Malky Mackay's a 'no thanks' from me. Not just because of the alleged sexist and racist stuff, also due to his associations with Iain Moody and the suspicions of his cash workings with Moody.
His involvement at Tannadice would leave me doubting the integrity of our selection process.
There are other reasons too, but I'll leave it there.

I'm firmly with Pat on this - suspect he's cleaned up his act, but its still a no from me.

Mackay not someone I'd want to say take the job. As said above, I don't doubt he regrets his actions but some of the things in the texts were horrific. Not someone I want connected with the club.

Unless he's a complete moron, he's hardly likely to make the same mistakes again.
Does joking with a friend make it ok? Have you read the texts? Would you text that to your mates about someone else?
Double standards? Toby come on mate. You canna sit there and say you are ok with those types of comments being connected with a potential manager of our club.

Mackay has too much baggage - big no.
I worry about who our next gaffer will be. There is no stand out names that I think 100% yes.
Motherwell, Robinson - Yes, but he won't come.
Tommy Wright - Yes, but he won't come.
Has Tony Ashgar got too much control? Is it a risk? He was partly to blame for the signings that he made with Neilson last year. I never felt comfortable with Mal being here, and I was right. Have the same feeling with Ashgar.

Braw. Might make them all the more keen on us now.
No sure which I'd prefer but the more decent managers in the mix the better for us.

Sky claiming interviews are on at the weekend. Utd looking for someone with experience of the Scottish game.

Thank fuck if true. Affy risky with the opposite no matter their status or pedigree.

Wee bit surprised some people think Mackay is a good candidate, even leaving the text stuff and money issues aside.
He did have a very good spell at Cardiff on the playing field, but other than that 7-8 years ago nothing else has impressed. But has he helped improve anything in Scottish football? That's his job presently, which he's done for 3 and a half years, with no progress whatsoever. In fact he's helped kill off many of the youth set ups at Scottish clubs with the requirements for elite coaches and performance schools which can only be implemented by the teams with plenty cash to hand. Then there's his support for Project Brave, which is going nowhere fast, and colt sides. He got the SFA gig and his first job was to endorse Project Brave, which was probably the major plank of his interview.
I'd be interested to learn why anyone thinks he'd be a suitable candidate.
I'm not too taken by Wright either, as an aside, and would prefer a younger manager who'd be more likely to buy into the club and see it as a stepping stone for bigger things.

Indeed - surprised he's out throwing stones...
FWIW I think Frankie Boyle is a knob, thinks he's cleverer than he actually is and won't be earning any of my hard earned.

McCulloch and Forrest not interested and will go to hearts when new manager comes in according to the sun

Wrt Mackay, I'm not going to judge whether he has paid his dues or not, and it seems as much luck as judgement whether managers work out IMO, but surely have have enough crap going on right now without the controversy appointing him would cause. And the timing of that couldn't be worse with the BLM situation.
Another time another place, maybe, but I really think it would be nuts to bring all that baggage onto the club right now.

So a young man comes in, does well and is away in a year or two at most and we're back to square one trying to find yet another Boss.
Let's try and find a man that wants to stick around and is happy to build something good at Utd and stick around here for years.
That man is (for me) Tommy Wright.
He showed loyalty to stay at St.Johnstone for 7 years in total. I'd like to see him offered the chance to get Utd into a regular top 6 club again and one that is regularly at Hampden and in European competition.
He is 56 now so he would possibly see Utd as his last job before retiring i.e. he would be looking at a settled stay and not to move on to a bigger club.

The same article that says McCulloch and Forrest dont want the job also says this about Wright:
"highly unlikely he will end up at Tannadice"
Thats a few different articles that have said that now. I agree he is the safest pair of hands to see us through our first season in the Premiership. But for whatever reason it just appears as if there is very little chance of it happening.

Still hoping we go for Stephen Robinson. Doubt it sadly.

Story tonight that he is about to sign a bumper new deal at Motherwell. Suggests that he pulled out of the NI job race too. But another non-starter it would seem. I highly doubt he would leave Motherwell for us at this time anyway and have felt this from the start.

There's no loyalty in football, as far as I've seen Tek. I'd be very happy to get someone who does well for a year or two at most, settle us back into the top league and build from there. Tommy Wright might do that, right enough, there are no guarantees.

Unlike a lot of United fans, I wouldn't have been unhappy at McCulloch getting a shot, as I've not heard anyone saying a bad word about him who has met him, on a personal level. But he doesn't appear to want to be a manager, so fair enough.
Regarding Robinson, he's done a fair job at M'well, but that doesn't lead to him being a great choice elsewhere. There are no warrants when a guy takes a new job; in any case, we perhaps aren't any more attractive than M'well at this particular point in time, being realistic, so why move sideways?
To the original question, "Who would you want as new Manager?", if Darren Fletcher and Duncan Ferguson are unrealistic, I'd go for Barry Robson.
Tony, if you're looking in, take heed.
John Robertson or Gordon Strachan.
I don't see either in the betting tho.
There are 14 names on Paddy Power's book.
Wonder what odds you'd get on none of them.
Shortish I think.
Gordon Young?
Asst Mgr Cove
Very underrated
