How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

I think we'll sign another 2 players.

Pawlett and (hopefully) Osman Sow.

I hope Neilson has not put all his striker eggs in the Sow basket like Brewster did with the ICT boys and end up with fuck all.

Need 5, we’ll get 2.

Reckon we’ll see 4 or 5 released once the window closes if not before.

What's the obsession about 'getting rid' of players?
Yes, players come & go but we seem to thrive on departures.
Not happy unless players are getting ejected.
These players were given contracts to sign & have families to keep.

8 in. 27 out.
Oh & if Southern is still an employee I suggest a lynch mob to forcibly remove him.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

're the OP question, no idea

But it won't matter how many good players come in if Robbie can't coach them to play football. I can accept losing, what I can't accept is the manner of defeat to Ayr.
The players looked like they'd just met in the car park, no cohesion, no ability to hold the ball and find a pass, keep control, build pressure, probe for an opening, create a chance, score a goal. That's the part of where we're at presently that really worries me.

We couldn't string 3 passes together, we couldn't create a move. We didn't create a chance until the 92nd minute. I can take losing if we play some football but we played no football at all, zero. So something not right for me.

Oh Ffs, spare me eh. Let's just keep these imposters on for the pay roll for the next two years because they've got families.

I don't remember any 'obsession' with getting rid of players when we had a capable squad that at least had a modicum of fight about them.

Maybe if boys like Barton, Loemba et al were doing their job, we wouldn't be so 'obsessed' with getting them as far away to fuck from our club as possible.

Smedum don't think this is anything new. Even in Jim McLeans time we released players who were deemed surplus to requirements or it was felt they weren't good enough. It's part and parcel of the turnover at all clubs surely?

I do feel if we were appointing a Head Executioner from our fan base we'd be inundated with applications.

'We've signed a winger, Nesbitt. Now get King away to fuck for fuck's sake'.
I see this sort of statement all the time, it's so disappointing.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

Why is it disappointing though?

King has very rarely proved himself throughout his entire time at United to he anything other than surplus to requirements. The problem has been that the club has never managed to find anyone better.

Now that finally it appears they have, of course he should be moved on. He's had more than enough opportunity and he hasn't taken it.

The same goes for several others. This isn't just change for change's sake. The boys that are rumoured to be out the door don't deserve to be at Dundee United.

We've accepted mediocrity for years now. It's no surprise that we've got it.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

I've said before to you SmedDum.

Dundee United are not here to facilitate the lifestyle of individuals regardless of anything. We're neither a benevolant organisation, nor a charity.

Let's get real here. We are a business.

And like any other job, if you aren't performing your job to a certain standard you will be removed from it and someone else will replace you.

That's the harsh realities of the real World that EVERYONE on here must live.

Why should footballers be wrapped in cotton-wool and protected from that?

p.s. they are given a platform at Dundee United to make themselves a fabulous career and set themselves up financially for life if they are willing to work hard and have a desire to improve all the time.

See Andy Robertson.

There's boys with more natural ability than him passed through our doors that fall-out the game within 5 years.

But unfortunately they probably only have themselves to blame for that.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

It's fans' venom that pisses me off.
I was using Nesbitt/King just as an example, no specifics.
Why is the reaction not more along the lines of 'we've signed Nesbitt, that might limit Billy King's game time'.
But no, 'we've signed Nesbitt so get King away to fuck'.
It's this attitude that sickens me, fans are shits these days.

The reason is simple.

We can't sign more (hopefully better players), until we move some on.

We have a first team squad that was sitting at 30 players until Friday.

Ambition has to be tempered with still keeping the business financially prudent.

No, i get you're point.

Why the vitriol? And to a certain degree i agree with you.

But i guess fans get frustrated at at times what they see as players not really giving the effort or application that we may think they are capable of.

So when these same players become an obstacle in us getting more players in, then frustrations turn to real anger.

This is true of just about every clubs support though, not just Utd's.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

It's not just a simple case of 'we've signed a new player in x position. Now get the old incumbent to fuck.' That's totally misrepresentative of what actually happens.

If Neilson does sign Sow, will anyone turn around and say that Safranko should now fuck off? Of course not. Likewise, when Gomis signed, was that Fyvie or Stanton getting the treatment? Everyone I spoke to saw it for what it was, welcome competition for places.

There are plenty at the club just now who are simply not good enough. To be fair, some are honest but just not good enough, who I don't really have an issue with. Rabitsch and Edge would be two examples. The vast majority though, don't appear to give a fuck and are certainly not fighting to improve either their own situation or the club's. I'll not list them, there are far too many. But the sooner the club can get rid, the better. The idea we shouldn't be calling for them to fuck off because they might have families is frankly mental.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

To the OP: I'll be disappointed if we continue to sign midfielders, to the detriment of other areas on the park.

And I'm stunned we haven't attempted to improve the defence, Friday's goal lost surely underlined that whole problem area.

I'd also like to think the players who we do field know how to select the correct footwear for different conditions.

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

Found this on Facebook. I hope the person doesn't mind me putting it here.
This attitude is everything that's wrong at United.

Get rid of Paul mcmullan for a start .... after thistle at home I went and spoke to couple players and said to them I felt it was unaccepable at this level to lose to part time alloa and bottom league thistle in same week and mcmullans reply was "know what I don't even fucking care"

Thing is though, we didn't actually lose to thistle so how much else of this is actually true?

The other thing of course is, someone comes up to you at work and tells you you're shit and your work is unacceptable, what's your go to response?

If your boss says that to you, I think the response would be different from a stranger telling you their opinion.

Context is everything.

If this happened, in the same situation I might have said ""know what I don't even fucking care what you think". *

*If they looked like a slower runner than me.

Yeah, I forgot to add that no one is  gonna accept that from a random stranger. I run a shift myself and know first hand how negative people can be when faced with any critisism from a superior, but from some random weirdo approaching you in the street? Well they are fully justified in telling them to get to fuck

Re: How many more players will we sign by Jan 31st?

Players must love going into hospo lounges post-match to be abused by beer-filled fans.

And as Arabdownsouth points out, Partick Thistle was a draw so there are credibility issues here.
