Elgin vs Utd B

Later tonight in the latest Challenge Cup group match.

Be interesting to see if any fringe men play to get minutes (Odada, Harding, Thomson, Constable, O'Donnell).

Richard Odada in particular seems to have went awol.

Re: Elgin vs Utd B

So the SCOTTISH LEAGUE CHALLENGE CUP
There are 10 Prem Reserve teams out tonite but only one of them favourites, Sevco.
All the Prem reserves are away from home.
You're getting the likes of 5/1 for Hearts reserves to win at Dumbarton.
Aberdeen reserves 11/1 at ICT.
St Mirren reserves 24/5 to win at Alloa.

Interestingly they're not actually called reserves, they're calling themselves U/21 or 'B' teams.
We're a 'B' team along with Celtic, M'well & Killie.
The other 6 teams are calling themselves U/21, Sevco, Fun, Hibs, Hearts, St Mirren, Aberdeen.
Not sure why, did we & 3 others want to play players over 21? The other 6 insisted on fielding an U/21 team?
Elgin who we play tonite lost 4-1 at home to ICT in the first set of matches.

Moral of the story, if you have a spare tenner win £23 from Wm Hill by backing us.
Sorry if boring but there's not much else going on & very quiet at work.

Re: Elgin vs Utd B

Aw well 8 of the 10 reserve sides lost, you've got to hand it to the bookies.
You win nothing with kids.

Aye, he would say that Redford, sorry.
We beat Stirling Albion 3-0 a fortnight ago.
They go & beat Hibs U/21 3-1 last night.
You were getting near 4/1 for us last night to beat Elgin who haven't kicked a ba' all season.
But the bookies ken ye ken.

Re: Elgin vs Utd B

Looking at the stats from the game last night, we had 55% possession, 4 efforts on goal, 1 on target.

Elgin had 22 efforts on goal.

I guess they weren't employing high possession, keep the ball and do fuck all with it, pass it sideways loads, type of tactics.

They'll feel really silly when boys with clipboards tell them as they look forward to the next round, they're not playing the game the right way.

Jokes on them.

This is why the Academy lost it's way and we ended up producing about 15 midfielders who all looked the same.
I'd like to think we've learned our lesson. Time will tell.

This was a team full of kids wasn't it? What's the big deal? Would Elgin have 22 efforts on goal against our first team? I seriously doubt it. A big fuss about nothing and just another excuse to moan.

I hope Brian Grant reads this David.
If that's what we're teaching them then it's no use.
Hope Jim G looks in too.

No they wouldn't but you'd expect a team with more possession to have more efforts on target/on goal, that all i'm saying.

It wasn't a dig at the kids more so a dig at how the fundamentals of the game have been forgotten, kick the ball towards the opposition goal.

So you'd prefer long ball stuff? Because that style belongs in the lower leagues if you ask me. Last night being the perfect example,as well as the obvious advantage a team of grown men has against a bunch of kids.

No not long ball, just do more in possession, take a chance, have a dip.

Hardly a fuss, not even a moan, just a observation based on stats and my general lack of enthusiasm for a game we grew up with and loved, that seems to have evolved into a long drawn out, boring game of tactical chess.

The world is going to shite, at least give us something to be excited about* on a Saturday or whatever time/day kick off is these days.

It' the middle of the week, no beers until Friday and I'm having to spend her time with her family tomorrow, i'm just sounding off.

*I accept it does look like our signings this season look like we'll be far more attacking, but injuries are forcing a different plan.

Fair enough, I get your point. Best of luck tomorrow 🤣🤣
