Interested to see where people stand on him now.
I’ve been absolutely done with the eye bleeding style of Taliban-ball he has us playing for a while now. I thought I could just about put up with it till the end of the season and then part ways, but it’s got to the point where I don’t enjoy going to see United now, and honestly find it to be an absolute chore to go to games or even watch them on TV.
Now I’m not so sure, I think he’s got us sleepwalking into a relegation battle. 25 points is nowhere near enough to consider ourselves safe. He’s proven once before that when the pressure is on, he shits the bed, so I don’t trust him if we go into the split battling to avoid second bottom.
The squad he’s built is absolutely atrocious. I thought at the time that he was taking a big risk by signing so many foreign players, now in hindsight it was rank stupidity and arrogance. These boys have absolutely no character or stomach about them whatsoever. They’re weak as a fucking kitten, and if they go into the last 4/5 games facing relegation, they will 100% bottle it, I’m in no doubt about that.
I’ve always thought Goodwin’s ability in the transfer market is massively overrated by people. He gets 2 or 3 right every summer, and the rest are usually anywhere from mediocre to absolutely shite. Whoever rubber stamped the signing of that Moller should be fucking jailed. He is by far the worst player that’s ever pulled on a tangerine jersey, and I say that having watched Emil Lyng, Richard Odada, Meshack and Yannick Loemba play for us.
Don’t get me started on the defenders he’s brought in either, holy fuck. That Keresztes’ agent trying to tell folk that teams in the Championship down south are watching. Best of luck to them, because he is absolutely murder, absolutely hopeless with the ball at his feet, stands about ball watching and is soft as shite. And fucking Bert, Jesus Christ, I’ve lost track of the amount of times I’ve watched him get thrown about like a old scud book by strikers half his size.
I was of a mind to keep Goodwin till the end of the season as I thought it was big risk to change at this point, now I think it’s a bigger risk to keep him in charge in a relegation battle.

Sadly It's an out vote from me.
He has his good points but now the bad far outweigh them.
There doesn't seem to be any consistency to his tactics. I'm not surprised that the team look all at sorts at times, cos he changes our tactics for each opponent and that creates confusion and uncertainty. I might be wrong, but the chopping and changing of the tactics hints at a lack of confidence in either himself, the players, or both and that could also affect how the team performs.
I disagree with some of the comments above and think we have brought in some good players. I think they're not being allowed to play to their strengths as Goodwin's tactics are holding them back or asking them to play a different way from what they are used to.
Unfortunately, I don't think that a simple change in the manager will solve our issues as the man upstairs is also culpable for where we are.
We need Ogren and Goodwin to go and be replaced by people who know what they're doing and who have confidence in what they and the players can do. If not, then the lack of ambition and poor quality football on show is here to stay for a while yet.

Out from me too, just too stubbornly sticking to his failing plan. Win ratio is terrible and recruitment has been poor, he's also not getting anywhere near enough out of some players who do have potential. He also sounds like a poor man manager by all accounts although obviously I have no first hand knowledge of this.

Out unless we see a marked improvement in the next few weeks.
Last season we were awful to watch BUT we got results. This season, we are awful to watch and don't get the results. More often than not, we are 'ok' against the bigger teams but have been awful against the smaller teams. It's his job to put a team out to beat all sides.
Also the team is his teams now. I was happy to cut him slack when he had the dregs of previous regimes. I believe the players are all reasonably capable but they arent being set up properly. If language is an issue, we need to find a solution but id suggest making the tactics simple to understand.
I don't think blame can be attributed to ogren - he gave him a budget which we are led to believe is the 5th or 6th biggest in the league - therefore, we should be able to expect to play like the 5th or 6th best team in the league. He has got his own staff. Everything is set uo for us to be fighting for the top half of the league
However time and time again, we fail to close out a game. Off the top of my head, rapid, rangers hearts hibs, we've been in winning positions and made a mess of it. Turning losses or draws into wins would see us a lot better off. Points wise and financially ie had we qualified for the league stage in Europe.
For me, in the next four games, he has to beat Spartans comfortably and in style
At least draw with aberdeen who are also in poor form, draw with falkirk and beat killie to show he has the ability to remain

My first post on the forum ![]()
It is a out for me, JG is far too stubborn to make changes to his formation that clearly is not working, and the stats this season do not lie. Whilst others have mentioned last year we were getting results and our defence was solid compared to the bomb scare showings this season. Saturday will just paper over the cracks with a win in the cup. However i do not think it will be an easy game. As Tangy mentioned the next 3 league games are pivotal in our season. In my opinion i see a point out of 9 and that will be the Aberdeen game. Falkirk are playing well and Killie always cause us problems.

Should be a third option. A dismissive flap of the hand whilst saying "Meh!"
I just don't care strongly enough either way right at this moment to commit, last season was brutal watching, but necessary, he's tried to do something different, but ultimately he doesn't trust or has realised the players he signed aren't up to it.
The problems we identified probably as far back as August are still there, the stubbornness to change and continue to play his way us costing us.
The fact we never looked at a centre half or striker in the window suggests he thinks those there are good enough.
All tactics, results, formations, signings etc etc it all ultimately falls on him, eventually he may pay the price.
However we don't know what size of budget he has, was he allowed to sign his own players, was money made available in January, is he punching with a hand tied behind his back?
So i'm on the fence a bit, I wouldn't cry if he was sacked, but for that to happen it's an embarrassing cup exit and a poor performance v Aberdeen that'll maybe decide it, so I want him to win these and hopefully kick on. How much pressure is he even under if any?
There's not been any significant rumblings at games yet.
I would absolutely be ok with him walking in the summer, thanks Jim, bye.
But my fear is sacking him now, we get a Kettlewell type joker in, goes on run of 4 wins ang gets a contract Gordon Chisholm style.
Second season is always difficult, top 6 probably gone so unless there's an outstanding candidate i'd be ok with backing him until we get 2-3 wins that probably puts us safe, what's there for a new guy to achieve from now to May?
I don't think either way I can support him next season, but, if he wins the cup..

For me he should have been punted after the Falkirk game. Horsed at home by essentially a Championship team. Him saying he didn't know where a performance like that comes from was the final straw. You're the manager so it ultimately comes from you.
Still putting in performances like that and he sounds like a broken record, except now there's the element of self preservation and he is throwing the players under the bus.
They take their portion of the blame but he never changes the way we approach games which is negative and completely anti-football.
So many games he has called selection/formation/tactics wrong and had to try and repair as the game goes on. That is completely unacceptable.

It doesn’t fall on him at all though does it? If we get relegated, it falls on us and the owner. The only price Goodwin has to pay is another sacking on his CV while he walks away with a year’s pay. We’re the ones that will have to pick up the pieces of yet another relegation.
I’ll say it now, if we get relegated again under Mark Ogren’s tenure, I will not put another penny into United until he’s gone. And I’d urge every other fan to do the same.
We’re not some vehicle for him the recoup the money he lost on a bad investment. That he was stupid enough to trust Asghar with his money despite a number of people telling him how untrustworthy he was, isn’t the fans problem.

Aye but in the context of Goodwin in or out it does, the owner, recruitment team, probably most of the players will get a free ride from a lot of the fans, only he loses his job.
Even in our last relegation, going into the split, I think 5 clear of bottom, loads blamed Goodwin, hardly a peep about the players, or owners who let it get to that stage, those players downed tools for 2 managers previously then contrived to lose all 5 games.
Yes Goodwin got things wrong but all those players were cunts.
It's just a big fucking unnecessary mess, i really would like to see the breakdown of how much the overseas players are costing us, they may be initially cheaper but it's fuck all value for money if they don't perform.
Still can't believe we never signed a goalie in the last window in 2023

I'm no fan of the obsession with a 3-4-3, nor would I deny that the players who've been brought in have massively underwhelmed, but I think the fundamental mistake has been the change in recruitment policy.
Recruitment for the Championship and the first year back up was good, focused on getting players with the right mindset -- Docherty, Gallagher, Holt, Moult. This season it's been terrible. I think many of these players have potential, and it's worth bearing in mind we've got one of the youngest squads in the division. But without the central spine of players with a winning mentality we've struggled, and confidence is shot to pieces.
I think he's tried to have a reset -- dropping Esselink and Iovu, bringing in Cleall-Harding and (now he's back from injury) Graham. But there aren't many winners around at the moment -- Ferry, Sevelj, Luca, Camara, maybe Sibbald, though he's always been a bit quieter than some of the rest. Two of them are unavailable, and we'll see how long Ferry sticks around.
I'm pretty pessimistic about the rest of the season. I'm not sure, though, who we could bring in who'd get a better tune out of this squad at the moment. I suppose they might at least drop the f**king 3-4-3.
It's weird that he's stuck with the 3-4-3 so long -- though I think it worked OK against Hibs. We had that dip mid-season in the Championship, and he saw things weren't working and made the change. So he's been capable of being flexible about things like this in the past.

Just saw his post match interview. Glads
Hes showing hes not happy but do wonder if its a last roll of the dice, rather than protecting the players and then trying to sort it internally

We always get worse after Christmas too si the signs are not great. He needs to win the next three games and no excuses or we start sliding towards that play off spot and the writing will be on the wall by the time we get to the split.

It's a narrow "In" for me.
I actually like Goodwin, I think in his post match interviews he's usually correct in his assessment of the game once you read between the lines of the usual media platitudes.
HOWEVER, I said a few weeks ago on here that it seems like with this formation he's adamant on playing that it's simply not possible to address the problems he points out whilst playing the way he wants with the standard of players we have.
If he wants to keep a clean sheet, the chances are it means we'll be eye wateringly bad too watch and draw 0-0 or lose 1-0. If we go for for more open play we tend to draw 2-2 or lose 3-2.
His stubbornness in this formation is what is tiring me, it's absolutely clear as day that we need at least 1 midfielder sitting in front of the defence and 3-4-3 simply doesn't allow it. I'm not buying that it's a personnel issue either, Sibbald can at the very least, do a decent effort in that area, and has done previously.
Goodwin NEEDS to change to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 to give some sort of stability in the middle of the park. I really think doing this simple change will at least change our fortunes somewhat.
If he doesn't, his own stubbornness will see him get the sack in 3 weeks time.

This. I’m kind of 50/50 with him. We looked such a good team at the start of the season but it’s this stubbornness with the formation. I guarantee, if the game is on tomorrow, it’ll be the same formation which is ridiculous.

This is me pretty much word for word. Brendan Rogers openly criticized the Celtic board for their lack of investment in the squad and within weeks got his jotters. So as much as I'd love JG to be vindicated by being open about what he's really working with budget wise (is it really as threadbare as some are saying?), I think he's too professional/loyal to do that, at least that's my read on it and I'm not going to go digging into the company accounts as it's way beyond my level of comprehension,. I think those are great traits to have in a leader/manager. I'm not for a second saying that I've been pleased with how the seasons has panned out. But for me it's an in for Jim and co for the time being.

The Goodwin In or Out debate becomes completely academic if we lose tomorrow.
Lose to Spartans at Tannadice and it's the worst result in our history.
There could only be one outcome after that and any defence of Goodwin becomes futile.
Tomorrow is a huge match for the club, the players, the supporters, but it's also a huge match for Jim Goodwin. Feels like a 'sliding doors' moment in his managerial career.

I can see both sides of the argument here but what I will say after watching some of the Dundee v Celtic game today then the highlights on Sportscene is that we are so far behind the performance that the wee team put in today that I’m genuinely starting to worry.
When you look back to the start of the season we had I thought I can’t wait to see this team when they have gelled but it’s just not happening.
The stats’s don’t lie it’s just not good enough and the worst thing is I can’t see it getting any better.

I can't even laugh at Dundee tonight because truth be told they looked miles better than us. They played great football in the 90 and played Celtic off the park.
They have some right good players (Hamilton, Congreve, Halliday, Graham, Yogane) and they have consistently improved as the season has progressed.
We on the other hand have regressed. Massively.
The next derby at Dens could be a painful afternoon.

So, cup draw in 10 or so minutes.
We get a favourable draw, Partick or Pars at home, should we see off Spatans and then regardless of how we feel, we're favourites to make the semis, and as we've seen Celtic haven't turned up for their last 2 finals and lost them, so you never know.
Or, if it's us or Spartans away to Celtic, where we do our usual, would those that want Goodwin out take a Spartans win to force the clubs hand, right now?
I'm not saying folk actively want us to lose, but given the lack of noise from the club, even the fans at games, I just don't think he's being put under any pressure, but a result like that sees him gone or at least decided he won't be at the helm next season.
And if he is gone, what can a new man achieve? Top 6 likely gone, big overhaul of players coming in.
Fuck knows, I never want us to lose but it feels certainly on online mediums there's a groundswell of opinion he should be gone or moving in the summer, if it's gonna happen would it be better now and let a new guy plan for August, would it be a gamble like when Goodwin came in? Albeit I think we've enough points and will pick up enough to be safe whoever is in charge.

As shite as it feels just now, the whole draw should be a great incentive to these players and manager. Fingers oot, concentration levels improved, and you never know.
