Paton runs around like he's got arthritis.
Moult has lost any pace he ever had.
What a easy ride for the SM CBs to see them two coming on.
Fotheringham is even worse he  should be thinking if I can't get on before them two maybe it's time for a change of career.
JVS will never score.
Trapanovski needs to go away and put on 5kg of muscle if he wants to play in Scotland.
Middleton is at best bone idle.
When Dalby has a poor game we are completely impotent.

I did spot one positive today.
The St mirren RB while chasing for the ball stepped in front of ( think) Trapanovski and collapsed.
McLean didn't give the usual standard free kick. Hopefully the start of a trend.
Should have booked him for diving though.

St Mirren looked bigger, stronger, more mobile, more aggressive, and more up for the fight . All the ingredients required to win games in Scottish football.

The reality is our squad is threadbare as there was no real money to build it.  We have one of the smallest squads in the league.  It was a poor display for the first half hour on Saturday, but the first goal was a fluke and the second a surprising error between Manny and Gallagher who have worked together well all season.  Both I think were playing on fumes and in that instance there was no Stephenson or Sevelj to cover them from midfield.  Bar that we actually played OK until they were able to bring on late subs who actually improved the team.  Gayle is a quality player - if he was in our squad he's have played 90 minutes every week, but Hibs have such a big squad that he can get 15 minutes most weeks just to help them close out games.

I think Holt going has screwed us.  It's pretty clear that Goodwin doesn't think Cleall-Harding is ready yet.  He got him to warm up when Manny was struggling but didn't put him on - opting for Campbell instead.  We needed to chase the game at that point so I was OK with putting on a non-defender, but once again Campbell did nothing much.

I would agree that for large parts of the match we did ok. I would also agree with JG comments that Hibs looked faster and sharper than UTD.
Gray was able to bring on Campbell for Hoilett around the hour mark this allowed them to shore up the midfield and effectively killed of our comeback.
JG has a lot of thinking to do around his ST Mirren lineup.

I think today it was more evident than ever that the season has caught up with our small squad.

Some look like they are playing through injury, and others look like they've ran their race and have nothing more to offer the club. Despite trying too.

Mark Ogren needs to open up the purse strings and give whoever is Manager next season a far more competitive budget that will give us a better chance to compete fairly with Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs. We haven't even played many Cup games this season. And have had many free weekends, imagine we had less of them and more games. I can't imagine what state the squad would look like, availability wise and fatigue wise. Throw some European games into the mix and we simply must have a squad with far more depth next season, and also with more quality at our disposal.

This squad has done great to win us the Championship and get us Top 6 (minimum) and our appreciation should be shown to most of these players, but it's also time for the stark reality that if we are to go on to the next level we need to gut the squad again, and in the Summer we need to try and really build a squad for the future, one with more longevity, players that might be our mainstays over the next 2/3 years, so we aren't needing yet another massive rebuild in the Summer of 2026.

It's time for our Championship players to move on -

Gallagher, Moult, Watt, Fotheringham, Thomson, Middleton and yes even Ross Docherty, sadly.

We need to move on the signings this season that clearly haven't worked -

Babunski, VDS, Odada, Meshack, Campbell, Fiorini, Paton

And there are several youngsters out of contract. Most of these will also be moved on i'd imagine, bar maybe Charlie Dewar, Scott Constable and maybe Ruairidh Adams.

It will be a big rebuild, and i'm personally quite happy we have a new Head of Recruitment. I think there have been too many failures this season. We need a better average than 50% being failures. This has been a squad

Gallagher was to blame for the first two goals today. Two down after 15mins and the game is almost gone.
Always disappointed to lose but watching that today it was clear that Hibs have a better squad of players than UTD. They will deservedly be 3rd but if JG holds onto 5th that has to been as a successful return to the top flight.

My take on Gallaghers omission was JG was trying to press Celtic when they had the ball in their own half to the point it was man for man at the back. JG clearly thought Gallagher didn't have the pace to play that way.
I thought it was working reasonably well until Idah came on and exposed Seveljs lack of physicality.
Individuals like Paton & Middleton either couldn't be arsed or didn't have the fitness for a game plan like that.
I would expect to see Gallagher back in a 5 man defence against Hibs.
You do calm down with age I can remember kicking doors ect after losing 3-0 to Hearts In 86 & Redfords winner at Hampden in 81 the pain wears off, eventually.

Dust settled on Saturday and wanted to share my thoughts, some of which might be a little controversial.

Firstly the football.  I have a bit of sympathy for Goodwin as he put out a team, I think with one view to the remaining 4 winnable matches, but also one to have a bit of a go at Celtic.  It worked well for the first 25 minutes.  However, Manny and Vicko at CH was never going to work for 90 minutes.  It was a mistake to bench Gallagher unless he knows something we don't.  I don't get the hate for Campbell.  He worked hard throughout his time on the pitch and achieved about the same as any other United player.  For me he had a much better game than Sibbald.  Ruari Paton seems like a good guy.  Not good enough at football though.  Dalby needs to fall over more.  vdS might have been our best player!  The referee had his hoops on under his shirt.  All that said, that was a team that nearly beat Bayern in the Allianz and if they play well, which they did, then they'll put 5 past most teams in Scotland.  Sad but true.

On to fans, firstly United.  For those that throw the towel in before kick off and those that left before half time, what do you expect?  It was clear before a ball was kicked what the United fans expected and that translates to the pitch.  If we want to keep Celtic fans out of Tannadice then we need to turn up.  If we all treat it as a dead rubber then of course the club will take the silver lining of the extra cash and so they should.  Remember some fans, on other boards right enough, were freely admitting they'd sold their tickets to Celtic fans.

I paid £40 for me and £25 for my lad.  OK for me, but that is pricing fans out of football.  So Celtic fans are entitled to make that point.  They need to make it to their own club too (which to be fair some think they are).  Chucking stuff on to the pitch to make the point however is unacceptable and defeats their point.  As for the 'fruit of their labour'

As for the club allowing Celtic fans into hospo in the GF. Seriously, get fucked Utd. Are we really that separate for cash?

.

A disgrace.

Giving them three stands of our stadium at £42 quid is one thing.

But, having a sizeable section of them in our home stand should never, ever happen.

The club mentality these days seems to be cash over morals. Over everything.

Dund££ Unit£d

It's further evidence that Celtic have outgrown Scottish football .
The club only see the day as a chance to make money.
It looked to me as about 20% of season ticket holders didn't go . Around 50 % of those who did go had left by half time.
And the players put up about 10mins resistance and then threw the towel in.

The morning after reflections:

Scottish football has to be the most uncompetitive league in the world. If you take the average gap between 1st & third in the 21C .

Celtics turnover is now 15× UTDs and increasing every year.

Their fans were quite subdued for a team winning the league, certainly compared to 2008 when the won it at Tannadice. Serial winners eventually become matter of fact.

The Celtic games are increasingly been seen as pointless by our fans. Despite this being one of our better seasons in recent memory that was the smallest home support ( by a distance) all season.

That's 40 years since a  ' provincial' club won the league when will the SFA maybe think that might not be good for the Scottish game?

My other half who knows absolutely nothing about football ( maybe she will be headhunted by the SFA VAR team) said to me what's the point in playing a game where you know what will happen before you start ?
I'm not sure I have an answer

Celtic won the league last year by winning 5-0 away to 4th place Kilmarnock.
Unfortunately its pointless saying he's shite , why was he not playing ect.
Celtic are so far ahead of United the result was completely inevitable.

Unfortunately like a few of our younger players he is too lightwieght for Scottish football.
It does show you that it's not easy for the favourites to get over the line in the Championship.

By far our best ( maybe only) chance of scoring against them is through long throws and set pieces.
Celtic are good at many things but I wouldn't agree that their defenders are good in the air.

The spotlight atm is around Gallagher, that's because his agent has gone to the media. Other players like Moult Middleton Docherty et -al will also have been told if there is an offer or not.
IMO Gallaghers agent has made his clients current situation  worse .

Remember Utd have said nothing on this matter.
Maybe Gallagher was offered a one year deal on reduced terms but told us to f**k off.

Massively surprised United have decided to put the Aberdeen fans behind Jim Goodwin again.

Good thing our fans are behind both goals, of course.

But, get the feeling they will just launch more projectiles at him.

wouldn't cost too much to put a net up behind the dugouts.

I know this is a radical idea in 21C Scotland but how about they punish the perpetrators rather than the victims.
A clear statement from Police Scotland anyone throwing a missile on to the pitch will serve a minimum of 30 days in prison.
More likely though is , well they've had a tough upbringing, a numbers of Adverse childhood experiences, their behaviour is a form of communication their brain is not fully developed yet and finally getting round to blaming United for not meeting their needs.

I think UTD have got this bang on.
£40 is not far off what they charge away.fans. + £10 for home fans is a bonus as we will have to put up with an afternoon of sectarian singing, the waving of flags of a number of foreign countries + the usual ( allegedly banned) use of pyros.

I know folk have said Saturday wasn’t his best game, but when Docherty plays he changes the whole team. He must be a very good leader. If you just look at the the stats,  can anyone remember one player having that much influence on our results? Maybe Robson is his last 2 seasons?

Birighitti had a massive influence on our results......

Let's not forget Richard Odada.

06/04 Played 84 minutes of OFK's 3-1 defeat away to Red Star in the Belgrade derby.

12/04 Richard paid a price for that poor performance and was back as an unused sub in a 3-0 win over Radnicki.

It seems none of our first team loanees (Thompson, Meshack and Odada) are getting much in the way of action.

Hopefully we can get rid of all 3 in the summer, they've shown their not up to the job.

That will do for me.

Two starts, two clean sheets.

Good start for the lad.

That said, i still hope Ross Graham is available Post-Split for these harder matches.

I would agree that hopefully Graham is back for the last 5 games, as it stands he is the better option.  But it looks to me that Sam is a better player at 19 than Ross was.
