Re: Rumour mill

Just rumours: the folk exist and they are involved in sports management, but not football, in the States.

I'll believe it when I see it!

Today's Scottish Daily Mail saying a Dundee United takeover is now days away, with Mike Martin relinquishing BOTH his ownership and Chairmanship.

Re: Rumour mill

Not really in the know about this but what's the feeling on this? Good? Bad? Indifferent? The Americans at Dens don't seem to be doing anything of note other than run them into the championship.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Rumour mill

I was told we’d paid back Borthwick. Was also told we’d ‘bought out Cath’ but I didn’t know she had many shares for that to be significant.

Of course any major changes comes with risk. Let’s hope it’s another step towards the regeneration of a club that looked on its arse.

Re: Rumour mill

I was hoping that if this was happening that Borthwick was going to be involved as at least he has an emotional connection to the club.  Guess we just have to wait and see what happens and who is involved, could be the best thing that has happened to the club since Wee Jim or it could be monorail stuff similar to what is going on over the road at the Trolley Dome.

Hopefully give enough funds to get Safranko if he wants to stay. I'd also like to see MM kept at the helm as I think he has steadied the ship since being appointed chairman.

Re: Rumour mill

Got to be honest and say I'm not too excited by this, but will give any new owners respect and a chance to win me over.

It's down to bigotry on my part, as I distrust Americans, but to an extent it would be the same if Russians or Chinese were interested. I'd wonder 'why'? What is in it for foreign investors? They have no emotional attachment to United, and would be unlikely to make money. So what is the purpose of getting involved in the risky and probably bent sport of Scottish football?

Added to a portfolio of clubs owned allegedly.

Agree with your sentiments here Pat, maybe a tie up with US sports teams and obviously naming/advert rights and merch rights, not that this would make them a fortune but would get their brand (if they have one) noticed, as a lot of owners cover their grounds in their own brand exclusively.

I'm just praying it's got fuck all to do with chancer's over the road.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but why?  I get the impression that you are quite closely connected to the club so maybe you have an idea why this would be a bad thing.  I'm only asking out of curiosity.

My impression is that he has definitely steadied the ship and has made a few good decisions - it did take too long to punt Laszlo, but I understood his reasons he had for giving CL time.  I get the impression that a lot of folk are anti-Martin due to his association with Tamsin, but I understand that their relationship wasn't as buddy-buddy as we have been led to believe.

Re: Rumour mill

It all depends on the owners and what their plans are.  They must know what they are buying and have a plan to grow or generate more revenue or else why would you buy.

If it goes through (we've been here before) I hope they are committed and good for us in the long term to take us back to where we all want to be.

As for MM, all companies when they buy want to put there own chairman in so it's not a surprise and won't be to him either.

I just don't like him. Whatever anyone says he was part of this Aussie thing and imo thompson and him took their eyes off the ball. They saw a chance to make money for themselves(theyre businessmen so entitled to) but it led to our downfall. I also think martins only interested in making money out of united. Not my cup of tea and I'm sure I'm not his either .

Re: Rumour mill

Speaking of relationships, Martin & Thomson, & how close or not they were.
Laurie Ellis has been in three relationships, McKinnon, Lazslo & Neilson and one wonders his feelings. Must have been devastated when McKinnon went, open-minded when Lazslo arrived but soon to be distraught once surveyed his workings, ecstatic when Lazslo departed & now must be turning cartwheels on his way into work each day.
Bit of turmoil for him being the common denominator there in our last 30 months but must praise his resilience & perhaps his good fortune at always being kept on.
