Graham - hamstring injury, had operation, out until end of October (approximately)

Van der Sande - calf injury, time-scale unknown

Nammo - injury unknown, 50/50’for next week

Re: Injuries

Watters, Strain and Naamo all on the plane. Might mean nothing as Graham there too I think along with Kai. No sign of Jort or Fatah, though. Video posted on United's Twitter.

Re: Injuries

So, Strain and Trapanovski joining Graham in being out for months with a recurring hamstring injury.

Seriously, how can this not be some sort of on-going issue at the club? This is not normal.

Are they being ran too hard? Are our medical team or fitness guys not managing them correctly?

On that last point. Wtaf is Ross Graham flying to Austria on crutches after a recent operation? Madness our medical team have 'okay'ed' that?

Small point - strain got himself injured in a tackle during the first 5 minutes of the Strassen home game. Happened right in front of me. He was clearly not moving right from that point on. So would say that one is down to stupidity from him and the management team/necessity. Not training.

Re: Injuries

Welcome to the injury thread Isaac Pappoe.

Ffs August the 7th and our injury list is as long as a Jeffrey Epstein kindergarten party.

A serious concern for the season ahead.

Edit to add, Naamo not even on the bench tonight.

BTW Sam Dalby has missed all of Boltons pre-season games due to.... you guessed it...... a hamstring problem.

Re: Injuries

Have we ever had so many 1st team players out at once? I cant think of a worse time certainly not after playing 1 league game

Re: Injuries

What is going on with Dario Naamo? Didn't look that bad an injury against Oldham and we heard he took part in training in Vienna.

Nowhere to be seen today. Thought he'd have been back long before now.

We need to be wrapping him in ice and cotton wool because we are fucked otherwise, needs to be back for the derby.

Re: Injuries

There is no way all these hamstring injury's can all be coincidence.

Is Goodwin running them too hard in training?

I mentioned this before. Remember Spurs last year having a horrific injury list and one staff member commented about Postecoglu’s philosophy of train as hard as you play being a reason for it. Fast forward a year to a video clip of Goodwin telling the players this will be the hardest preseason they’ve ever done.

4-5 weeks later and here we are with hamstrings pinging all over the place.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

I did a bit of cursory research on this and there was a study (Elite Club Injury Study) comprising of 3909 players from 54 teams covering 20 European countries. The study commenced in 2001 and concluded in 2023.

The main finding was that hamstring injuries (as a percentage of all injuries) doubled during the 21 year period.

61% of injuries occur when a player is running or sprinting.

As expected, the number of games played contributed to some extent (particularly those played during the summer break, but another issue appeared to be coaches unwillingness to embrace techniques from other sports. In particular the “Nordic” hamstring exercise used by sprinters has proved successful in reducing injuries to top sprinters.

Part of me thinks, with a small squad, it might be worth getting an experienced (American) sprints coach in as a consultant to not only look at techniques for preventing injuries, but, also each players running techniques. In some cases you can increase someone’s speed by altering: stride pattern, knee lift or position of torso relative to the hips.

The one size fits all approach doesn’t work.
