Can see Goodwin going with this. Only debatable one is wide right. It’ll be Kai, or if he’s brave, Forbes

Did anyone else see a tweet from some united fans account naming the loan RWB as Cameron Zekou. French U21 at Guingamp B.
I can’t find it now but saw him post a cryptic message on Tuesday saying a signing was imminent then yesterday, named this guy

From-age 10, he’s looked a player [I’ll get my coat]

Tony Watt is reportedly one of, if not our highest earner.
The rumours of us willing to let him go for free are clearly to get his wage off the books and reinvest it elsewhere in the squad. Folks questioning why we’re not demanding a fee cos he’s under contract for another 2 years are clearly forgetting about this. We don’t hold the aces with this one.
Not a great situation but I fully understand it from the clubs perspective. Yes we could keep him on for all the backup reasons others have mentioned but is that really value for money? No

Replaced by who though? Liam smith is still injured according to Tam.Neilson - Quicker and better on the ball
I think the one thing we can all agree on is that this hasn’t aged well. Tam’s system is so reliant on the full backs. Never want to see another CB at FB again
Dundee United » Who was the best headerer of a ball you've seen? » 25/10/2021 10:11 am |
Big Dunc or Jason De Vos
De Vos won everything in the air 💪🏻
Dundee United » McNulty » 07/10/2021 4:28 am |
McNulty is no world beater but a quick reminder for all those writing him off - he hadn’t had a pre-season so despite missing the 1 on 1 v St. Mirren and other good chances since coming back, he’s been flung straight in to 4 games.
Thought he worked his arse off in those games too. Hopefully his injury isn’t as bad as feared and we can have him back playing (for the first time in his united career) in his preferred position with another striker that suits his game.

Wish it is but he’s only got 1 yr left on his contract so it’ll be the reported £350k ish.
Sadly this is the true value he’ll command in this situation. Nothing the club can do. He’s only a £2m+ player if he’s under contract for 3+ years
Know this point won’t be well received but it’s the reality.

Did we bid for Kevin Nisbet?
Yes.
We tabled a £250,000 bid on June 16th.
It was quarter of a million pounds upfront with future add-ons.
Fine but 6 days later, our Management team disintegrated and we were dragged through the courts by Hearts. Paul and his mate did an amazing job with the walk fundraiser but who knows what the final legal bill ran to.

I don't comment on every thread, gave that up years ago. But is anyone surprised by the lack of transfer movement? The economic climate has changed in football, we have lost income streams so far this season without away fans etc.. Had a long period without no income (lockdown), we are a business at the end of the day. Our owner has other business interests, not just us.
I do wonder if we had hoped a bid would have came in for Shankland to relive the pressure on the finances, but looks like his recurring ankle injury has come back, which is a worry.
100% agree UniDundee. Do I want signings to add quality to this squad? Absolutely! Am I surprised we haven’t? Not really. The Ogrens have backed us well to this point but their income stream will have been hit like the rest of us.
Is Mellon choosing to say he is focused on developing our youth rather than strengthening? I very much suspect no but I respect him for towing the company line and not being seen to be being stroppy about the situation.
The EFL is all over the shop with Covid and this new salary cap in the lower leagues so we will have to be patient to get targets from there.
This season is completely different to anything any club has experienced before. I find it bewildering that some fans still think we should be charging out there and spending magic beans on boys who haven’t been told if they are in their current teams plans (cos they’re not fully back training yet).
This season is shaping up to be one that we just knuckle down, Accept where we are, grind out results and aim for survival +.
Harsh reality - one many fans can’t seem to grasp 🤷🏼♂️

Think you’ve nailed it Pat. I remember after the event reading up on him and thinking what a signing he would have been. Had had a great career in France. All we knew at the time was he was a French Trialist - pre. Twitter etc. was a secretive time
Cheers
Dundee United » Late 90’s - French CM Trialist » 18/8/2020 8:18 am |
Morning gents
Question - can any of you remember us having a French Centre Mid trialist play for us in a preseason friendly around the mid/late 90’s?
I seem to remember the game was against an EPL club and the boy who was 30yrs+ ran the show. He got subbed off late on to a standing ovation but never ended up signing a deal, rumoured because his wife wanted to stay in France.
I’ve got the name Alain Roche in my head but can’t find any details of a connection with him to us online.
Anyone else remember this boy and can confirm who he was?

Don't think MM is scared to chuck the youngsters in. Freeman may get the nod in place of Smith. I'm assuming he has a bit of pace too?
My mates son played for Celtic and played with Freeman at Scotland U17s. He says Freeman was a standout across his age group. Got his move to Soton that didn’t work out but if he can stay fit, reckons he’ll go all the way.
If Mickey thinks he’s ready, would be great for him to get some game time.

The foam from Dundee fans would be good but it’s a no from me (if there’s even any truth in the rumour).
V good footballer but as his a career has proved, he’s only effective if you play to his strengths = play him central as a proper striker. He won’t get that with us as Shankland is the main man. He’s no pace to play out wide (Aberdeen tried that and mcinnes was made to look foolish). He’s too similar to Clark so why waste a big wage on an area we don’t need to plug.
Pacey wide man with a proven end product or a dominant CB for me plz

What’s with the panic re. signings?
1 - Mellon’s been in the door a week
2 - were still in the middle of a pandemic so trialists aren’t happening
3 - he has yet to get his management team in place
I’d be more worried if signings WERE being made as there’s little doubt they wouldn’t be fully vetted by the new manager.
Stick with the current squad. Get them fit and ready. Add quality if/when the opportunity arises
Panic signings at this stage = more Loemba’s, Barton’s etc 🥴
The panic for me is the season starts a 2 weeks on Saturday, we have 2 fit centre halves who are prone to the odd injury, do we have any wingers apart from a striker who could player there and boy who has played left back his whole career? For me it’s a massive worry, I understand mellon has just came in the door but for me these issues are huge, we must get off to a good start
In any ordinary season I’d agree with you but this year is unprecedented. There will be some teams you don’t expect that will make bad starts this season just down to the disruption.
There will be some great players still unclear on their contract situation with their current clubs that will become available which we would ordinarily have no chance of signing. It’s these types I’m more hoping we land. All about staying patient.

Am I the only one that is not bothered by today’s silence?
Remember, the Hearts Court of Session case is tomorrow afternoon. Surely United (and McClaren for that matter) will be waiting for the verdict to be sure we don’t get screwed over and lose our promotion to the Prem.

Little doubt this pandemic will be hurting us badly financially but there can be little doubt, the Rangers must be on the cusp of administration. Won’t bore you with my rationale as we’re here to talk United but I’m almost certain it’s a formality.

Sow? Not for me.
Louis? Just a kid and early into his development to expect him to lead the line on his own.
Wee reminder we aint over the line yet and have achieved nothing.
I hope Utd don't just want to do enough to 'get by'.
I want us to continue to blitz this league and win it in style.
Always love a signing but would be quite happy if we don’t sign anyone in this window. We have enough to see out this amazingly strong position, even if a big offer is accepted for Shankland. The management team are already planning for the top flight with Stanton, Wardrop etc moving on. Boys available in Jan aren’t always the kind of signings you build your team around.
They’ll be planning correctly for the summer and looking at proper summer signings once our 2020/21 league is known.
Not had this much faith in a collective management team in a long while
Dundee United » Azone » 08/12/2019 7:20 am |
Anyone else suffer the new commentary team on Arabzone yesterday?
Totally honking. I love my team and am paying for an overseas subscription service from the club so can suffer a bit of overly biased commentary. That pair yesterday were just slavering nonsense though. Not a clue about football.
Always though Scott Simpson was a good main commentator. Hoping he just has a week off.
How hard would it be for the club to ask one of the Academy coaches who’re not involved in the match day to take a turn, even as the co commentator. Actually give some proper observations on what’s going on.
Such a shame as the new regime have moved forward soooo many other aspects of the club.
