Every person at Wimbledon has to show proof of either double vaccination or a negative Covid test that day. Don't see why that shouldn't happen up here as well to allow things to start moving forwards.

That is no conspiracy. He (Mark Ogren) said so himself, since Day One.

Agreed sorry Tek, the conspiracy is their net gain is to be by means of selling young starlets.
Like some sort of puppy farm?
I've no problem with them making money but God help them.

They are down 7M quid, so far.

How else do they recoup the money? Other than sell players.

Why else do you think there is this weird obsession with us 'going with youth'? How many young players did Cup double winning St.Johnstone have in their ranks btw?

It's all bullshit. The Ogren's have made a grave error thinking they could make money from DUFC and everything that is about to happen at the club is their desperate attempt to claw back some of their money.

To be fair, St Johnstone had 5 players in their team that came through their youth system: Zander Clark, Jason Kerr, Liam Gordon, Ali McCann and Chris Kane, plus Stevie May who was on the bench. However, none of these players were just chucked in at 16-17 to play week-in, week-out and they certainly weren't chucked in en-masse either. In fact all of them are in or approaching their mid-20's (bar McCann who is a very good player btw) and all of them spent several seasons out on loan in the lower leagues (many of them in fact played against us in the Championship for teams like QotS) and didn't establish themselves as 1st team players in St Johnstone's team until the last 2-3 years by which point they were much tougher having played regularly at a few different levels. Exactly the same model as we followed under Levein/Houston with players like Goodwillie, Kenneth, Russell etc. Interestingly, St Johnstone aren't part of the top level of Project Brave and therefore aren't hamstrung by the ridiculously costly demands placed on clubs by it.

I actually feel really sorry for the kids we've got. The expectations the club are placing on them because of the way they are talking them up so much a

Hear hear. Especially this bit:

"the club is not just a vehicle for the owners to rake back some of their money on the potential sale of young players (before they are ready, and at the detriment of Utd 1st XI)."

Anyone who thinks this relentless media promotion of the clubs academy is about anything other than flogging laddies like Smith as quickly as possible to a sucker down south so Ogren can recoup some losses is painfully naive. It's also about the self-promotion of certain individuals.

We'll be lucky if some of these boys play 100 minutes for United next season, never mind 100 games. What's the point of investing all of that money into the academy if the team (not the club) is not going to benefit from it?

Heard a rumour that Sporle spat the dummy at being selected for the Killie game because he knew it meant he'd be left out of the cup game. He was seemingly dropped from the squad on Sunday because of his attitude.

Deniz

Smith
Edwards
Reynolds
Robson

Butcher
Fuchs

Chalmers
Pawlett
Appere

Shankland

Robson, Deniz and Fuchs would all count themselves lucky to be selected though since they were all shite on Wednesday night.

If the Chinese and the Americans want these clubs, can they not just fuck off there and leave the rest of us to get on with actual football? Or alternatively they can support their own leagues???

Steven Pressley was a big signing considering we had just been relegated and he was playing in the English Premiership. Record fee as well.

Petric was a Yugoslav internationalist in 1993 as well and could've gone to Euro 92 in arguably the strongest European side ever.

Glad we're safe, but we are fucking awful to watch. Quality in midfield is shocking, final ball is continually poor or the wrong option and the finishing is too often powder puff.

We looked better when the subbies came on today, largely because they actually found their own men with passes.

Wee Fuchs has been poor for a while now. Where we play him (right of a midfield 3)  doesn't suit him.

It's got better for sure since the Ross County game. Defensively we are miles better than even when we were playing 5-4-1. Midfield to front is still an issue, good decision making and accurate passing like we saw at the goal is still far too rare.

Dundee United » Summer Transfer Window 2021 » 18/3/2021 6:29 pm

Realistically, we need a left-sided centre half, a left back, 1 winger, a huge target man, an attacking midfielder/number 10 and that is before you factor in the possibility of Benji and Shankland leaving.

You could make a case that we also could do with another defensive midfielder if Powers goes and another wide player when Bolton's loan ends.

So anywhere between 5-9 players required if we are looking to progress from this season. A big job.

Peter was a great guy. His son Dwayne played for my Sunday boys team.

Dundee United » Gary McGinnis » 11/3/2021 7:29 am

He tended to play right back for us but when he moved to St Johnstone (under Totten) he played as a central defender and was their captain. Think like others like Tommy Coyne and Dave Beaumont he was a decent player who suffered because he wasn't up to the high quality of players around him and went on to have decent careers elsewhere.

Dundee United » Money » 11/2/2021 8:26 am

English clubs have very little reliance on gate receipts though. It's mostly tv money so for them little has changed. Understand what you are saying though.

I miss Thames Television. ITV was never the same after they lost their franchise.
