Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but our long term poster Ian Christie (Leedsy) passed away after a long illness on Saturday 10th January.
Many people will know of him not just from on here, but also of course from Utd Mad where he previously posted for some years.
He was an 'old school' type of guy who many perhaps disagreed with on certain political points, but from my experience of the man and speaking to him many times in private on here, I found him to be a kind, interesting man who seemed somewhat lonely in his twilight years, and shared with me some terrific stories of his younger days and following Utd during the Jerry Kerr years and the early days of Jim McLean's tenure.
I will share one such story later (if I can find the DM) of a huge run in he had with Jim McLean himself deep inside the bowels of Tannadice.
He often told me he liked this Forum because it kept him in the loop about United and it made him feel closer to home somehow. He had lived in England for many years, but told me he still felt homesick at times.
RIP Ian
P.s. thank you to LAO for sharing this information.

I'm not sure I remember Leedsy, but it would be good to share the story you mention Tek as a tribute to another good Arab. RIP

RIP Leedsy. Sign of us all getting older sadly. I was at school with his son, Zane so I messaged him the link to this thread and he pm'd me earlier to say he is grateful for the tribute and posts in condolences.

Didn't know him personally but always sad to lose a good Arab, especially this time of year.
R.I.P Leedsy, may they play beautiful football up there!

Old Leedsy. Och away. Hadn't spoken to him for a good while. Remember having a topical "discussion" with him about a certain flag, must be about 10 year ago, but we were all pals in the end.
Arabest in the Top Tier.

Sad to hear this, one of the first posters I remember when I started reading and posting on Mad almost 20 years ago. Remember thinking this place must be reputable when I saw he was in here also ![]()
RIP Leedsy, you'll be missed! 🧡

I think, like myself, a few people may be shocked about this guys background after reading the bit about him in the Courier.

I got sent the article last night. I was massively shocked, had no idea about any of that. My only dealings with him on here were him telling me about his ill health and of him looking after his Wife who also kept unwell. That and old United stories.
No idea why his death was deemed 'news' btw. Despite his let's say 'murky past' that article seemed a hatchet job and not exactly relevant to local news in the here and now. It's not like he was a public figure or it was in the public interest.
Not a nice read for his family, but that's journalists for you.

Some not so nice stuff’s come out on the courier about the guy. I’m no purple haired woke activist myself, but sounds like he was into some dark, extreme stuff.

I wouldn't think you'd need to be a purple haired woke activist to condemn racism and klu klux clan membership though. Of course I have no idea about any of the facts but obviously it does kinda change my viewpoint of the guy if true.

‘some not so nice stuff’ is quite the phrase.

Locking this thread.
Was put up in innocence and with good intentions.
No good can come of keeping it open. I'm sure his Son and family are well aware of his past and don't need that stuff dredged up considering they'll be grieving.
