again though. Some of the challenges on him are a disgrace though.
Their goal comes from our defenders clearing the ball 3 times and not once do our attacking players win the ball so it just kept getting pumped back in.

He'd not quite a 90 minute man yet, but the laddies got ability, no doubt. I am happy to have him.

Nixon was a real cult hero, erratic brilliant.
Dundee United » What past Utd player would you like to have in our team now? » 22/11/2014 1:40 pm |
Billy McKinlay for me. Him playing in the one of the two deep-lying midfield positions would transform our team. Pinging balls for GMS and Ciftci to run onto. OYF.

Never shat in IMAC's kettle on Wed. But did a classroom observation today so he had to be well on his game. Heh heh.

Aye I like my job as a teacher too, keeps the grey matter occupied. Have had to cope with a huge change in education and consequently a huge additional workload same as HBAF over the last few years. When you push past that the job is pretty good actually. Never wanted to do it when I was younger mind you. No idea what I wanted to do.
