Just a thought - can a football club claim charitable status?
I know we have just separated the United for all stuff from the club which brings financial benefits with it however can the club be run as a charity? Say all profits are put towards helping the community?
Just curious
Have a feeling that you cant be a charity and a limited company?

Yeah was thinking one or the other. In all honesty, apart from Celtic, no club is a profit making company. They maybe make small amounts but nobody getting rich.

I actually do consultancy work for a Scottish Charity, but Idon't claim to know all the ins and outs of becoming one but it is rather complicated. For instance, our Club is run by the Directors, Thommo, McCory, Martin. Charities are run by Trustees who are unpaid volunteers.

Sure I heard on the radio when they were discussing Buckfast Abbey loosing charitable status some Priests were on £200 000 a year.
How many Sevconians put towards that I thought!? 😂😎🤔
A mate of mine works in this area and said United were approached to discuss charitable status. Don't think it was the club as a whole but maybe the youth setup or something. The details escape me but there would have been clear benefits to United. Anyway, Stephen Thompson and Derek Robertson couldn't have been less interested.
Main thing is the purpose of the organisation would be to "exist to benefit the public" - no way the "club" would pass that test and it's hard to see how the youth set up would (as it would ultimately benefit United)
Nothing of course to stop United having a charitable arm as it were - but it would need to be very arms length and of no direct benefit to us (imo)

Don't we have charitable status for the United for allcstuff. Sure it was announced recently. To be honest, I've seen the Aberdeen community trust and it reaches out to a lot of the community - hopefully that works out the same.
Just wasn't sure if a club could be run that way or whether it would be beneficial. Just a hypothetical question really

Charitable status?
Like all profits above running costs, taken out and distributed amongst the needy?
I'd settle for us trying to wipe our own arse first, before we wiped others.
Problem is that those in charge still need their mum to wipe their arse.

Was hoping this wouldn't get into an ST thread...

Well I'm sure plenty of others have thought about profits being dished out and could've painted a lot worse scenarios.
