Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

Some really really poor decision making, do these players practise passing the ball to each other in training at all? Honestly depressed at how little quality we have. I can seriously see us going out of yet another cup at the first hurdle.

No cohesion, no fluidity, no plan, just thrown together and hope for the best.
Decision making as ADS says is woeful, especially in the final third.

Make no mistake this set of football players are not getting coached in how to create chances from midfield. Christ almighty we can barely keep the ball for 3 passes.

Much better second half from United. The substitutions challenged their shape and stretched them.
Delighted for Moller and Camara.

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

Missed the last 20 minutes because the stream went off and replaced our game with a completely different one.  Wish that could happen more often tbh 🤣
Glad to get the win and get through but we were absolutely shite in that 1st half yet again, wtf is it that makes us so bloody lethargic?

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

Take it all day

Terrible game, thought we were poor again, we have ZERO movement off the ball, ZERO urgency to do anything

SCH was outstanding, him and Graham terrific together, KK needs a rocket up his arse-lackadaisical to the extreme, Naamo the same- brilliant from strain for first goal

Baffled to what has happened with Watters- really really poor again

Signings needed badly

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

A well deserved victory, with a two goal margin probably about correct.
Graham & SCH played well restricting Ayr to virtually nothing throughout the 90m.
Sapsford had a shocker and was rightly replaced at HT.
On to the next round

Announced the crowd as over 7k, to much hilarity.

Then corrected it to about 4.5k

Think this time though it was possibly passed onto him in error or he read it wrong.

That boy that brings his guide dog could tell you there wasn’t even near 7k there.

That lands on your desk you’re questioning it.

That, Viennagate (and his actions online and not even apologising) is just the start with him

We need a change there, inject a bit of life into the stadium

Yeah I just can enjoy the fact that we are in the next round of the cup because the announcer gave out the wrong crowd.

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

It must be bad that the dh is getting it in the neck. Sheesh.
Poor first half for both teams although I never felt like they were taking the lead. Second, made some big decisions - sapsford off on 45 and 4 subs at once - which all changed the game.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

Wasn't great fare, but our first win of what has been a brutal year so far.

A win, clean sheet a couple of goals and in the hat. We'll take it.

I'd definitely hang fire on sending Stirton to Airdrie. He's definitely offering more than Watters (who was anonymous once again). Unless of course, we sign a Striker (doubtful).

I thought Stirton was very bright when he came on.
He looked nippy and sharp and his positioning and movement definitely caused Ayr problems.
Contrast that with Watters who looked the opposite, never skipped his marker, never in space, never looked like creating or scoring.
In fact there was 2 occasions where Watters didn't even attempt to jump for a bouncing ball right in front of him. Honestly we should say thanks and send him south.

In the hat, job done, no Hearts or Hibs but Spartans could be lying in wait.

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

Thought a lot of the gehm was average esp. the 1st half. Fir the 1st 5 mins, we could hardly get the ba inta their half,

There was a point in the 1st half when we had the ba in Ayr's box. It got passed between 4 oe oor players. Eventually it got cleared oot the box and it went oot to Stephenson who had a shot that was aff-target. And abody roond sayed how did nane or the players in box no hae a shot. Now that's been going nn all Season. If ye dinna shoot, ye canna score.

It was proven when the changes were made in the 2nd half. They definitely made ah the difference. Moeller, who's been criticized ah Season (me included) was just in the right spot, he takes a wee punt and in she goes.

What exactly happened we Fatah and the boyo that went inta the hoardings. Did he kick oot at Fatah when he was on the deck?

MOTM fir me Ferry.

Seemed to me that Holt took issue with Fatah and it kicked off from there. Bit of a fuss over nothing.

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

First half wasn’t good again and the subbies made a difference but the Ayr players were knackered  after 70 mins which definitely helped.

Given that a defeat would have been Meltdown Central I'll take any old win.
We used 16 players and in the end the squad won the day.
Credit to Jim, there was a heap of pressure on the game.

Totally agree with this. The heat from the inevitable meltdown would have been something else.

Re: DUFC vs AUFC - Scottish Cup 4th Round - Saturday 17/1/26

Given United appear to only do anything useful for half a football match, I’ve pretty much resigned myself to sitting on the exercise bike for 60 minutes. That way, no matter the outcome, at least something good has happened in that timeframe.

I don’t like posting about tactics because I’m neither a coach nor a master tactician, although I am prone to using an iPad from time to time. When we go with a back three and midfielders like Sibbald or Stephenson, the benefit I understand is the ability to drop into a back five.

The issue seems to be that when we’re in possession, we’re also dropping into a back five. One of Sibbald or Stephenson ends up dropping as deep as the back line, who are already very deep, just to make a pass, which any of the back three are more than capable of playing. We’re then looking for Amor Fata or another winger to drop and spin, but there’s nobody left in midfield.

The Stephenson “quarterback” role—dropping in behind the midfield to dictate play—is only really useful if you have a player with exceptional passing ability. I don’t think anyone watching that display would label us as an exceptional passing team.

Max Watters was diabolical again yesterday. What use is a target man who can’t time his runs, can’t hold the ball up, and seems unable to bring others into play? It would honestly be better for the team to remove that option entirely.

That said, we were solid defensively at home against a Championship team, and the second half looked much better and far more exciting to watch. The Ryan Strain cameo was promising.

Is it really necessary to be that fearful? We don’t get up the park quickly enough, there’s nobody left forward, and there has to be more confidence to play our way out. Surely that’s the only way a system like this works?
