Re: January Transfer Window

Scott Bain only signed a one year deal at Falkirk.

I'd be trying to get him on a Pre-contract now, with a view to the Summer.

Suspect that Watters going back to Barnsley is the other option to release a loan space.  At least we've got to be letting KKs agent know that he isn't the only show in town on that front!   Clearly we are stuck with Pappoe for now.  The only other loanee who may be surplus to requirements is Dolcek, but I'd definitely keep him if we can get him back on early season form.
New first choice keeper and a different option centre forward and I'm happy.  Walton and Dalby...?

dalby getting minutes at bolton, sometimes starting, sometimes sub. and they are doing well in league one so i dont think he is going anywhere soon.

The ellipsis was intended to indicate that I wasn't really being serious.  Those are the types of players we need though.  Dalby would have done well in this team.  Walton's understated competence also, although I wonder if he would have fared so well in front of the current CHs.  We can slag off big Declan for his mobility but he headered everything in the air.  This season's offering are far from that level of aerial dominance and Walton wasn't really that good at coming for crosses either.

Armin Pecsi? He has it in his contract that he can't be loaned out in his first season at Liverpool.

https://www.hungarianconservative.com/articles/culture_society/liverpool-armin-pecsi-hungarian-goalkeeper-transfer/

Looks too skinny anyway for a rough and tumble league to me.

Just putting what I have been told on here, united have asked the question only the clubs officials know what’s in players contracts and what can be done but he’s on the radar,  united see Dave Richard’s as number 1 now for at least the rest of the season so are only looking to bring in a good backup before a long term keeper is found in the summer

I would prefer a zander Clark or even a short term free agent with experience because let’s face it if Richard’s gets injured we would be in real hot water with Adam’s as number 1 and Haldane as back up,  not that they aren’t good enough but we need experience and confidence.

If that’s true about Richards being regarded as number 1, then they’ve learned nothing from the last relegation. I don’t think we’ll get relegated, Livingston are too poor to stay up, but if we don’t get a keeper in January, then Richards is gonna continue to drop points with the way he spills shots.

It’s very clear to see why he’s been a number 2 most of his career.

While we won’t finish 12th nor probably 11th, we won’t make the top 6 having him in goals for the next 5 months.

Poor stuff if true.

Same.

10 days in and not even a whisper of a potential signing.

Falkirk literally announced that 15 minutes after my post lol.

Oh well. Good business for the Bairns. Sometimes i'm slightly envious that other clubs seem to make recruitment seem easy and straightforward

Telling no Bert or Dolcek in squad today

Could be the last we see of them

Re: January Transfer Window

Why would we start Stirton at Celtic park if he is getting loaned?

Big test for him today. Would suggest he is maybe going to get a run as no1 striker unless everyone else is injured.

Re: January Transfer Window

I think we should be eyeing up our next manager for the summer.

I’m not that fussed about changing it now, cause we’re not gonna accomplish anything of note this season. Goodwin will just about suffice till the end of the season.

He has served his purpose, and on the whole has done a very good job, but I think it’s ran its course now, I’m not prepared to watch another season of his negative, reactionary anti-football, and the half a dozen changes he makes every week.

I think he had an idea of creating a strong, quick, powerful team this season, but his recruitment has been too scattergun, and 2/3’s of the players he brought in aren’t of the required standard. I said at the time that I thought it was madness to go foreign with every single signing, and it’s proved correct.

We lack leadership and we seriously lack an identity. Watching us this season, I don’t see a discernible style of play, it changes entirely depending on the opponent, and other than Livingston the other week, I’ve not seen us set up to try and control a game of football and be the protagonist in a game. It’s all just based around stifling the opponent. I’m sick of it tbh.

We need a progressive manager in next, hopefully the other Goodwin is looking at candidates, but I doubt it, I think we lack direction at the very top. The chairman will just be happy to plod along with Goodwin as long as we’re not in any real danger of being relegated. I seriously hope someone like Matthew Benham revives his interest in the near future, cause Ogren’s own interest has waned.

If we had a long hard look at the club, we could probably add even more to that.

Completely agree. I’d be planning for next season without Goodwin. The minute we exit the cup, I’d tell him to plan his next move too,

If he can’t provide us with the team we need, find someone who will

Re: January Transfer Window

If there were such a thing as an honorable discharge in football, I think Jim has earned one. Agree that it's less the result and more the abject lack of ambition. I also was of the opinion that we set up to play like a 3rd division team going to parkhead in the cup. When a team is playing below the sum of it's parts, that's a problem. You know that Celtic are comfortable as can be when they bring on young scottish players and Forrest for his 15 minute cameo. I think what irks me the most is watching charlatans like Scales sitting 20 yards into our half dictating play and picking passes with no pressure on him at all. I did note Sapsford waving for the defence to move up on one or two occasions, but they wouldn't. They're scared and bereft of belief and they certainly don't look like a team or collective. At least that's my perspective. Would John McGlyn fancy it? probably not.

Good post JD.

I personally however would get rid of Goodwin now.

I would like the new man to have a few months to bed himself in and suss out the squad and decide who he wants to keep and bin before yet another big Summer rebuild. Also, to get over his style of play and philosophy so we're ready to hit the ground running in what will doubtless be League Cup Group Stage football in the Summer.

I'd like to see us go for Stephen Bradley of Shamrock Rovers. He's won multiple leagues and Cups in Ireland, including group stage European football where they competed well above the size of their club.

Shamrock are currently in their Pre-Season. Ideal time to go and get him.
