January transfer window

Just had a look at Neilson's signings (albeit for the whole year) he was in the Championship with Hearts.  Interesting reading.  Gomis and Buaben picked up - we knew they were good and Don Cowie.  Also the likes of Sow and Ozturk from relatively obscure continental clubs. Also Keatings... More interesting is that he dropped a lot of the signings when they got promotion.
He will have had a larger budget and flexibility at Hearts, but I am hoping that he can add in a couple of players of the quality of above to help out Fyvie in midfield.  His Hearts signings bode well in my opinion (albeit another manager conned by Keatings imo).

Re: January transfer window

I think it's already been said that there will be little movement in January and that we will be pretty much using the players we currently have at our disposal.

Oooooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaah!!

Re: January transfer window

I'm wondering if Hearts will do us a favour with a Ralston-type loanee in January.
We're well connected there with Neilson/Levein/Daly.
Hearts have a big, almost huge, squad & a couple of their promising youngsters aren't getting much of a game cos of their multitudinous summer signings.
The attraction for Hearts is we will be seen as a developing & winning team under a successful manager.

Re: January transfer window

have heard he wants a goalkeeper.

I’d rather we brought 1 or 2 in other positions.

Re: January transfer window

Right back, central midfielder and number 10 type for me. Another winger if Loemba and Smith get punted.

The goalie situation I'm not sure about. I don't think Seigrest is that bad and I'd offer Deniz a deal until the end of the season. Rakovan can go if that's the case.

Too much commotion

Re: January transfer window

On the possibility of keeping Safranko permanently, it was mentioned by Robbie Neilson at the Q&A a couple of weeks ago, the possibility of perhaps the fans clubbing in to help pay the fee, or even the using the money already in place with the foundation.

Would anyone else be in favour of doing this?

No.  Stupid comment from Neilson.  Does he think there's a Dundonian Ann Budge waiting in the wings?

All a bit worrying.  Perhaps we could no bother doing up the place across the road and just make sure that we go up....!

Re: January transfer window

The area that need strengthen are a right back, left back, center midfield and another striker.

There's a good few the can leave as currently Neilson only has about 14/15 to pick from and we need to get some out the club to get others in.

Neilson has been very clever with his words in my opinion and time will tell if he doesn't make wholesale changes in January but I wouldn't be surprised if we see 4 or 5 head out the door.

Not sure why we need another striker tbh, we are more often than not playing with one up front

Who else plays up there if he gets injured or once he gets suspended? One other wee thing I hope to God that come the End of January he's still with us as the guy is class.

Re: January transfer window

Increasing find signings in January dubious, been racking my brains trying to think any that have been great for us and i reckon some have caused disruption to the squad - although someone will no doubt prove me wrong.

I agree we need players but now more than ever they need to be the right player!

If the Foundation were to fund a players wages/transfer that would be me done with it, for me that could set a precedent that wouldn't sit well with me, I've stuck £25 a month in from it's inception but that would be me finished.

Completely agree.  Clubs still a financial mess and imo foundation money atm should only be used if absolutely necessary to survive.  Putting the money in to fund keeping 1 player for 5 more months or to pay a transfer fee doesn’t make any sense at all.  Tbh Utd should never be paying a transfer fee again, we’re not in that game anymore, just like virtually the whole of Scottish football.

Fair enough on the first point, though on the last part, and us never spending money on transfers again, if we make it back to the Premier League, every team, from what I understand, is going to be about £1m a year better off, from 2020.

That gives teams up here a bit of scope to shell out on players, at the very least, we might be able to compete with teams from the English third and fourth tiers for players again.

Re: January transfer window

Signings for January-
RB- Not sure, could we go for Ralston again or perhaps RN has his eye on another player?
CM- Aberdeen have told Tansey he is free to find a new club in January. Would take him in a heart beat. Good player, experienced also.
Winger- Daniel Armstrong from Raith- out of contract in January, has been scoring goals, beats defenders, good delivery. Real prospect,
Striker- Blair Henderson from Edinburgh City- young talented striker, scoring goals for fun in the lower leagues. Wouldn't cost too much to tempt away from Edinburgh City.

Neilson never mentioned that at all. A punter in the crowd suggested it would be a good idea and said he personally (the punter) would be willing to put money in to fund a Safranko deal. Neilson was a bit taken aback I think and simply reinforced that he's a good player, a good trainer with bags of energy and had taken a pay cut to come to us but he belongs to another team and he has no idea what it would cost to bring him here permanently.

Re: January transfer window

Think he'll go with quality over quantity, in fact think he already said that iirc. Minimum disruption.  Maybe 3/4 away if we have interest and maybe as few as 2 in. Players in that will play regular next season if we go up. One has to be a creative mid to give us options and cover for Fyvie.

Glad to hear that it wasn't a Neilson suggestion!  It was letting me doubt him, which I hadn't up until then.  I prefer this reporting of the discussion!
