I vote for Alan Main. Good keeper who had a brilliant rapport with the fans, oooh aaaah!

On a side note I always thought Lars was very underrated, I don't t think he will make it through to the next round, just wanted to give him some recognition.

Ian Redford. His goal against Borussia was the best moment of my time supporting United (I include cup wins in that). Great player.

Too much commotion

Tough round,

Bollan was decent,
Lars was a superb midfielder, Erik and Kjell got all the attention, but he was just as good
Alan Main was superb with the fans and under-rated by many

But Redford was class and played a big part in some massive games for us, he gets my vote

Lars Zetterland. One of the first united players I watched.

Re: Dundee Utd 'Cult Hero' Cup II - Round 1/Match 4

I don't think we would have been relegated had we kept and played Main, top class keeper and would not have looked out of place in an international team. Such a shame he had to leave, the guy should have played way more games for us.

That being said, I'm going with Zetterlund. Class player during one of my happiest times supporting United.

Re: Dundee Utd 'Cult Hero' Cup II - Round 1/Match 4

This is the toughest one yet.

Gary Bollan deserves a wee mention purely for the fact I have seen him on the odd occasion queueing up outside the GF on match days with his kids.

Ian Redford was before my time really, was moving on just when I started going to United games, but from his exploits and career at United is definitely up there in cult hero status.

For me it is between Main and Zetterlund. Main really didn't quite get the recognision he deserved internationally. I would say he played a big part in United history long after he left due to performances in a couple of relegation matches, one certainly very much a decider. Zetterlund really was quite an integral part of that 96-97 side but was the quiet man of the bunch, excellent touch and awareness on the ball and will always remember him fondly from that team and time.

Considering all that think I have to go for Alan Main.

Re: Dundee Utd 'Cult Hero' Cup II - Round 1/Match 4

Lars was excellent in his first season. And decent in his 2nd too.

Don't know what happened in his last season though as he was poor.

Maybe to many mediocre players dragging him down perhaps.

His departure was quite a sad exit tbh.I was at the 2-2 draw against part-time Clydebank at bloody Forthbank on a freezing cold tuesday night and i remember some of our 'fans' giving him pelters.Motherwellarab will back me up on that.

It was to be his last Utd appearance, sadly.

Re: Dundee Utd 'Cult Hero' Cup II - Round 1/Match 4

Ian Redford, like Ian Ferguson and Jim bett they enjoyed cult status at United leaving the amber light of Govan behind, here's hoping young Charlie shines as bright as our star in the sky

Hear their shout, hear their roar
They've probably had a barrel of ale and much, much more
Hooray, hooray, hooray, yeah
Over the hill went the swords of a thousand men

Re: Dundee Utd 'Cult Hero' Cup II - Round 1/Match 4

Main, total looney.

Had his own T-shirt being sold by weegies outside Tannadice, that alone should win him this round.
