A crazy stat about Goodwin…

If he makes it to April 25th, which he will, he’ll be our longest serving manager since Jim McLean.

Only because Ogren doesn't give a fuck what the fans think. So long as we are safe from relegation and he's over the pond then he won't be going anywhere.  He'll only realise when the season ticket sales take a downturn

Re: A crazy stat about Goodwin…

Since wee Jim's days we've had 3 relegations 5 seasons in the 2nd tier and two last game escapes from relegation.
Times are different.

Re: A crazy stat about Goodwin…

The club have picked a fucking cracking time to release this video, are they deliberately trying to wind folk up? Not the way to improve my fucking mood thats for sure!

Re: A crazy stat about Goodwin…

That interview the club put out with Goodwin and Dillon was an hour of my life I’ll never get back. I came away from that feeling like I’d learned absolutely nothing new about Goodwin and his time at United

I’ve heard Goodwin talk in previous interviews about coming through Celtic’s academy and playing at Scunthorpe f**king United. Quite frankly, I’m not really interested in that part of his career. I’d expect those sort of questions from an interview with one of the west coast rags, not from a club interview.

I would rather they asked him questions about his time at United, which only took up about the last third of the interview. Stuff like why he thinks we went on to lose all 5 games after the split after dragging ourselves out of the relegation zone in 22/23.

Stuff about individual players like Birighitti, Edwards, Mulgrew, Watt, Levitt, Behich etc.

How he galvanized the team after that horrendous defeat in the latter part of the season to Dunfermline, leaving us trailing Raith by a good few points with very few games to go.

Going into that last Raith game where a defeat would’ve killed us, with our two first choice centre halves out injured, and only a couple of kids available, one of whom hadn’t played a game with us up till that point.

Docherty’s injury problems.

Why Babunski never worked out despite his obvious talent.

If there was anything we could’ve done to keep Dalby, Walton etc.

Why he thinks things worked so well last season

What the plan was going into last summer, how difficult it was to let go of a bunch of players who had done really for us, and the thinking behind it.

His reasoning behind choosing a foreign goalkeeper who wasn’t used to the physicality of Scottish football, knowing it had been a risk that had massively cost us before, to his detriment as well.

How the data led style of recruitment at the club assesses character in these foreign signings, concerns over how it affects the dressing room having a group of players from all over the globe, and whether in hindsight he feels we went too far in looking abroad for basically all our signings last summer.

Why we neglected the domestic market altogether last summer, and criticism that came with having starting XI’s and matchday squads that contained zero homegrown players.

The over reliance on set piece goals, which isn’t exclusive to him btw, and the notable drop off in our success in both scoring from them and defending them.

The reasoning behind persisting with a back 3 when it hasn’t been working all season, and how frustrating it is to see the the same players making the same stupid mistakes week in, week out. Meanwhile we’re sacrificing a player further forward when it isn’t making us any more solid defensively.

The fan’s growing frustration with the style of play. His plan moving forward, and whether we’ll see him adopt a more progressive style of play next season if he’s still in charge, given the success other teams in the league have had this season by playing that way, and whether our summer recruitment will be with that idea in mind.

Whether the Moller fee will be reflected in the budget for next season.

How he feels about the state of the pitch and how it’s going to affect us for the remainder of this season.

Those are the sort of questions I’d like to be put to him. With the greatest respect to Goodwim, I have next to zero interest in his time at Scunthorpe or Stockport or Alloa. And I’d imagine that goes for most United fans. Why the club thought it would be a good idea to spend 2/3’s of a in-house interview asking him questions about his time at other clubs is f**king bizarre to me. I came up with better questions to ask him in about 15 minutes there. That interview to me was big pile of nothing.

I think, if you had done the interview with him I might have actually watched it 😂

Some excellent questions 👌

Re: A crazy stat about Goodwin…

Would love to see hear his answers to the above. While I can understand why club media aren't putting those sort of questions to him, I can't understand why actual sports journalists aren't.
Also, the big song and dance made of his three-year anniversary cements what most of us already feared to be the case: the club has no plans to part ways with him at the end of the season.

I actually think it's a slap in the face for fans tbh, the club have to be aware of the rumblings of discontent surely? So why come out now with something thats only gonna serve to wind folk up further? It could have waited, stupid idea.

Re: A crazy stat about Goodwin…

I think if JG had been asked those questions his answers would have only wound up the permanently angry members of our support even more.

I very much doubt if JGs truth would match up with ADS truth.

I wasn't sure before, but I am now. You're trying to aim your jibes at me, cool! Fill your boots! I speak my mind and will continue to do so,but labeling me permanently angry is just bollocks and you know it. I post plenty of positive stuff when the situation demands it, see my comments on Johnny Russell earlier just for an example. If you want to wear your happy blinkers and not see there are serious issues with our team then carry on, I won't be angry with you I promise.

Suppose that depends how he answered them, I generally find Goodwin to be fairly honest in interviews for a manager, so I don’t necessarily agree with you about that.

It would certainly be more illuminating hearing those questions put to him than questions about Stockport fucking County. Are they even a team anymore?

I would agree that his assessment after games is usually pretty honest. But I couldn't see any answer he could give about 3 at the back being accepted by fans ( not just ADS) who want him gone ASAP.

Maybe he could try changing it then
