another example of Scottish football hypocrisy here, reminds me of the Phil O'Donnell incident.
A horrendous event that happened; and rightly Motherwell games were postponed for some reason so were celtics as he had played for them in the past. Yet the team who were the opposition of Motherwell had to play the following week and even the hardiest of of people must have been affected by seeing a fellow pro collapse on the field -made no sense to me at the time.
Sorry been waiting years to get that one off my chest.

I agree and think too many unenforced changes have been our downfall, players need consistency to build form and not many have had that opportunity

In our recent history we seem to have a track record of signing players with long term medical issues that either never achieve the heights expected or are out injured for long periods of their contract costing the club money. Are there plans to improve the medical testing pre signing players and the treatment of players so they are able to return on schedule.
Our whole club has been built on bringing through youth players to the First team yet with our drop down to the Championship there has been few players who have been able to make the step up to the first team. What are the short, medium and long term plans to bring our youth structure back up to the levels we have been used to?

Loemba seems like a luxury player for me, can have a game but will only play well in 1 out of 4 games - although after last night I don't see how he could have been any worse than King or Curran

It all depends on the owners and what their plans are. They must know what they are buying and have a plan to grow or generate more revenue or else why would you buy.
If it goes through (we've been here before) I hope they are committed and good for us in the long term to take us back to where we all want to be.
As for MM, all companies when they buy want to put there own chairman in so it's not a surprise and won't be to him either.
Dundee United » January transfer window » 27/11/2018 11:02 pm |
Increasing find signings in January dubious, been racking my brains trying to think any that have been great for us and i reckon some have caused disruption to the squad - although someone will no doubt prove me wrong.
I agree we need players but now more than ever they need to be the right player!

Whilst we should have gotten rid of Lazlo after Falkirk debacle and at worst at the end of last season, we are here now. I like the fact that MM wants to give a manager time - just he picked the wrong one to back.
Neilson seems a good fit, experience of getting out of this league against better opposition, knows the club at least a little, knows the fans expectation, is generally respected and has failed once (which is a good thing).
It's football though and its a results business - knowing what we know it might be a hard task. We just need to see improvements on the pitch and generally not getting cuffed by more than 2/3 goals off anyone.
I agree and one aspect i like of him at Hearts was putting younger players in the team if he felt they were good enough. I know that was partly due to circumstances but a lot of our 'senior pros' could do with being dropped so hope he has the determination to deliver for us.
Dundee United » Who do you want to replace László? » 08/10/2018 12:54 pm |
if we can't offer more than a team in our league Financially and in terms of potential then we have sunk further than I thought!
Dundee United » Levein comments on Souttar » 18/9/2018 1:12 pm |
Not sure what it is Levein is trying to achieve with this comment. The fact is he is a young player who will go through patches of form.
I agree our process of nurturing talent has went very wayward since McNamara and the selling off of any player we received an offer for by our then Chairman has not helped as other player were pushed into the breach.
But I also feel Souttar has to shoulder some of the blame, he wanted to be a midfielder and thought that was his best position and when the coaches etc. didn't agree he wanted to leave and maybe that has impacted his development as he should have been learning his trade at central defence - funny how he has only ever played there for Hearts!
Dundee United » Get Kenny Miller in » 20/8/2018 1:59 pm |
this quote for me says it all about how he views himself and Livingston:"I always wanted to get into management and it was always going to be that next step for me," he said."This came up a bit out of the blue. But I want to get to the top in the management game and you need to start somewhere."
On that basis I would stay well clear.

Dundee United » Sack Csaba now or give him more time » 05/8/2018 9:36 pm |
No one of the knee jerk reaction brigade but we need answers from the club.
Last year the poor performances were down to Csaba not having his players in the team, he's made a lot of signings brought a lot of players in, his players. I could see the point of using the league cup games as a pre-season, don't agree with it as winning breeds confidence, but understand the approach.
So yesterday and our first league game at home and we get beaten by a team that hasn't beat us for ages, we collapse and concede 3 goals. Our tactics are terrible and no different from when ray was in charge, everyone has worked them out and they clearly don't work when the teams we play against just sit in behind the ball and we can't break them down.
For me the performances are so poor very disorganised and utterly gutless!!
The board have to be sitting Csaba down and asking a couple of fundamental questions:
1. what is your overall game plan and strategy for the team and sqaud
2. When the f@ck is it going to start working and we see the results
If not satisfied with the plan and timeline - Csaba has to go
Dundee United » Togetherness » 23/7/2018 10:38 am |
They all look a wee bit embarrassed that they have drawn with Alloa and now are in a penalty shoot out!!
Dundee United » Utd v Alloa ~ Sat 21/7/18 (3pm) » 22/7/2018 7:19 pm |
Why would they work now they have not worked for the last two seasons, everyone presses high and our tactics give every team time to get back and defend in two banks while we play it sideways.
Got to ask is it our tactics or our players that have cost us the promotion in the last two seasons!!!
Dundee United » Who would you want? » 22/7/2018 4:45 pm |
Tin hat on - surprised no on has mentioned Robbie Nielson yet, did well getting Hearts out of this league before delusions of grandeur in league 1, my view as good as the names mentioned.

1. We (hopefully) don't have the full squad in yet and might have more incoming players that make a difference.
2. We've had players missing so far.
3. We have 11 new players and we need time to gell (again) 😩🔫
4. We are going for super fitness for a better timing and start to the league campaign that has impacted on fresh legs, player availability and fatigue in the league cup.
4. We've had mair penalties against us than normally.
5. Cannae find a 5th.
?
5. He's treating the cup as pre season and him and his strength and conditioning coach are still brutalising the players in training which is carrying over into matches to get them used to playing fatigued.
not saying I agree with that, but is only reason i could excuse the massive drop off in the second half
