Going to put it out there that I think this 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 is completely stifling us and doesn't suit the team selection. Particularly with this latest trend of sticking Miller Thomson, a winger, in at full back.

For me, we should be playing 352 with Gallagher, Holt, Graham at the back. This would allow us to stick a partner up front with Moult, probably Grieve as I think Watt is better playing as a ten, and creates a different dynamic by still having numbers in midfield.

Mcmann has been fine this year, but his delivery is awful, Grimshaw runs like he's towing another Grimshaw behind him. Going forward we are far, far too predictable due to the lack of quality coming from the fullbacks in the attacking areas. Mark our wingers well, and you don't need to worry so much as the single forward player has no one to flick on the long balls that are caused by this.

Not to worry, the 4231 tombola will be back in full flow next week.

It was 4-4-2  yesterday until 75 mins

If it was, then it sure fooled me. Makes no difference to be fair, the point about the threat from wide men being nullified making us toothless remains the same if we continue to play 4 at the back.

Also people need to remember the rules don't just apply to the top leagues.  They'll soon have no referees if there isn't some level of respect won back for refs at the grass roots levels.  Having witnessed the level of intimidation of refs at youth level (watching my son play) there is no way I'd give up my time for football reffing and I umpired at hockey for years and the difference is massive.  Not to say I think blue cards are the solution, but there is a massive problem that definitely needs to be resolved.  Sorting out player behaviour in the top leagues has to be a start...

I agree with this but the solution needs to be an agreement from those in charge of the game, in this country and globally, to back refs who deal out straight red cards for abuse of officials.

Sin bin is nonsense for me, you'll learn your lesson from a sending off and a 3 match ban using the laws as they exist currently. Telling referees to explicity use these laws and then backing them when they do so is a better solution than continued alterations to the game.

None of the above for me:

Back to 16 man squads.

3 subs a match.

Get rid of VAR: If it needs kept then only for fouls that occur two players, or two touches, before the ball ends up in the net.

Keep goal line technology.

Finally, ban cunts that keep trying to add new laws to the game. This is not the NFL.

Going back to the points raised/made at the Foundation meeting.

Is it just me that's happy we don't have a recruitment section?

Loads of folk effectively playing football manager, sourcing targets.

I know the game has moved on, but any manager worth their salt should have a grasp on what players could do a job from them, they must have a constantly evolving list of targets.

By all means scout a recommendation, but some of the shite that's passed through the doors in the last 7-8 years, no cunt went to watch

Zwick, Riski, Niskanen, Lyng, Jordie Briels, Christopher Rabbitsch, Idris Kadded, Yannick Loemba, Adam Barton, Matej Rakovan, Florent Hoti,

Someone pulled those jokers off a database.

To reply to this and CCx2:

I sort of have mixed feelings about this. I have met two of United's recruitment team/scouts in the last 10 years or so. One at the tail end of the Stephen Thompson era, and another just before covid.

I'm not going to claim that I have some inate knowledge of football beyond the usual punter but I did not think highly of either of them. One in particularly was thick as shit.

For the wages we likely offer, I don't think for a second you're going to get many high quality, world class, footballing people. In the Asghar era in particular we seemed to attract folk who had read Soccernomics and Moneyball during their degree and fancied themselves as above the average punter (one episode on twitter where ane of them basically said this springs to mind).

We should have a great recruitment system, however, I've more faith, thus far, in Goodwin and his contacts than some of the tools we've hired in recent years.

He wouldn't be my first choice moving in to the premiership if we were to be promoted but I'll be glad to have Murray back if the rumours are true.

A forward that can make runs in behind is needed. I also feel he gives us the option to play 2 up top which Watt and Moult do not, as they are both slower players that can't really play off each other.

Gallagher being out for a extended period makes me nervous though, I'm not a huge fan of Graham when he's not playing in a back 3. I missed all of the league cup games this season so didn't see a single minute of Denham, but if he's heading back to Cardiff then I'd be looking to loan in another CB, preferably one with some experience in being promoted in this league or elsewhere. No idea who though.

Wouldn't be massively arsed about Cudjoe moving on. Really expected him to kick on this year with moving down a level. Still young but never seems to influence the game enough for me, picks the wrong option way too often. Was there not a few rumours previously about his agent demanding an extremely generous contract for a player who's not really done very much? If moving him on to get a proven player like Wotherspoon in is required then fine by me.

I reckon Moult will start, and if we’re 2 up at half time then he’s hooked off for Cudjoe or the like and Watt goes up top

Definitely believe we need reinforcements but I'm not fussed about the lack of rumours. Goodwin & the club in general have been very tight lipped this season and generally signings like Moult, Gallagher and Walton only really got rumoured a matter of hours before they were standing with the Scarf over the head.

Makes a change from reading the weekly Asghar bullshit via Scott Burns that never came to fruition!

Understandable donating to the 2016 campaign, but when someone has spent 4 years confirming they are an ignorant, racist, corrupt, hate-motivated, narcissistic arsehole, it showed very poor judgement (IMO) to publicly support the twat again. A lot of folk were happy to accept Ogren's money and overlook his politics, and told me in no uncertain terms. But it had little to do with his politics - bad judgement is bad judgement, and it raised a lot of red flags for me.

Can remember if it was Twitter or a fans message board where I raised the fact he was supporting the lunatic bastard Trump and was given grief for it,

Now, I get America is a two party system, you're either for or against, but when that oompa loompa, arsehole cunt is your poster boy, then things are fucked up.

I notice he's also sold his St Andrews Golf investment and he also had a partner there, who appeared to go off piste.

To be as rich as he apparently, you can't be thick, but you can be overly trusting as we've seen to our cost.

He genuinely seems a nice guy, I think he's developed a feeling for the club, but as posted above, you can't simply just latch on and be one of the guys, I firmly believe, as we see in many clubs, where American owners take over, they simply don't get it.

I'd love for a couple of proper United supporting guys to be in charge, but...........

We as fans really would have to temper what we think is acceptable/realistic, If we're paying the 6th best wages, getting good crowds etc then pushing for top 6, maybe top 4, good cup runs is what we should expect.

But you'll get seasons, like last where most folk based on initial signings thought we'd be ok, we'd be up there and it all goes wrong, we can't just expect guys to throw millions away on us, when there's almost absolutely ze

Hopefully not. Definitely a game to see who's going to blink first on that one though.

He'll be wanting his contract paid in full, or close to, and we'll be offering a lower payout or training with the under 21's where he can see out his contract in a foreign country while docking his wages if he's doesn't show for thon training. Hope the club stand their ground, even if it is a rather nasty side to football. Business is business at the end of the day.

Agree with all of your points Tek. Reminded me of the game vs ICT when Shankland scored 4 at Tannadice and sent Coll Donaldson to the stalls: A real marker down for the season.

On your point about youth players, hard to disagree. I felt I'd seen enough of Macleod last year to know he had something about him, not entirely sure he is a Centre forward though.

Our academy seems to have an alarming habit of producing these players who are technically decent but all seem to play somewhere in the "3" behind a central striker with varying levels of succesa:

Glass,Macleod, Chalmers, Thomson, Meekison, Mochrie.

Going further back: Fraser, Dow, Scott Banks, Brad Smith, Matty Smith, Appere.

Very pedestrian tonight and lucky to get away with a win in the end. Another clean sheet though to be fair.

Assuming Moult was rested due to plastic pitch potentially flaring up injuries. With this said, if he misses any games for us this season then we are likely to be in big trouble, don't look for a second like scoring.

Bowman can fuck off with that "hud me back" pish in that video btw. Has bounced around the club for years in numerous coaching positions and his association with coaching the first team usually coincides with the team being mediocre at best, shite at worst.

Must make a great cup of coffee at coaches meetings.

Should be interesting. I had some sympathy for him after the whole Raith Rovers move. I felt that the FM being actively involved in a bit of the hounding that followed him was very dodgy.

With this said, I would question why he's waited so long if he was convinced he was in the right.
