Has anyone checked if he’s Richard Odada in disguise?

What a stupid remark, would you say that if we signed a white player?

Re: Winter Deadline Day Thread

Okay, I’m gonna call bullshit on him being 21 😂 hopefully he’s capable of playing by a forward pass.

I’d probably make a similar comment if we’d signed a player in a similar position.

The similarity reference was nothing to do with race but based on Richard Odada (Kenyan International) came in with potential which alas he did not live up to and is no longer with the club.

Not every thing is about racial discrimination. It was due to a previous poster hoping that our new signing lives upto the potential and has a successful career at the club.

Re: Winter Deadline Day Thread

Not upset about getting more quality in a position that's a bit of a problem, but would've preferred (on paper)  a guy ready to hit the ground running.

Would've preferred ahead of that, someone to put the ball in the net.

Looking at Wikipedia Pappoe played for the same team in Israel as him, I wonder if he gave us a pointer?

Re: Winter Deadline Day Thread

I just hope he's good and adaptable to our game.  January signings dont tend to work out for us as a rule, although the new Keeper looks decent I guess.

Noticed United didn't announce how long his contract length was.

I'm wondering if it's only till the seasons end.

Sapsford, Dolcek,Watters, Moller,Stirton, Fatah, Trapanovski.  We have enough forward players but the way Jim sets us up it wouldn't matter if we added another 3 strikers.

Re: Winter Deadline Day Thread

Just thinking out loud here...

Most of us would've looked at Falkirk and Motherwell and not trying to be disrespectful, we would turned our nose up at quite a few/most of their players as we were recruiting,  but what they both are, are a unit, a team, not a collection of rag tag individuals signed in the hope they'll get us a transfer fee down the line, with managers who aren't afraid to lose from the first whistle.

Motherwell's squad is mostly from these shore's sprinkled with some foreign talent, Falkirk's is entirely Scots and English, we have two Scots, Sibbald and Graham, SCH and Stirton i'm not including because had our signings paid off, they'd both be nowhere near the squad unless required as some sort of quota.

Could we have looked around our league, the championship, lower level English, Irish leagues and done any worse than the contributions thus far from Essenlink, Eskenen, Keresztes, Trapanovski, Moller, Kucherenko, Dolcek, Fatah, Naamo, Iovu, Watters?

Maybe harsh on a couple, but that's not to suggest whoever played instead wouldn't score a goal, make a save, do a block.

Our squad should be a core of home grown guys who'll stay 3,4,5 years with a foreign player here and there, that bit of flair or quality we can't maybe get here.

Yet we've brought in a Ghanian and a New Zealander thus far, the pattern looks like it's gonna repeat.

Ultimately I don't care where players are from, if they're delivering, but if we're honest we're probably about where most of us feared, plodding along, a rag tag bunch with no real identity, style of play and the season is gonna be one big wet fart.

Sapsford, Camara, Sevelj, those three, fit and on form that's something to build around, a base, Stephenson i'd include but he'll never be our player.

Big changes ahead in the summer another big turn around in staff, maybe it's time for the coaching staff to start taking in games, rather than doing a football version of a Pokèmon hunt.

3 of them are wingers and a 4th plays regularly on the wing.

Moller - 1 goal
Stirton - 1 goal (last August)
Watters - 4 goals (no goals since last August)
Sapsford - 8 goals

Only Sapsford is someone who has done reasonably well, and he's better on the wing.

We badly, badly needed a target man. None of our other Strikers offer us a different option or way to play.

Re: Winter Deadline Day Thread

Good post by DB thinking out loud.
Some very valid points, hope the Goodwins read it. (You might be surprised).
There were only 4 of our 14 worldwide summer signings in the starting XI on Saturday night.
When we were on our Euro cup run (!) you would have thought that 4 would have been 11.
It has not worked out and now it's a case of getting rid then having another go at assembling a squad a la Falkirk & M'well as DB points out.

I don’t think they trust their own recruitment, hence the short term deals for this guy and the keeper. They’re punts.

I’m not so sure it’s anything to do with the players we have, more to do with how they are deployed.

Let me summarise.  Shaik said something that could be construed as racist.  ADS called him out on it.  Shaik protests his innocence.  ADS isnae so sure - don't think that's necessarily shocking in the circumstances.  I'd put Shaik's post down to a bit of unconscious bias and given the banter nature of a footie board, I'd be giving Shaik the benefit of the doubt and hope that he'd realised that his comment could be construed adversely and that he'd think twice before making a similar unintended error of judgement.

Not sure what you are getting at Conway?  I'm assuming not racist apology?

Re: Winter Deadline Day Thread

Not our transfer news but might cool the beans on here.
James Wilson of Hearts has gone down to Spurs til the end of the season.
He's 18 and may get the occasional game for their U/21s, maybe not.
Despite being a Scottish cap, OMG.
He wasn't on the bench on Saturday night, must have been protecting him.
He might get to see bits of London anyway.

Fair play to Hearts here I think.  He's not going to get much of a game this season and there is no reserve/youth league up here which is going to improve him.  Presumably the lad thinks he'd be better doing that too.

Yeah, fair do's Fin.
Just that on the radio this morning they had him getting a chance with the 1st team.
I guess I'm just perturbed he's a full Scotland cap. It wasn't always that easy.
