Just had a look at some of his clips. Looks to be a bit of a box-to-box midfielder. Good mix of him keeping possession and spraying passes from deep, but also a few goal and assists coming from breaking late in to the box.

The proof will be on the pudding, of course, but on first look he seems a decent option.

Games are often won and lost in midfield, so I like that we are not taking any chances with numbers.

Sibbald
Sevelj
Camara
Stephenson?
Pappoe?

That would give us a fair bit of depth even before you bring Odada and O'Donnell into the conversation.

Anyone know who the young left back was today in the 2nd half? He done well.

Keir Gilligan. Him and a few of the others on show today signed last summer:

To be fair he was probably counting Hamulic in that.

Hamulic
Kucherenko
Esselink
Another

Club decided against Hamulic. So once Esselink confirmed and if there is another this week that would make it 3 since he said that on a podcast.

For what it's worth, he was speculating, because he is a reporter who gets everything through sources. But he's not usually far off wrong to be fair to the guy.

On the latest podcast, he make a joke about how he'll just not say things like that in the future because of the stick he's apparently had online since then. People take transfer season way too seriously.

Must admit, I am getting a wee bit nervous about all the foreign signings we’re making. I feel it’s a massive gamble ripping the experienced Scottish core that has done so well for us over the past 2 seasons to replace them all with largely inexperienced foreign players. What that does to the dressing room does concern me.

I really hope it doesn’t but I’ve got a feeling this season goes tits up again in big way. We’ve shifted too far away too quickly from what’s made us successful over the last couple of years.

Still a long way to go in terms of the makeup of the squad. I would imagine these ones have all been done early as we were cautious of the potential work permit/visa issues that can come from foreign players.

We did well with Walton for those couple of seasons but to be honest the general level of goalkeepers in Britain is at an all-time low at the minute, so I'm more than happy with us looking further afield (just not down under mate...).

The players we are relying on to keep the attitude of last season going are Strain, Ferry, Graham, Sibbald and Sevelj. They will likely start the vast majority of our matches if fit. Would love to see Sev given the armband, but time will tell.

Definitely a bit of a concern but at the same time, to keep a similar British core who would we have brought in that we could afford to upgrade those on that list?

I actually think it's going to be really interesting to see if he sees Graham as a starter this year over one of these incoming centrebacks. I'm never convinced that Goodwin rates him as much as he says in public.

It’s definitely hard. There’s not a lot of obvious upgrades in the league that are gettable. In a different time we would’ve went and taken Mulligan from the Fun but now Hibs are in a position to spend £500k+ on the compo, which we’ll never do under Ogren. We’re definitely gonna need investment from someone like a Matthew Benham at Brentford to keep up with Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen, otherwise we’re gonna see a bigger gap opening up in the coming years.

I think financially we are already so far away from those 3 in terms of what we can offer players.

I think we are in our own little bubble to be honest right in between those 3 bigger clubs and the rest of the league.

I think we still need to think about cover in the full back positions. Last season, we used stop-gaps like Stephenson, Sev or Middleton when Strain and Ferry were out. We need a backup for those positions.

Ideally someone in the mould of Sean Dillon who can basically play any position across the back line would be ideal, but they don't come easily.

I would rather see more strikers and wingers signed than a 'creative' midfielder if I'm honest. I've not seen a Goodwin team setup yet where having a system that relied on a good number 10 worked well.

343 and 451 are the systems he excels at in this league and there isn't a lot of space for a Babunski, McGrath, Fraser type in either of those systems.

I want 3 hard working midfielders, two of which can get their foot on the ball when they need to, and another who is box-to-box.

After that, wingers who can beat a man and get the ball in the box for a striker to work with.

I still think we are looking at needing 8 more in the door, minimum.

Canna mind a time when we've ever announced a signing and a new kit at the same time.

People suggest it every year, never happens.

Pinch of salt rumour as there might be some Dundee/Dundee United confusion on Twitter, but Musa Juwara is the name. Only quoted as interest at the moment. Nothing concrete.

Left footed winger. 23 years old, Gambian.

Currently plays for Vejle in Denmark. Has been consistently playing for them the last 2 seasons. Over double figures for goals and assists combined over those seasons.  Was on the books of Bologna and played for them a few times around 20/21.

Like I said, pinch of salt, might be a Dundee target and it's been translated incorrectly.

ADS - 50% of this thread is you moaning we've no signed enough players, mate  Whilst I agree we need to get things moving (we have signed two players which is more than other clubs in the league) the club are clearly working on things so my advice would be to take so called in-the-knows saying "there will be someone signing today" with the biggest pinch of salt you can. If it comes from a decent source then I believe it. Let's be honest, The Courier and The Record are the only two places you can trust to report an actual credible rumour. Alan Temple and Scott Burns. That's it. So I've kept eye on them, and unless they report a rumour, I just semi-ignore the whole 'imminent signing' posts that are littered across all of the forums. Not saying you need to do the same buddy, but I can tell you are stressed out! So just offering some friendly advice

Adegboyega
Gallagher
Graham

Thomson
Sevelj
Sibbald
Babunski
Ferry

VDS
Trapanovski

They play a 352 usually in the league, so I'd match them up. Easy enough to put Sevelj wide right and Miller further up if needed.

Dundee United » Dundee United B vs Dundee B - Tuesday 13/8/24 - 6.30PM » 14/8/2024 8:26 pm

I don't think it is unfair to say that Odada was utterly atrocious in last night's match, given the circumstances. He's been here for around 3 weeks now(?) so I expected him to control that match in midfield, against teenagers that were genuinely about half his height. There wasn't a single moment in the 65 mins he played where I saw him do anything close to good.

Im not writing him off. He was maybe put through a full session in the morning, then had to play the match to push his fitness, but he didn't do any running around to make last night a 'fitness' exercise. His passing was off, he looked sloppy and didn't seem to read the game well. Lewis O'Donnell was miles ahead of him and I'd start him currently over Odada.

Meshack, not so awful, some nice touches and flicks, but nothing crazy. Expected slightly more.

Maybe I'm being overly negative but if you were at the match last night I'd be happy to be told I'm being dramatic.

Alan Temple doesn't seem to post stuff until it's almost certainly done. Haven't read the article, but a good indication it is happening if he is on it.

Wing back on either side that can also play centre midfield is a welcome addition. 3 positions we feel light in at the moment.

Maybe, but we are no doubt still in a big hole on the back of relegation, so they might see anything they can save on him as a win.

Time will definitely tell. We've still not seen Meshack, Odada or Adegboyega actually play a full game of football, so the jury is still out on this window until we see the fruits of Goodwin's labours. However, early signs are very very good.

I think we are at the stage now where we could field a full 11 (fully fit) with only one player that was actually at the club last season.

Richards

Sevelj
Adeboyega
Graham

Strain
Odada
Babunski
Ferry

Meshack
Van Der Sande

Quite the summer turnaround!

Kai hasn't started the season too well, but I'd like to see him get a chance to start up there. He'll work hard to help out Miller and always has a goal in him. Forbes a great option off the bench along with Moult. Probably a toss up with him and VDS at the moment for me until we see more of the new boy. Liked what I saw on Sunday though.

Good stuff. Him and Graham either side of Gallagher feels ok, assuming he backs up his pedigree. Holt on the bench and Sevelj able to step into the back 3 as and when needed.

Sevelj will likely be our RWB until Strain returns with Miller able to fill in there as well. Not a perfect scenario but if Sevelj can replicate Sunday's performance he'll do ok.

Squad really close to being complete now you would assume. I still feel like a striker and another centre mid could be on the cards though once Grimshaw and maybe Watt are moved on. Centre mid purely down to Docherty's injury record and the unknown element of Odada. Plus I think Babunski needs to be further forward. Not sure how we fit everyone in, but it's a good problem to have.

I wonder if we'll look to pick up someone that can cover both wing back positions? A bit like Niskanen was able to do? Ferry has no real cover (it can't be Middleton) and obviously we are already doing the square peg round hole dance with RWB for a few months. A versatile wing back could be a good shout.
