The anniversary of Black Monday is coming up soon. I was driving along in my car this afternoon, just daydreaming with the tunes on as you do, and came up with the following theory. It's obviously speculation, we'll never know for sure, but I reckon that this is plausible:
After the Scottish Cup win in 2010, Stephen Thompson had to shell out for player bonus money, the bus parade, a party at the Hilton and probably other things. Once that was all paid for, he noticed that the cash left was around the same as the runner up prize money.
So, in 2015 when we won the League Cup Semi Final, Stephen Thompson knew that as far as he was concerned, he'd be as well losing the final in financial terms.
After the Semi Final, we knew we'd be without Nadir, so in terms of the bank balance, he thought he may as well just selling Armstrong and GMS as he already knew he'd get £X for League Cup Final split gate money and runner up cash.
And that's why he sold the Cup Final and the rest of the season.

How about we just move on?

We can maybe move on from it once the ripple effect has stopped. Until then, to understand where you are, you have to understand how you got there.

Well its a theory, but for me what a lot of shite. Coz we were losing that final whether we sold them in January or June.

Nonsense. Just move on, nothing that happened that January would be any different had it happened in the summer. Fans would still be pissed off, maybe less so than we were but pissed off all the same when those players were allowed to leave anyway with hardly any return for them. We still wouldn't have been able to recruit players of that quality as has been proved since. Five years on now mate and if we were going to recruit better we would have done so by now. Theres a new regime at the club and we have to give them time to make a difference, harping on about events 5 years ago helps no one and changes nothing

To do something like that, Thompson would have to be a pretty devious and calculating character.
I don't think he was either, he was just utterly inept and out of his depth.

I think you give him too much credit. He was gutted about seeing Gomis, Buaben, Conway, Swanson, Kenneth, Dixon, Pernis and others leave for nothing at the end of the their contracts, so when he was offered some money for Armstrong and GMS he took it. Understandable.
At some point, Thompson said that before selling them, he asked Jackie if there were replacements in the squad good enough to keep us in the top six, and jackie said yes. This is the biggest failing, either Jackie actually believed this and Thompson fell for it, or that Thompson failed to see that Jackie's contract clause for sell on fees made him biased.
I understand people saying that we need to move on, and part of me agrees, another part of me is still gutted

To me the bigger ineptness was before the beggining of the next season when the big Pole was allowed to go and we signed two inexperienced centre backs to replace him. Blame Jackie for that. Once in a hole ST shortcomings as a club chairman became glaringly obvious.
But you are right let's move on.

Think somebody needs to fill their mind with different thoughts....
