Absolutely. It's a recipe for disaster.
Bridging the gap between players and fans is a good thing. But it would be difficult to pick a worse time for that to happen than when fans have just tanked their own body weight in lager then watched a defeat.
It's a bit of a non-story really whether it happened as described or not. I don't really blame the fans for having a pop in the circumstances, nor the player for nibbling back.

The other thing of course is, someone comes up to you at work and tells you you're shit and your work is unacceptable, what's your go to response?
If your boss says that to you, I think the response would be different from a stranger telling you their opinion.
Context is everything.
If this happened, in the same situation I might have said ""know what I don't even fucking care what you think". *
*If they looked like a slower runner than me.
Yeah, I forgot to add that no one is gonna accept that from a random stranger. I run a shift myself and know first hand how negative people can be when faced with any critisism from a superior, but from some random weirdo approaching you in the street? Well they are fully justified in telling them to get to fuck
aye but if this is true, then its a supporter whos paid his hard earned cash so ye could say he's fully entitled to an opinion. wid depend on how he came across ti mcmullan

Still unacceptable, unless you're a total dimwit who thinks that kind of thing is ok.

Arabdownsouth.
That is uncalled for.
I feel Dyce made a good point tbh.

He's woeful. Doesnt contribute anything to the team.

Agree with that b&t the sort of winger any fullback would love to play against. Easy to dominate physically doesn't have a trick , always cuts inside, can easily go 10+minutes without touching the ball and has a woeful crossball on him. Apart from that great player.

Reality of social media is what it is, and it's brutal. Smedum has a point. Players are human and when they read some of the stuff it must hurt. Simple as that. How you react to it as a player is the thing. If you're bright enough you brush it off but I'm sure it gets to some players.
It's all very well saying that players need to man up, and they do to an extent, but nasty harsh internet criticism can affect a player, even a good player.
