Dundee United » Go Fund Me started by Paul McNicholl (Dode Fox Podcast) » 09/7/2020 9:36 pm

Thanks for all the kind comments folks and apologies (Finn Dossing) for the confusing nature of what direction the walk was due to take.

Andy and myself just thought Tannadice to Tynecastle would be impressive enough for people to hopefully get behind and sponsor us but the more that this took off the more it was becoming apparent that there was potential for some trouble. No one wants that.

So, we’ll start at Tynecastle and finish at our own Theatre of Dreams. I cannae quite believe how much has been raised but it’s bloody wonderful.

There’s a bit of me that is hacked off that it will inevitably go into the pockets of some lawyers but if it means that the club themselves don’t have to take the full brunt of the Legal Bill, that will be landing on the Tannadice door mat shortly, then that to me is a worthwhile cause.

At such a difficult, and expensive, time for people the amount raised so far is truly exceptional. People are on furlough, people have been laid off, season tickets have been purchased, Title winning t-shirts and cardboard cut-out fans have also been bought but somehow a large number of Arabs have dug deep, yet again, to try their best to help out their club.

I hope that the club appreciate the generosity of the fans and I am fairly certain that they will.   🖤🧡

Evening folks, been a long time since I’ve been on any forums but seeing as I’m here now it would be remiss of me not to mention that the great Paul Sturrock was the guest on this weeks Dode Fox Podcast.

An absolute hero of mines, and probably most people on this forum, and it was a more than decent conversation with him.

If you’re into podcasts, it’s Episode 44. Well worth a listen. Cheers.

Dundee United » Will you attend Utd matches at Ibrox? » 25/4/2020 9:27 am

Probably not. I love going to, and taking my young lad to, all the games but I can imagine that it may be a tad dodgy at Ibrox.

No sure that I want to take him into an area where you can almost guarantee that we'll get pelted with coins and other wonderful items.

Pawlett is back in full training with the squad so unless he loses an eyelash or gets a ladder in his tights I'd expect him to be in the squad on Saturday.

Here's hoping anyway as a fit Pawlett is a great asset in this league.

It may be Christmas time but let's be honest, wah cares, it's all about Friday for me this week! Cannae wait.

Kdyteejay and SuperMario..........thank you.

It was a longer than usual episode and we're never too sure how they'll be received but, so far, this one has went down very well. That's all down to the guest though, quite clearly.

excellent as per Ronny. Any chance you could get someone from DUSF on to help promote their efforts in supporting the club. It would be nice to get a few more members on board. I am suggesting this as an ordinary member and I in no way speak on their behalf.

Evening kdyteejay. I know that Ronny has answered this query but here's my tuppence worth.

Would we have someone on from the Supporters Foundation? Of course. We'll speak to any United fans. Ronny and myself are both just fans ourselves.

One thing that I'm, personally, not wanting to do however is to be a source of division. There are so many United supporters groups out there, too many for a club our size in my opinion, and I wouldn't want to be seen to be favouring any particular one over the other ones. Even though I feel we have too many I want them all to do well. There was a lot of bickering between groups in the last few years, for whatever reason, and I'd rather not have anything to do with reigniting that as the club is in a far more positive place at present.

I feel that if we had somebody on from one of the groups we'd probably have to have someone from all the other groups on too. I've never really bothered with the politics of our club and I'd rather not start now. For one, I'm simply not all that smart or interested in it. I just want to see  my team win games of football and then chat about it. All lightheartedly of course.

Myself and Ronny noticed today that it's been a while since we had an actual "fan" guest on the podcast so we'll try and get that sorted in the next few weeks.

Anyway, as I said at the beginning, that is purely my opinion, for better or worse.

To any of you that listen to the podcast, I can honestly say that it means the world to us. We've only been doing this for 6 months but it has surpassed anything that we ever thought it

Dundee United » Arbroath v Dundee Utd - Saturday 14th December » 13/12/2019 1:30 pm

No idea who I'd leave out but McMullan would be back in my starting line up.

We were narrow as buggery on Tuesday and McMullan would fix that issue. If pushed, I probably would be inclined to leave Stanton out but that would be extremely harsh on him as he hasn't done anything to merit being left out.

We're in the business of winning football matches though and I feel that McMullan on the right, instead of Stanton, gives us a better chance of doing that.

Dundee United » Love what the club are all about these days » 09/12/2019 2:09 pm

It is good the club are bringing people back to the club agree.

Someone brought it up yesterday that it would be better to bring them out onto the pitch at half time though as alot of people aren't in the ground for 2.50pm which is a good point.

I've edited out a bit of the post that I'm replying to *as I'm a complete neep* but my post is in reply to a point that Bowers made.

I think that the reason that the "Legends" are brought out just before kick off is to get us punters up on our feet, clapping, and making a bit of noise for when the team actually come out of the tunnel to start the match.

If the Legend was to be wheeled out at Half Time there would be a similar amount of people not in their seats at that time too due to going for some scran or a pish. Personally, I quite like the way that they are doing it just now but that may be because I'm usually in my seat about 20 mins before kick off so I'm no missing the festivities.

Crackin reception for Russell on Saturday too.

Is Nicky Clark good enough for the Premiership?  I dunno.

That's a fair question Macho Man and one that a lot of fans have posed since this news was first mooted.

In my opinion, I feel that he is and, personally, I'm very happy that we're looking to extend his stay at Tannadice. Just because he may not be a proven quantity in the top league, yet, doesn't mean that he can't succeed at that level. He's an intelligent player with an eye for goal.

Dundee United » Derby tickets on sale » 05/12/2019 2:10 pm

There is a helluva thirst from fellow Arabs for this upcoming Derby and seeing that all of the tickets got snapped up in such a short space of time is absolutely magnificent.

Here's hoping that the crowds, that we have had up to now this season, continue with the Alloa and Ayr home games pre Derby. That would be magic to see.

Can also see there being at least 2500 Arabs descending on Arbroath next Saturday. Its a great time to be a United fan............but its no half making a dent in a lot of wallets!

Can I ask though in the PC world we live in, why do you single out Alassan Jones for ridicule, from what I’ve heard he’s a player albeit not ready for the first team but given time may make it like Louis appere still young ?

Hey Special Brew, cheers for the question.

We’re absolutely not ridiculing Alassan Jones. Quite the opposite I’d suggest. We’re more ridiculing the fact that we cannae find much information about him or his loan spell. I don’t think that we ridicule any United players at all, although we have had a little dig at ex players from time to time, but I can only apologise if you feel like it comes across as us mocking or slagging off Alassan. That is absolutely not our intention.

Cheers buddy. 👍🏼

It definitely does not come across as mocking but just as you say. Keep up the great work guys, I love listening to the podcast and await it eagerly each week.

I think that's all the questions answered. Thank you very much for taking time to ask a couple of dafties a number of questions. When Tek first mooted this idea I didn't think anyone would ask anything so it's been a pleasant surprise.

Also to any of you reading this, that actually listen to the podcast, thank you very much. If no one listened, we wouldn't do it, so it means a lot that plenty of Arabs actually give us an hour, or an hour and a half, of their time each week.

Thanks again lads and thanks Tek. Big fan of this forum, even if I don't post much on it. I'm on it most days.

Ronny, are ever in a position to (or tempted to) voice your opinion Utd players or the manager. I'd have struggled to bite my toungue with Laszlo for sure!

Ronny has done a bunk so I'll do my best to channel my inner Rondo and answer this question on his behalf.

I'm sure that like all of us there will have been times when Ronny has thought "well that was fu**in shite" but he's not the sort of person to air that opinion publicly. After the Queen of the South match (the away one) Ronny was just as pissed off as I was when we recorded the podcast but he just let me say everything whilst nodding his head and laughing at the other side of the table.

From speaking to him, he doesn't shy away from venting when there is something to vent about but it's just not his style.

Hope that answers it LAO.

Ah, you're the food critic….  I had a great mushroom wellington in hospo at Tannadice, fantastic.

What is the most treasured bit of United memorabilia which you possess, and what is the oddest souvenir you’ve ever collected from attending games?

I still have my old VG top but it wouldn't even fit my son now. I also still have my match ticket, as I'm sure a number of folk do, from the 1994 Cup Final. I treasure them.

I'm not sure that I have any odd memorabilia.

All time favourite United songs? Top 3 recorded & top 3 sung?

Old school for me. I've always loved the "It's United" and "The Terrors of Tannadice". The Hamish song is absolutely brilliant too. We've been blessed to have they 3 associated with our club.

Favourite match chant would have to be "Please Release Me" closely followed by the Jimmy Gomis song. I'm also loving singing our Lawrence Shankland song this season as it invariably means that he's just scored again.

If you had of asked me this in the Summer it would have been the St Mirren match in last seasons Scottish Cup. He loved that......as did I.

If you had of asked me before that it would have been the Irn Bru Cup Final. He loved that.

Now though, it would have to be the 6 - 2 Derby win this season. He was a flag bearer on the pitch pre-match, with the rest of his CPD Football buddies, he was then on the pitch at half time, and scored, and then we went on to win 6 - 2.  For Leo, it was a damn near perfect night.

💛 it. Lucky wee lad in so many ways experiencing all that in a Derby match at his age.
