Starting XI and formation for the midweek 'New Firm' Derby?

AMB
Strain lovu graham ferry
Camara agyei sevelj
Dolcek sapsford Fatah
No rocket science
Doubt Goodwin will change from his beloved 3 at the back

Every defender seems to have been given 2nd and 3rd chances recently, except Bert, so based on the fact he won't change from a 3, I'd go with the start of season back 3.
Not much creativity in there, but the option of Dolcek and Trapanovski coming on v tired legs...

‘Injury’. Goodwin definitely used the cup game to drop him completely.

The sheep are on a bad run,we at least have 4/6pts in the last two games along with a cup win. Must win.

100%
100% cool, maybe you can explain what it means then? Because everyone complained he was shite the other night so not really getting what the problem is.

I didn't think he was shite. Raw, maybe.
He still offered more than Watters did on the night.
Fwiw i don't think Stirton's involvement against Spartans could in anyway be construed as Goodwin trying to find an excuse not to play him. He has used him as a sacrificial lamb in other games however.

Stirton is young and an academy graduate , however his 30minute substitute appearance against tiring part time players was beyond disappointing.
JG knows he is drinking in the last chance saloon and can't afford many if any more defeats.
I thought when the team sheets came out on Saturday that Stirton had been dropped and that was one of JGs decisions that I agreed with.

This.
Threw him in at Celtic park hoping he’d be hopeless and that would be it and it backfired, he actually had some decent chances and showed some good touches.
He then used him against Spartans to finally say ‘he’s not ready’

Then why did he come out the other day and name him as one of the three strikers he's going with until the summer? Have you considered for one moment the lad might have been ill or picked up a knock? Nah lets just go with the conspiracy theory.

I'm guessing because he is one of the only three strikers that we have at the club.
I don't understand what Conway11 is getting at re Goodwin wanting to prove Stirton isn't ready. What would he achieve from that apart from destroying a youth players confidence and showing himself up for being a manager who doesn't trust youth players. Maybe Conway11 could elaborate a bit more?

I feel Goodwin isn’t a fan of Stirton nor using youth players unless he was desperate. Granted that Stirton wasn’t very good on Tuesday night, neither was that donkey Watters and he got 70 mins before he trotted off for a bath.

Conway has an agenda, pure and simple. Sounds very much like someone who's been sacked by the club at some point or maybe Goodwin shagged his missus and did a proper job of it, well up until the very last minute at least 🤣

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. I'd just like to know a bit more about why he thinks Goodwin wanted to think Stirton was hopeless and not ready.

@macho - see Roger's post, this is where I am at. I don't think he fancies playing youngsters unless absolutely necessary, now in the past few months he has began to lose the fans. Mostly all of us were shouting from the rooftops to give Stirton a chance after seeing Watters/Moller. IMO he has gave Stirton game time (a start at Celtic Park) and a few cameos to say to us - look I have played him, I am listening but he is not good enough (yet) everyone is struggling in our current style and I belive Stirton in another side would do well for his age.

Stirton has probably got the attributes to be a pretty good striker for us, but not this version of United, not this style of play.

100%, in the past, boys like Russell/Goodwillie were given gave time next to big Jon Daly, chasing and feeding off of his hold up/flick ons, this set up does not allow that and we rarely create chances for a '9'

Fair comments.
I think it's something a wee bit similar, but different, for what its worth. I think he previously played Stirton in the hope he proves himself not quite ready yet which would have loosened the purse strings during the January transfer window for another striker, but Stirton performed a wee bit better than Goodwin expected. When that didn't happen and we sold Moller (and Goodwin's been told there's no budget to bring in a replacement) I think he's now playing Stirton whilst hoping he isn't up to speed as a big 'up ye' to the chairman. Similar to Mulgrew and co downing tools during the relegation season.
I appreciate that might be far fetched and straying into conspiracy theory territory, but who doesn't like a bit of a far flung theory......

Stirton just isn't that good, I honestly don't see what people are seeing in his game that is a positive at this level, the lad HAS to go out on loan for a season, preferably to the Championship, and see how he does.
Online!

I feel for Owen. Fans have been on Goodwin's case to play him more, but he just isn't ready yet. He may never be ready if we absolutely ruin him now with too much exposure. I suspect that's exactly what Jim has said to Capuano and Ogren. Didn't see him against Spartans, but if he didn't show up then that is actual evidence that he is no where near the step up required to play in the top league.
I saw him at Celtic Park and he played well in the circumstances, but ultimately didn't put away the two chances he had. It was a free hit performance and not one to build on.
I think Stirton's absence is more likely about Jim arguing that he needs someone to replace Moller than anything about Stirton.
The rest of the season at Airdrie would have been far better for Owen's progress, but that can't happen now.
The comment above on big Jon Daly is good one. We are currently missing the spine of a team. Arguably a fit Sibbald gives us one of the midfield spine, but the jury is still out on the keeper (think he might be OK), central defender and central striker.
You look at the boy Barney Stewart at Falkirk (offered to us first by the way) who might be comparable to Owen and then you need to remember he is 3 years older than Owen and was on loan until January with Dunfermline. Owen has loads of time.

You constantly come on and criticise the young boy but say nothing about Max Watters.
Weird.
