Forgot. The bit of skill from Middleton where he skinned 3 of them looked GMSesque. Opposite end of pitch from me - was it as good as I thought?

Very clearly trying to pin the blame on United fans for the boy Mckenzie being injured until Michael Stewart pointed out the chair had been thrown from the Aberdeen end. Then STILL tried to blame United for goading Aberdeen fans into doing it.
Might have been a decent player but a slavering mess of a pundit. Kudos to Michael Stewart for sticking to his guns on it after even more excuses from Miller.
Agree. Stewart spoke well. His clear point - pitch invasions are about uncontrolled emotion which is natural. It should have been about celebrating and the United fans goading the Aberdeen fans are idiots, but it doesn’t even begin to condone what happened next.
2 points I have. The goading is not much different to what happened all match. Especially in the corner of shed and ET where the fans are separated by a few meters. The goading was constant all match from both sides. That is part of what I love about Scottish football. The rivalry.
Second - if this was a one off I would have much more sympathy for the goading excuse. But this is the 3rd time in a year the Aberdeen fans have done the same thing and they weren’t goaded previously. They obviously think it is acceptable behaviour. The Police have done nothing about it and for me a lot of blame should be on them as well. No doubt United will get a bit of punishment here as well because the SFA is weak. Based on the repeated nature and the seriousness of yesterday I would be for Aberdeen fans being banned from all away games for a round of fixtures next season. I know that will never happen. In fact probably very little will.

Aberdeen is my favourite fixture. Atmosphere is brilliant. In the shed yesterday again and it makes so much difference to the team I think.
Thought we were poor most of the match. Especially first 35 mins.
Watched Babunski close first half when he was right in front of me. He took up so many good positions outside the box to link the play and could see who frustrated he was at the constant punts and pointless cross field diagonals to the opposite wing. No point playing him at all if that is how Jim wants us to play.
Wing backs - the contrast was worrying. Most of the threat aberdeen had all day came down Strain’s side. They got almost nothing down our left. It looked like a noticeable tactic that Strain was tucking in next the centre backs and often leaving Trap 2 on 1. Can’t understand the logic if that was tactical.
Based on end of season I think we offer Doc an extension. He leads and organises the team. Links the play. Is good ant breaking up opposition attacks And is experienced. We are losing a lot of experience.
Why can neither of our keepers kick the ball? Few really good saves yesterday. Especially the point blank header at 2-1.
Delighted with the season overall. Can’t wait for Europe and would be amazing to win a tie.

Agree. But especially second half aberdeen were just hoofing balls into the box which made it easier for him. Would love it if him and Graham were good enough next season to form our defence.

With how bad we have been I just can’t believe a win V aberdeen should get us 4th. They have been just as bad as us. We could do it.

Have been told Danny Armstrong is going to sign with us.
I'd be delighted with that. Better than every winger we have at the club.
He's went a bit stale at Kilmarnock and needs a fresh challenge. Very good player imo.
He has gone off the boil at Killie, but he is exactly the type of player our current team needs. Whether our team next season will, who knows. Hopefully Goodwin. If Dalby were to stay (assuming highly unlikely) then Armstrong would be a perfect runner off him and supplier of balls in.
I'd be trying to bring in the young lad (Watson?) who scored two against us at Rugby Park before McInnes takes him with him to Tynecastle. Probably out of our price bracket though assuming he's still in contract.
Kind of players I hope we are after. Even if we don’t get them. Show ambition. A mix of a few decent players from our smaller rivals, few young players from lower leagues with promise, a fast forward from down south like St Mirren, Motherwell, St Johnstone and Ross county have all proven recently are in abundance, and a few foreigners looking at us for a 2 year stint that Jim has been very good at getting in the past.

Play ugly. It is what has served so well this year.
Won’t be easy. Hibs are decent.
Agree about 3 at the back but does two of them need to be Gallagher and Graham to release Svelj into midfield?
Is Graham fit?
Nope, still injured.
Got two centre half ( one of them not 100%) and a young laddie.
Wishful thinking then. Do we not have Gallagher, Harding and Mani? We just haven’t been very solid at all playing 4 at the back this season.

Had also forgotten that one. Major plus and major wage if rumours are true. We could well get 2 or 3 decent players for his wage.

Every other club slashing away ticket allocations, hopefully our club remembers to do the same.
I actually hope not. It's a race to the bottom and does no-one any favours as it just means less and less people can follow their team (as per our trips to Tynecastle and to a lesser extent Ibrox). Scottish football thrives with big, loud, away supports.
There is of course a balance - there is no reason to give Aberdeen 5000 tickets if the demand is there for home fans. But there should still be a decent amount for every team at every stadium.
I'd rather the club vociferously spoke out for having a guaranteed allocation for every game.
This is a point the SFA need to deal with. Part of what makes Scottish football great is the interaction between the fans at the game. It is also giving the bigger clubs even more of an advantage by mimimising the away crowds. I would say the rule should be every club has to offer something like a minimum of 10% of capacity for away fans and each away club can decide what they ask for.
However, while these rules aren’t in place, we should absolutely limit hearts/hibs/aberdeen to the shed or fair play and encourage our fans to show we can fill the gap. Something we have proved they will do this season.

Hopefully United hold back the Fair play and Jerry Kerr for our fans to buy a block at a time.
Assuming the game still has importance, of course.
We get 1700 in that shitehole of a corner. They get 1900 behind a goal. Get to fuck with that United.
If they can’t behave, give them nothing. It's more a Police decision from what I hear, not a United one.
It's still very annoying that they are essentially being rewarded for scum behaviour.
When we are forced to pay for the police to be there why are we not telling them to just do their job, focus on that section close to Godwin, and drag people out that are seen throwing things?

I know folk have said Saturday wasn’t his best game, but when Docherty plays he changes the whole team. He must be a very good leader. If you just look at the the stats, can anyone remember one player having that much influence on our results? Maybe Robson is his last 2 seasons?
Birighitti had a massive influence on our results......
Indeed.

Agree. Been a great signing for United. Mostly played out of position. Great attitude.
No danger he is getting close to being the new TAA. Even guys like O’Riley struggle with the jump to the premiership.
Would take him back all day long, but would guess he will get a championship team on 5x the money we can offer.
Dundee United » United vs St.Johnstone - Saturday 12th April » 09/4/2025 8:11 am |
Seems clear we are a better team whenever we keep it tight and hit teams on the break. Not what I want us to do, but it gets us results.
So I would go similar to last 2 games. And similar subs to Tynecastle after an hr. If the game is tight. Maybe Luca at right back instead of Strain?
And absolutely press St Johnstone high up the pitch for the full 90 mins. They lose a goal a game from pissing about at the back.
Dundee United » Ross Docherty » 03/4/2025 3:10 pm |
Bin for me. One of the most important players at the club but can’t stay fit.
Agree totally with Pawlett comparison. Another player I really liked who made us a better team whenever he played…5 times a season….
If he plays most of the games till end of season then maybe a 1 year extension.
As I said on another thread, this is one of the positions I think we are quite good at producing in Scotland and I would rather we find a younger, fitter version in the lower leagues.

Wasn’t there. Watched highlights. Looks like we dominated at a difficult venue. Sure bbc said we had 20 shots to their 5, so deserved win even if game was poor.
Docherty is our captain for a reason. Ever since he joined the stats with him in the team and out have been clear. I really like him as a player and a leader. After 2 full seasons of playing a few games and then being out for a month I think it is time to move on. Maybe a pay as you play deal if he can stay fit until end of the season? Anyway, that type of player I think is one Scotland are actually quite good at producing and I would hope we could find a younger, fitter version of him in the lower leagues. Won’t be easy.
Almost confirmed as top 6. In first season up that is good. Get the criticisms about style, but don’t really understand what anyone would realistically expect from Goodwin more than comfortable promotion in first season and top 6 in first season back in top league. For me doing fine.

They all look like poor signings is the problem. Goodwin has a good record in summer transfer windows. Like just about every other manager, not so much January.
I don’t think it was his decision to sell Holt. But has been his decision to ditch Babunski for no apparent reason. I haven’t even seen a rumour about attitude. I don’t think he was even close to being as bad as some make out. The facts are pretty clear. He was subbed at half time V aberdeen at home when I thought he played well. We won that game. He hasn’t really played again. Our complete loss of form coincides almost perfectly with this. Not saying that is the only reason, but do think it’s part of it.Goodwin was quoted two days ago praising Babunski's attitude, saying he 'sets the standards' at training etc.
His omission is just all the more bizarre.
When Campbell is getting starts in midfield after these terrible performances ahead of Babunski either we're not getting told the truth or there's something wrong with our manager. It's either one or the other.
All football fans and forums come up with rumours. Like Doc on the booze or butcher being a shagger. I haven’t seen any about Babunski except that he has never stayed at one club long and this hints at an attitude problem. Maybe.
I am generally pretty pro Goodwin, but given the lack of rumours and what TEK has noted above, it does suggest Goodwin believes Campbell and Fiorini are bringing more to the team than Babunski some how.

Ferry got skinned for one of the goals and just gives up running.
Var worked! Good for the league getting it right for once.
Adeboyega should never have put his hands on murray - we all know what hes like. Any excuse to fall down
At the 4th, it's a pointless push. He is going wide and Walton has a chance to save.
For me. The difference for me is we need our players to be more like Goodwin was as a player. They were all very nice whereas dundee were tugging holding down. Elbowing and being generally dirty bastards. I hate to say it but we need somebody like murray to orchestrate the chuntyness.
Generally Murray ripped us apart all game. Wish we had got him in the summer. Exactly the kind of stricken we need.
I would doubt we could have come up with the transfer fee.
Maybe if we had saved the money from Jort 😁

Everyone was just shite. But special mention to: Walton - not just flogging the goal, couple of pathetic flaps from shots he punched right back into the middle of the goal. They scored from one that got VAR’d. Biggest problem was staying on his line at all costs for every cross and long ball. This created some of the problems for our defence.
Campbell. Is not fit and in a team playing utter pish yesterday he still looked like one of us had been given a strip and asked to play professional football.
Manny - has to be the worst of the lot. Got about 20 mins. Managed to get booked, get a straight red give away a pen and had another 50/50 pen where he half pushed the boy right in front of me in the shed and I was convinced was going to VAR.
Don’t blame Goodwin for how shite the players were or selling holt as I doubt it was his decision. But his transfer window was terrible and he keeps playing those players.
Dundee United » Dundee United vs Dundee - Sunday 16th March (3PM) » 15/3/2025 8:33 am |
Given the way things are going I would actually make Dundee favourites for bottom spot just now. Their weakest area is defence - they ship a lot of goals.
So I would be going 433. Sibbald, Sev, Babunski in the middle. Trap, Dalby, Middleton up top. Whatever defence we can cobble together. Really go at them from the start.
