Closed doors game

A 2-0 defeat to 2nd bottom of the Championship Ross County (who presumably didn't play their strongest XI).

Normally i wouldn't put much substance to a result like that, but Utd's Academy team was playing in Kilmarnock, so that had to be a pretty strong Utd side. I'm guessing Richards, Graham, Cleall-Harding, Beattie, Eskesen, Watters, Stirton all played.

Slightly worrying that our back-up players are losing that tbh.

Re: Closed doors game

I’d like to know who was in goal.

Id imagine they’ll have been full strength, had no game at weekend

Very much doubt that SM.

Probably what we played i.e. first team fringe players and players coming back from injury.

Why would they risk Ronan Hale etc for a bounce game?

Re: Closed doors game

Taken from the courier...

"With the encounter organised to benefit Graham and Watters, while offering affording some action to some United players who have been on the fringes, the Tangerines fielded a much-changed XI.

County saw their most recent league game cancelled at the eleventh hour, last Friday at Queen’s Park, so fielded a strong side in Tayside.

And Tony Docherty’s Staggies won the game 2-0 – albeit emerging with a clean bill of health and match fitness in the tank will be the main priority for Goodwin."

And it was an opportunity for the aforementioned players i spoke of above to try and impress and stake a claim for a starting jersey.

I fail to see how anybody can't be a bit disappointed in that. I'm not on about Graham and Watters so much btw, i'm talking about the other players who are 100% fit and could have used it as the opportunity i described.

No-one can stake a rightful claim for a jersey after a result like that.

Re: Closed doors game

Why is it we are nit-picking re the starting XI in a closed door friendly?
It's because we have no clue re who's who.
Three or four decades ago I could have rattled off the Dundee united RESERVE side.
Many Friday nights were filled with sitting in the Jerry Kerr watching and supporting competitive football.
Now there's nothing, it is probably three or four decades since there was anything.
How many 90 mins has Sam Cleall-Harding had this season? I would guess 90 mins aggregate. If that.
So it evolves into guessing the lineup in a specially arranged Tuesday afternoon 'bounce' game.
The emerging and fringe players on our heavy squad must wonder where their next game is coming from.
Neither the U/18s or the 'B' Team hack it, monthly midweek day games & evening games as far away as Inverness ain't the answer.
More games outwith the 1st XI please, it's doing the standard of Scottish football no good.
