Re: Calum Butcher

dinnae get the fuss over Butcher by some of our support. He's ok.

I suppose you have to put trust in whether of not Jackie brings in some one better.

Sure he's got his scouts out as we speak.

Yeah yeah Industrial Estate

Agree, ok nothing more, would rather see the youngsters with actual potential fill that role if nothing better available comes in.

Re: Calum Butcher

He had a great few games when he was first moved into midfield. Sliding tackles in the opposition box etc.

He's been mostly anonymous since.

Re: Calum Butcher

Flattered to deceive

When he first came into midfield he was doing something novel ....... aggressive tackling
but the novelty has worn off as has his performance level, if he stays well and good if not we move on

We don't give a damn what the others say
We'll cheer on United all the way
For we are the Terrors of Tannadice

Agree with that.

Looked tenacious and hungry when he first got moved into midfield.

Has lost that short lived zip and fire he showed.

If he moves on so be it.

I dont think him leaving is going to leave any kind of gap to be honest. i would have liked to have seen him kept but not a great loss.

Re: Calum Butcher

With Souttar performing well in midfield at end of season I think that it made Butchers role redundant. Reckon it'll be Souttar and Rankin/Paton for next season. Unless Souttar is sold.

Which will go down well

I watched a documentary on him being their and their facilities are amazing - do they not get to use that St Georges Park of the English FA?

Like yerself I liked his determination and fight when on form but won't miss him as he blew hot and cold and I seriously believe we can have better players than him in midfield and defence.
Wasn't a sellable asset as his qualities are easy to find in the UK.

Re: Calum Butcher

Good luck to the lad.

I liked his attitude.i would have liked him to stay but perhaps as others have said the emergence of Soapy in DCM has negated the need to keep Butcher.Particulary as we also have Scott Fraser returning to Tannadice.

His attitude was over appreciated due to a lack of bite in the team.

Every player should match that quality regardless off their position.

Some players just don't have that agressive streak in their make-up though mate and you can't coach that.

Him flying intae 50/50's with Goodwin and Scott Brown and winning made him stand out as a type of young player we seldom have imo i'e' one who can take care of himself and has a nasty streak.

But good luck to him.McNamara never gave him much of a chance and even when he did i felt Butcher was often the fall guy (benched after playing well or subbed before others more worthy of the subbing).

Re: Calum Butcher

really liked butchers attitude and championed him on here for the midfield role...but watched him closely for a spell due to bigging him up and if truth be told he didn't really have it tactcally and awareness...alright being aggressive but he his reading of the game wasn't the best...possibly with the postion he was playing wasn't something he was used to...Souttar has a fae superior football brain to play that role imho

Re: Calum Butcher

I liked Butcher, but as SV states, he was sometimes stranded in areas of the park he shouldn't have been, exposing others in the process.

Nobody had an outstanding season, though.

Ciftci allegedly provides the bite.

Couldn't work out if he was meant to be one of the 2, as expected, but was indisciplined, or Jackie was playing 4141 only when Butch was playing.
