Tippy Tappy Football

In yesterday’s Courier Csaba comes away with the nugget that tippy tappy football "will not be enough to get United promoted." Sorry If I mock your new found conversion on the road to Damascus (has someone mentioned getting the sack to you?), Csaba but tippy tappy football is actually what took us out of the Top 6, took us out of the SPL and into the Championship and kept us there for what is now a third season in a row and your insistence on playing that way last season contributed to this extended unwanted stay

Csaba you are deluded as you think that tippy tappy football is easy on the eye, pretty, etc. Its not. The tippy tappy stuff we’ve played in the last 4 seasons has been the least attractive, least entertaining football in my 55 years of watching United and probably the biggest single reason why Arabs are so critical nowadays – they get very little if anything to cheer about watching endless backwards and sideways passing.

Its very welcome hearing you say that you’re going to be pragmatic and you wont be shy about doing what’s required but why on earth didn’t you do so last season when we were top of the league. Being pragmatic for me means playing 2 up top minimum in every game (I personally prefer 3 but will settle for 2). Lets give all the midfielders and wing backs something to aim at instead of the go nowhere drivel you’ve foisted on us to date. Lets have defenders being 100% safe and taking no (ZERO) chances at the back and clearing their lines properly every time. Lets keep 1 or even 2 up when defending a set play to give us the chance of a quick counter attack and lets bin tippy tappy stuff until the team has secured a 4 goal lead. The team virtually never scores from tippy tappy football when level or behind, so lets just junk this irrelevant, unsuccessful approach.

Looking forward to seeing whether you turn your words into action. I have my doubts but I live in hope.

Re: Tippy Tappy Football

You seem to feel strongly about this.

Surprised you’ve never mentioned your hate of tippy tappy football before.

Re: Tippy Tappy Football

There's a lot to agree with in annan's post.

Re: Tippy Tappy Football

I agree that it's not the football for the league but I didn't see many fighters in our squad last season....(mohsni and Ralston came in with a bit of dig).
I guess his transfer dealings look like they players have a bit more steel about them and are less likely to hide or go in the sulk.

For me, 3 points today would be an ideal way to show we have turned a corner. We were constantly losing points to the supposed wee'er teams...a comfortable victory would help

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

I'd agree with this. Also this team looks like its going to have more goal threat than the previous two seasons. More balance up front, some big fuckers for balls into the box and some decent delivery at last.

Re: Tippy Tappy Football

If the main aim is to not get bullied by teams in this division and actually try and score goals - then I am happy with that.  tippy tappy at 4-0 maybe

Re: Tippy Tappy Football

Csaba said that tippy tappy will not get us promoted but proceeded to watch his side play that brand of football and I confirm yet again that its not pretty, not easy on the eye, its doesn't work and agree it will not get us up.

Csaba said his side were going to be pragmatic but waited until injury time before trying to be pragmatic - what was wrong with trying it in the other 90 minutes.   The words "all talk" and "no action" spring to mind
