we need someone who has a clue about the sport and does not see it as a way of 'connecting with the old country' or making a profit.

Brighton or brentford link or minority stake would probably be much better

Dundee United » GOODWIN OUT » 18/3/2024 11:52 am

I dont see us getting rid of him anytime before the end of the season - if we dont make it up this year then he has to go, so many other managers out there would get more of a tune out of this team.

In terms of recruitment we may have more options as a block was TAs presence at the club, people in football talk and no doubt word spread about what he had implemented and many decided to stay away.

Dundee United » Dunfermline vs Utd - Friday 15th March (7.45PM) » 18/3/2024 11:49 am

There has to be something really deep causing an issue either with JG management style or the players as every game where the need to be up for it they seem to fall very short.  This is whay there are more and more fans convinced we need automatic promotion as we are unlikely to get through the play offs with this issue.

What was a strength against Morton of pressing them all the time and closing down the space seemed to not be there on Friday - have no idea why.

Of the starting lineup only 3 were regular players before JG arrived so the team has his DNA

Does anyone know what the thinking was of playing Grieve and Tillson down the same side it was asking for trouble.  Maybe I am not seeing it as I am not at the matches very often but not entriely sure what it is Grieve offers, his movement seems to confuse his team mates and his touch is poor.

good win at tough ground

Morton fans not confident, few injuries and creating nothing up front. If we dont concede first we can win this

Lets hope we can manage not to concede first as all they will do is sit in behind the ball and we will struggle to break them down.

2-0 united. Please Please drop Grieve not good enough

Totally agree, he's one of those players who looks busy and industrious but ultimately nothing leads anywhere

how many times have we conceded the first goal recently - are they even working on this in training

And when was the last time we needed a result we went out and got one - starting to become a huge concern!!

Dundee United » Raith Rovers vs DUFC - Friday 16th February (7.45PM) » 20/2/2024 10:43 am

been saying some of what you have commented on for a while Finn.  Strikes me as a manager who believe his tactics are always correct and it is an absolute they are not wrong just the players not executing them well enough.

Not calling for his head but most good managers have options on the bench that allow a change in tactics at key points in the game or if they are required.  At the moment all we seem to do is replace the preferred player in a position with one that was not quite good enough to start in that position.

Even when it is clear teams have adapted and worked us out nothing seems to change, we also dont mix up how we play it always seems to be a slow ball out the back and allow teams to settle and get behind the ball - when we go a goal down this suits the other team as they can deny us space.

I agree with all the views on how every time we have a crucial match we seem to crumble and fail to deliver, clearly last season we were lacking leaders on and off the park - whats worrying is the same seems to be happening this season - is it the coaches being too calm not getting the team up for it, is there a concentration issue.  mot sure.

One thing that strikes me is no matter how the match is playing out we never seem to change formation or tactics (except in the final minutes - where we punt long balls into the box), every sub is like for like.  That is my biggest frustration

Dundee United » Out of Contract players - Who would you keep? » 05/2/2024 10:27 am

Jack Walton – try to keep but prob too expensive, but may want to play every week
Ross Graham – extend 1 year, don’t see any young players coming through in this position at the moment
Kevin Holt
Scott McMann – extend 1 year
David Wotherspoon – make decision at end of season
Craig Sibbald (appearances close to triggering new 1 year extension, however)
Archie Meekison - 1 year extension, could be a decision between him and Mochrie
Chris Mochrie – 1 year extension, could be decision between him and Meekison
Louis Moult – has to offer more between now and end of season

Keep the following young players – moving on some of the other former youth players should create space, but would expect at least a couple to be released
Miller Thomson
Lewis O'Donnell
Bryan Mwangi
Craig Moore
Layton Bisland
Ruairidh Adams

3 - 0 united, think they will come out to try and win the match and we do better against those teams than the ones that sit in.

But we are so Jekyll and Hyde at the moment who knows

Dundee United » January window, what do we need? » 30/1/2024 10:54 am

unless there is someone with some experience of first team football then we will not bring anyone in - too big a risk, as we have seen with Denham, of you player with no first team experience coming in on loan.

Probably need to move on some of the higher earners not playing which we have been unable to do.

would like an overlapping right back as Grimshaw is functional but offer very little in terms of passing or crossing - but doubt that will happen.

Dundee United » Tannadice/Ground sharing » 19/1/2024 9:17 am

Another perspective on this may be the questions are not just coming from us.  Perhaps the wee teams owners don't have the funds to realise the promises they made of a new stadium and the only way they can afford it and receive local/ regional/ national/ UEFA/ FIFA funding is if the stadium is shared.

Could even be the club have been approached and are just testing the waters to see the appetite within the fan base.

Financially it probably makes sense emotionally I dont want to share a ground we lose some of our identity

Going by what the CEO said at last night's Foundation meeting it was and still is an absolute shambles in the recruitment side of things.

Goodwin and Capuano both confirmed we don't even have a scouting dept/network seriously come on to fuck🤷‍♂️.

Which means it's all on Goodwin, which in my opinion has reaped far more success than what Ashgar and his chancers did.

@ Lancashire-Arab, JG confirmed a right sided defender (cover for Gallagher) is a priority.

Few outvthe doors first though I think.

Good to hear. Will be interesting to see who we can move on other than returning loan players.

Dundee United » January window, what do we need? » 16/1/2024 10:46 am

so without a head of recruitment and a sporting director we have made signing sooner than normal and not had to panic after selling a player on the final day of the window - food for thought.

Next object has to be some right sided defensive cover as we could be exposed if we have any more injuries but for once I am optimistic we may see some progress there.
