Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

Need to hit the ground running this season. Don't want to hear any pish about these Betfred games being treated as 'glorified pre-season' games. Or the team needing time to 'gel'. All these signings were in early doors and have had 3 weeks to prepare for Arbroath (who'll train, what? twice a week in the evenings?).

Would like to see a strong and attacking team put out.

…………………Siegrist...……
Wardrop….Allardice….Frans....Booth
McMullan....Rabitsch..Stanton...Aird
…………….Curran..Clark….

Subs - Rakovan, Keatings, Smith,
        Edjenguele, King, Murdoch, Robson

Re: Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

I think it will be a similar start to what Mckinnon had in his 1st game.
There will be a very different reaction if this goes to penalties.

But we are using these games as part of preseason, that's already been stated

Re: Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

Need to play the strongest team, draw or lose by fielding a weak / experimental team then we are playing catch up to qualify, yes we are still getting the fitness levels up here but this is the league cup in the end of the day.

Saying that I’ve been on holiday since the start of preseason so have no clue what these lads are like yet so no use in me guessing.

Well that is (as usual) a total crock of shit by our WORST EVER Manager.

These are not pre-season games and should in no way be treated as such.

Completely agree Tek.

Unfortunately the new format for the tournament has led to all teams doing this, completely undermines an important competition imo.

I think it's down to the fact that the ties are bang in the middle of preseason, what else can teams really do?

No the ties are the start of the competitive season.  They could treat it as such.

Besides that, we've done the same for the last two seasons and done OK tbh

So we go into the season with hardly any preseason? Smart!

Re: Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

Also, you seem to be getting your knickers in a twist over a competition we won't win, whereas there is one that we need to win that takes priority

No, they are not 'bang in the middle of pre-season'. They are the START of the competitive Scottish football season.

If Casba Laszlo doesn't feel his team are fit enough yet or ready to hit the ground running then he could and should have started pre-season about 10 days earlier than he did and squeezed in a couple more friendlies in between.

This is a big part of the problem around the club these days...the mentality. It's a losing one from the off. Where mediocrity is not just expected but condoned. We used to go into the League Cup every season with thoughts of winning it or at least going far in it. And as recently as just 3 years ago we very nearly did. In the intervening 3 years though such a rot has set in that all manner of ready made excuses are now wheeled out on the Management's behalf.

Last season was a horrorshow. Our worst ever season for most Arabs. Symbolicly we need to start well and show we mean business this season.

Sadly there will be some who will just shrug if we struggle on Saturday and say things along the lines of 'folk need to chill out, these are just glorified friendlies' or bang-on about the team needing time to gel.

We have been utter shite the last 2 seasons, maybe if the pre-season had been done properly and competitive games taken seriously from the off we would have actually competed when it really mattered.

Re: Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

Imo the Betfred starts so early that all managers have to treat these games as pre-seasons to some extent

When else are managers going to be able to experiment with personnel and formations etc if not in these games.

No reason why we can't do that and win them especially where the Arbroaths of this world are concerned.

Re: Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

New season and fresh hope for me tomorrow.  I can't wait wait to get to the game and am looking for a comfortable win to get the season of to a winning start, I will go for a 4-0 United win.

Only disappointment is Bobby Madden is ref.

Re: Dundee United V's Arbroath - Saturday 14th July (3pm)

Wasn't sure if I'd go but feel more like it now ST has been bought out and is gone.

Taking the kids too and meeting up with others who are of the same feeling. Doubt we will have much of a crowd but expect it will be at least boosted by todays news.

I absolutely want them treating these like preseason games.  Can still win them like.
