Been watching a power of old Utd footage recently.
Sorry, but what the actual fuck did JYM see in this guy?
Played for Utd for 7 seasons (albeit as a bit part player), astonishing.
Just about every game i watch, that he features in, he is at fault in some way.
Seems one of JYM's rare blindspot's, this player.
Harsh? Did you have to see him in the flesh?
Opinions of those who seen him.

He tended to play right back for us but when he moved to St Johnstone (under Totten) he played as a central defender and was their captain. Think like others like Tommy Coyne and Dave Beaumont he was a decent player who suffered because he wasn't up to the high quality of players around him and went on to have decent careers elsewhere.

Watching the videos on Peter Hinds, what a player Cleland was at 18! Gary McGinnis from memory was a solid understudy to Malpas. Probably was what's known as a good pro and find his place a the Perth Saints and had a good career I'd say with limited attacking flair but decent at what he had to do.

Agree with the above. McGinnis was what you might call a journeyman compared to some of the stars at McLean's disposal. Was always a level or two below our mainstays but was a pretty decent player. Would walk into our current team.

I think his big problem was being the UTD RB after Gough, probably our best ever RB.
As said above he would walk into our current team.
