That is a real pisser and we have to now cross our fingers it's not bad and he wont miss too much of pre-season.

If there is any 'silver lining' to it (for want of a better phrase) it must surely now further speed up our search for a Striker or two.

Have heard an English Champ side have bid - this could scupper it

There is a signing imminent.  It’s not Stephenson and it is not the keeper.

Our transfer business is freaking me out now tbh.

Apart from Camara, none of these players know what it takes to play in UK football.

I hope I am being overly worried and anxious about nothing.

I'm not averse to a couple of leftfield foreign gems. Just not a whole team of them. That normally only goes one way.

I agree to an extent. It is a risk going after so many foreign players, especially when last season was built on a core of primarily Scottish players. But looking around the league, is there really that many Scottish players that stood out as being worth going for? I can’t think of many, and the ones that did are likely not gettable.

Probably talking more getting English boys on loan JD, but there are one or two local lads who i think would have been great signings.

Brad Spencer at Falkirk and Danny Armstrong at Killie being two.

I know we signed a good few foreign lads last season but the spine of the team was still Walton, Gallagher, Holt, Docherty, Moult, Dalby. All experienced UK players.

Now they're all gone.

You need that homegrown mentality in the dressing room.

I absolutely agree but if the right one's aren't available/don't want to come then that is football - that backbone you mentioned, every single one of them declined hard since January 1st this year. We simply cannot have that much of a drop again - if it is young, foreign exports but we keep the same form then I for one am happy.

Hahahaha. For what it is worth, there is a spark there. End product still to be seen etc. But we have had 3 years of Middleton. he is honking and the heartbreak i've seen on X is nothing short of laughable - he has been compared to conway (not taking it to heart due to the name) but stuff like that is just absolutely horrendous.

Shipped out to Killie on loan? probably a % of wage saved? I know this, but letting clubs know they are available gives us an advantage on getting rid and gives the player and agent scope to explore new options.

He went to Killie for a week 🤣🤣🤣

2 weeks. But the point still stands make them unavailable for 1st team games and notify clubs that they are surplus to requirements.

Tony watt  - surplus to requirements, out on loan from the beginning of the season

Billy King - told by Hearts he wasn't needed we pounced.

Willo Flood - told the same by Middlesbrough, came back to us.

Yeah I mentioned nothing about releasing them. Telling them they are free to find another club is totally different.

Knowing they are of no use lets their agent alert other clubs making it easier to get rid.

Lots and lots of work to do, I’d start by trying to bin van der Sande, Odada, Meshack and Fotheringham. None of them have shown anywhere near enough to prove they’re capable of playing at the level we need.

VDS should be able to find a club back in Dutch football despite his barren goal record here. Fotheringham you’d imagine would be of interest to most Championship sides based on his goal record in the division we were down there. Meshack and Odada I reckon will be the harder ones to move on. Meshack’s attitude sounds terrible based on what I’ve Davie Martindale say about him, and where is he realistically gonna get a deal as good as he likely has here? Odada sounds like his attitude is fine but just looks like he’s never seen a football pitch in his life and is struggling to even get games in Serbia. Might just be a case of having to cut our losses on the pair of them and paying up their contracts.

I would keep

Strain
Sevelj
Graham
Trapa
Ferry
Thomson
O'Donnell
Harding
Constable

You're all over the place fella.

First Middleton's had a fantastic season, then its "mediocre to good" now it's just better than last year - have a cup of tea, chill out and pick one. Being less shite than last season doesn't magically make him good.

"I don't know what gaslit means" then turns around to lecture on how I have misused it. Righto.

This isn't about enjoying 4th tier football. It's about calling out pish when its glaringly obvious. Docherty and Middleton aren't good enough. Dressing it up doesn't make it any less of a total loser mindset. You do care. If you didn't you wouldn't be writing essays defending mediocrity and contradicting yourself in the process.

Indeed I'm all over the place.  I'll remember to write in binary the next time for your comprehension.  So a player is either pish or not pish and he either ruins our weekends or he doesn't.  Am I getting it?  All our players are pish.  Think I'm mastering this.

I'm beginning to like this gaslighting lark - might try it out elsewhere too.

Anyway mate, roll on the end of the season.  I feel so much of a loser supporting Dundee United, I'm thinking I might not bother next year...actually given we can't afford any players that are 'good enough' maybe we won't have a team anyway.

Conway, hope you enjoyed Saturday.  We're not pretty at times but the dig is there for all to see.  Appreciate that we don't agree on everything, but at the end of the season we're still all Arabs.  All the best for summer and to Euro trips (probably just the two!).

Very much enjoyed it, Finn! absolutely - your points are all spot on. It wouldn't be fun without a few debates!

All the best to you mate - mon the terrors!

As for claims of being gaslit (Conway11), I don't think a footy forum is the place for you if you are going to be so sensitive.  I'm not very sure what gaslit actually means but I certainly don't post on here to belittle anyone or their views, but if I think they are talking shit I'll say so.  If people don't agree with what I say, I actually don't give two f*cks.  Gaslit!  Dearie me...

I don't think football is for you if you think Middleton has had a fantastic season. On the 'gaslit' meaning - why comment if you don't know what it means?

From January all we have heard is how good Docherty/Middleton etc are when in actual fact - both are pish. But fans are being given drops of stats and facts when watching the actual play tells you a different story

Dearie me, do I have to point it out in words of one syllable?  I agree with you that Middelton hasn't had a fantastic season.  It's been on the cusp of passable - the point was he's been better, comparatively than last season.

Football is for me.  I watch a lot of it.  I can take pleasure watching football at all tiers in Scotland and take in as much 4-7 tier as I do top tier.  Not everyone has to be prime Maradona for it to be enjoyable.  As others have suggested it is maybe you that needs to re-evaluate what you get out of the game.

Docherty and Middleton are not pish.  Granted I think their true level is bottom of the Prem/top of the Championship and I agree we need to strive for better players, but I am also realistic about where the club is and the quality it can get on to the park.  Would I extend their contracts?  Unless we have likely better players lined up (and in tha

I can’t believe anyone would accuse Middleton of having a fantastic season. He’s been mediocre at best.

For me this is the last 3 games for United. I think he will get a run or at least a chance in the old English 3rd Division.

Good luck to him, he has been a steady pair of hands in the goal and brought a bit a calm after the blunder from down under.

I have heard we have put the feelers out about a replacement - Freddie Woodman - but he has a lot of offers.

We're playing with 10.5 players!
I was surprised that our players didn't immediately surround the Rangers player that went down too easy for their pen. Is that just me?
Even if it WAS a pen (which I don't think it was) at least you're trying to influence the officials. We seem a bit accepting these days and it's not what I'd expect from a side managed by Jim Goodwin.

Overall a better performance than I expected but we just lack that quality in midfield to make things stick and play into dangerous areas. It's another area the recruitment team need to get right.

Footnote. Unfortunately if the last few weeks have taught us anything it's that if we struggle a bit early doors next season the Goodwin out brigade will be in full voice. They're waiting patiently.

Waiting patiently? We have been rank rotten since January - plenty have seen it coming. But crack on, I'll await the fans getting the blame post when he gets binned.

4 games lost with 2 goals scored since the split - hope you and the mediocrity acceptance brigade are happy

Gallagher and Holt have been immense and one of the reasons we'vebeen so successful.
Agree we're not seeing the best of Babunski though and I agree why.
But results are everything and right now we are getting them.

Morning Redford - current thoughts?

Nice trolling fella.

My thought are pretty much what everyone has said. I want my team to be winning just like everyone else. When Gallacher and Holt were playing together we looked far more solid, Gallacher looked far more solid. Holt's departure has been the main thing that's done for us, then add in the loss of the underrated work that Stephenson brought and the squad starts to look very poor.
Telling Gallacher he wasn't getting a new deal was a shocking move.
When we are winning games I'm prepared to put Goodwin's lack of coaching ability to one side. When we are losing games and looking like a shambles I won't put it to one side. And I haven't. Read my posts.

Is that satisfactory for you?

So when we scrape wins against tinpot mobs, Goodwins ability gets brushed under the rug, when we start to lose to said tinpot mobs its not okay? Right you are buddy.
