I know the weather can just beat you and there’s not much you can do about it. But that pitch is a disgrace, and who is driving on top of a problem area of the pitch?

Borders on negligence. Ogren will be a bit annoyed in a few weeks when he checks in on what’s going on.

Are those tracks not from some kind of device being utilised to try to clear the pitch? I'm genuinely asking cos I've got no clue, but I can't imagine folk are just doing it for shits and giggles. The pitch wasn't great last time out,I'm not really sure what kind of repair could be done in a week with that kind of weather, but please someone enlighten me if you know more about such matters.

Ill just add that those tracks do not look deep enough to me for it to be from a vehicle, more likely a supersopper or something in my opinion

Couple of years ago we had torrential rain. Storm after storm and floods everywhere.

How many games were called off at Tannadice at that time? I don't remember any.
When has our pitch ever resembled anything like that picture?

There's been a huge amount of rain for weeks, have you seen some of the images from around the UK of the flooding? We are not the only premiership team having the same problem. The pitch is made of grass and mud, what's the best thats gonna happen realistically? I dont live in Dundee so can't testify to how bad it was a couple of years ago but I'll wager there were breaks in the weather that there haven't been this time around.  None of us are happy right now and there's a lot of things not being done properly but Dundee United cannot stop the rain from falling.

Correct. There might have been heavier storms a few years ago, but I don’t think there’s ever been rain this persistent over the best part of a month that I can recall. It very literally hasn’t stopped raining in weeks.

Neglect of what? What do you think would help with the pitch? I'm no groundsman so perhaps you know more than me? Is it just a simple case of poor drainage or not covering the pitch sufficiently? Surely there has to be a reason our groundsman hasn't been able to cope. But like I said there are other premiership teams having the same problem, are they being neglected too?

The neglect is there clear to see, Have another look at the photo, do you think it's good enough?
Like I said a couple of years ago with more rain the pitch was fine.
Couldn't give less of a shite about other teams.

Did you miss the bit where I said I'm no groundsman? Tell me what you mean by neglect?

Nah had enough of responding to your disingenuous questions.
If you can't figure it out by looking at a photo yourself then that's your problem.

Re: Fed Up

Amazed that some are trying to defend that pitch.

The pitch can be flooded, yes. That is natural in such weather.

But it looks like we've held a massive pop concert on it.

It's ripped up to fuck and an utter mud bath. It looks in huge disrepair.

Of course negligence has happened. We can all see with our own eyes the state of it, and driving machinery over it is mindboggling.

I wouldn't say I've defended it myself. I've simply asked for someone with better knowledge of groundsmanship to explain how the pitch we played on last weekend could have been repaired in anyway under a constant barrage of rain? Simply covering it isn't going to get the grass to grow back in a week is it? As for the tracks, I'll say for the third time tonight,  how fo we know that it's actually been driven on? You can push things which will leave tyre tracks too and if we are trying to remove water from the pitch then it's likely some kind of machinery designed for exactly that. I hardly think folk have just been allowed to drive round the pitch for a laugh. I do think some folk are trying to beat the club with a stick at every turn but the game being off is likely doing United more financial damage so I'm certain they will have been trying everything to get it played. I've also pointed out that other premiership clubs have had the same problem but of course the previous poster couldn't give a shite about that fact. I genuinely asked for someone better informed to give some advice on what's gone wrong and what would have been done better? Because as I've also repeatedly said,I'm no groundsman.

Re: Fed Up

The weather in the north east has been crazy. I genuinely cant think when its ever been this bad for this long. Don't know about dundee but aberdeen hasnt had a break in snow/rain this year, its cold so grass wont grow and even if it did, we are 3 weeks where theres been no sunshine.

If Pittodrie Pittodrie dens were looking great, I'd be more inclined to have a go

The pitch is pretty bad but the hearts game also had a massive effect on it. Also pitch at the start of the season was perfect from memory and not long since it was re laid, if memory serves me right.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Nor am i.

But i've spoken to two tonight on Twitter. Both in agreement that the pitch isn't being looked after at all right and cited a main cause that the grass has been cut far too short, which has led to it not being able to handle such amounts of water and why we've lost so much grass over various parts of the pitch.

A partial returf in areas is going to be needed now for any football to be played there anytime soon. And normally that new turf needs bedded in for a period also (3-6 weeks). Or it can quickly cut up.

This is an utter shambles and the club need to make a statement if/when the Aberdeen match gets called off to inform the fans what the club intend to do about it.

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation as I'd genuinely never have understood that could be the reason.

Not sure what the weather’s been like on the west coast recently, but the state of the pitch is entirely believable given the weather we’ve had here for the past few weeks. I can’t remember the last time I seen sunlight, or even a few hours where it didn’t rain.

I’m as scunnered with United as anyone, but there’s not much any club can do about the weather we’ve been having. You can’t keep covers on the pitch 24/7, the pitch would be 10x worse than it currently is if we did.

I don’t know what their plan is with it though, that pitch is gonna be an absolute mess for the rest of the season.

Forfar seem to have gotten their game on somehow. Only 14 miles from Dundee.

I'm not suggesting the rain hasn't impacted the pitch btw. Of course it has.

But to see it in the complete shambles it's in looks like utter incompetence and mismanagement.

Yeah, on a plastic pitch…

It might look like a shambles to the SFA and the SPFL who are based 90 miles away. Now I’m no expert on turf management, but anyone that’s stayed in the North East over the past two weeks will tell you there’s next to nothing the club can do about the state of the pitch at the moment. I’ve never known rain as persistent as this, and it doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon.

Exactly this and to even suggest incompetence is ridiculous. Aberdeen has had a game postponed and even the Dee with our ex groundsman , who btw kept Tannadice in fantastic shape last season, have had a game cancelled. The weather has been relentless for the last fortnight and looks likely to be terrible this week as well.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they have dragged a trailer with all the rain covers over the pitch as opposed to using the paths at the edge of the pitch.
When you watch the ground staff at halftime the young lads spend more time looking at there phones or looking for there mates in the stands than trying to sort the divots on the pitch.

Great statement from St.Johnstone's Chairman outlining what the problems are with their pitch and what they are doing and intend to do about it.

Meanwhile continued radio silence from Ogren or indeed anyone at Tannadice with authority.

I wish we'd got a result at Easter Road. The conclusion of that match was a kick in the baz and has left our support in a foul mood in the midst of The Great Deluge.

Yeah, totally. It's funny how much of the narrative changes if we win that game. We'd still talking about fight for top six (even if that felt like a bit of a long shot), we'd have broken a bad league run, and we'd be more inclined to believe that we have a team that are looking to get as much as they can out of games before the split.

Instead I got to celebrate at Easter Road for a grand total of eight minutes.

A partial re-lay is what it will need if the rain continues.

Given the turf needs time to bed in, everyday we don't do that is a day wasted.

Yeah will need to wait until after the Celtic game where we don’t have a home game for a few weeks

Just catching up now with the news about the rescheduled Aberdeen and St.Mirren dates.

Jesus H Christ. The SPFL really are determined to offer us no help or leeway at all 🤦🏻

There will be no other date to play Spartans now should next Tuesday not make it.

I think we need to consider options now for moving it to another ground 😔
