you wonder how much might be down to agents advising players they can get the more somewhere else, along similar lines to Zander Clark last season.  Perhaps we have made some offers and they have been rejected waiting for a better offer, maybe we are waiting to see who is released at the end of the window or which players are looking to go out on loan as their club signed someone in their position.  Might still be some movement - maybe that is said more in hope than expectation

Smith seems on odd one as I doubt there will be many looking to sign an out of contract soon to be 35 year old.  However if he feels he cant keep Freeman out of the team I would question if he is someone we want to sign

I'm pretty convinced that it's entirely down to Ogren penny pinching and being generally fucking clueless.

Also very likely!

It just didn’t work out. But it wasn’t because we didn’t try.“I don’t understand some of the animosity and, frankly, I don’t think it’s justified.”

I read this the other day and was speechless.

That statement show he does not understand how fans of a club feel when they see it going wrong and there is a consensus on who is driving it.

I have to be honest and say i can't recall anyone suggesting a lack of effort, I do recall us saying certain people were sh!t at there job and were ruining the club - and our current position backs up the supporters sentiment on that front.

A lot of the problem is all of us knew he wasnt capable but our owner somehow didnt see that or believed that someone who decided he wanted to be a sporting director after being an agent for a few years would be the person to run the club with no oversight from anyone, who probably stopped just short of picking the team.  He no doubt bought into a theoretical model, which you have to ask why no one else had employed it if it was so successful.

The reason Ogren was less in focus was for two reasons in my opinion:
1. We all knew that he had no clue, and was taken in by the charlatan TA
2. Because of his investment he had skin in the game so needs us to be successful to regain his investment.

At the moment it feels a bit like the period when ST was just clawing back the money his dad invested in the club, keen to see this years accounts and where all of the money from sales and sell on fess has went.  I am sure it has been used to pay down the debt owed to Ogren.

Dundee United » Utd vs Dunfermline - Saturday 12th August » 14/8/2023 10:44 am

watching the game at the weekend and noticed something about the difference between Meekinson and Sibbald.   Most of the time in possession Sibbald was on the move, looking for space to give an option or maybe create space for others, at times Meekinson seemed very static and happy to stand in between to opposition players meaning he was not an option and also very easy to pick up by the opposition.

Not saying Sibbald is anything special but Meekinson needs to look at the difference and raise his effort levels.  Could this be due to the number of non competitive games played by the under 21s.

We got out of jail on saturday and agree there were a lot of players who seemed to be off the boil

Has anyone heard anything more on the Niskanen sale, has went very quiet after the initial news?

Dundee United » Arbroath vs Dundee Utd - Friday 4/8/23 » 07/8/2023 5:09 pm

The clean sheet was key, but in reality we never really looked to troubled by them on the night - if we can continue with that we will be in a good position

Noticed they have called it the Heritage Kit does that mean there will be another more standard away kit still to come out?

No the current trend is to give kits names other than "home" or "away" these days.

That being said it would not surprise me if we get a third kit later in the season.

True, was looking at the Middlesbrough site who are supplied by Errea and they have released a first and 3rd kit with a 2nd still to be announced - thought we might be the same.

Another strange modern fascination is that both CH must have a different dominant foot.
I'm told it's a problem to play Holt & Graham together , why?
Hearty & Narey Miller & Mcliesh Durnan & Donaldson 😀 didn't used to be an issue.

You had me until the last pair!!

Good point you make, what happens when someone goes through the middle of the defence and the are both on their weaker foot!

Goodwin said we are looking for another striker to play the fletcher role.

Let's hope he's a good one

Will it be another loan deal or a permanent signing?  Bothe have positive and negative implications

Delighted we have a goalkeeper in the squad, can't believe he can be any worse that last season's clown.

Happy we have also brought in a RCB but would like to bring in a bitb of experience to coach the young lads through. Mental that we have a 36 year old with 40 odd caps for Scotland and we are chasing him out the door, but for me Mulgrew needs to go. Attending Celtic rally's in the league run in and chucking it against RC away last season were just too much for me.

Experience CB, Another GK and two Strikers.

37 year old Mulgrew is on a mental wage for the level we are now at, add to that his legs have gone and also the other stuff you've mentioned and it's an absolute no brainier for me.

Also not someone I would want around our younger players as a coach

Hopefully he’ll be 3rd choice next year till he decides to quit.

If we can't sell or pay him off then loan him out to lower leagues or the league of Ireland for the season.

would you want him anywhere near your team?

Dundee United » Club being bled dry » 06/7/2023 11:51 am

Conservatively if they were on an average of around £2k per week (I would guess the average is higher) that adds up to £1.35m and we will only be paying out max £2k for the 3 new signings so a net saving of just over £1m.

Even without transfer fees there has to be some budget for additional players in the areas we need them without losing the salary of Behich who will no doubt be away soon

Crocombe?

As long as he can stop shots now and then it will do my health wonders, not sure i can take the Heart palpitations when someone has a shot followed by an increase in blood pressure when he makes the inevitable error!

Now at St Johnstone

Talk about a relegation signing

Just glad he is gone from us and hope he never darkens our door again

I know budgets are tight but can we maybe look at buying a second microphone so we can hear the questions a bit more clearly

Dundee United » Rebuilding United in the Championship » 31/5/2023 1:27 pm

while i dont agree with getting rid of the Academy there needs a major re-think. At one point it seemed to be the main focus of the club and not the first team, as shown by the almost one to one ration of coaches to players.  Even more conflicting is we loan so many of them out but are probably still paying most of their costs.  And being realistic if you get two or three young players breaking through a year that is a high level of return, most teams are lucky of the have one.

It makes sense to focus on those from the youth teams we believe have a realistic chance and try to develop them by working with the first team.  lets face it we have not had a record of improving players in recent years
