United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

What XI and formation for Sunday?

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

Whatever XI are fit, with no knocks, take no real chances for Thursday.

Genuinely not got a scooby what team will be, would probably give a run out to SCH, stirton, Thomson and fotheringham

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

This is a hard choice as on one hand we need to make sure we are a top six premier league team which means winning our home games so we need our best available team on the park and then there is Thursday night and we’re all desperate for European nights to continue so we need our best available team on the park.
Play your best team.

Not for me. Very rarely would I say that, but I want to see some changes. We have boys waiting in the wings who have made enough appearances for us in the top flight that we need to be able to rely on them.

If we can get through next Thursday, we are one tie away from netting around £4m which would be transformational for the club.

My team would be:

Kucherenko

Cleall-Harding
Esselink
Keresztes

Thomson
Camara
Sibbald
O'Donnell
Dolcek

Fotheringham
Stirton

That would be my 11. It won't happen, but it would be what I'd play. I also think it probably means we lose, but we could play our strongest 11 and still lose as we are running on empty a little bit. It would cause a further knock-on effect for Thursday, which could end up going 120 mins.

It means that we give rests to:

Sevelj
Iovu
Watters
Sapsford

Ferry already suspended, so we can go in to Thursday with 5 players who didn't have to play the full 90 on Sunday.

Most will disagree, but I'd be ok seeing big changes on Sunday.

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

In the eyes of the manager Hearts at home is as vital as Rapid at home.
His neck is on the line every single game.
He will pick the closest XI to the one that started on Thursday.
Obviously Dolcek for Pappoe and someone for Ferry.
Throw in some of the youngsters and he could pay the price.
I'm not saying the young ones don't deserve a pick, they do, but it doesn't work that way.
Tomorrow is every bit as big a game as Thursday.

I fully understand your reasoning of course, however I'm always in favour of playing the best team we can unless it's a dead rubber game. We could possibly rest Bert and give big Sam a game and Watters rested to play Stirton but I dont think we can do much about resting anyone else in my opinion. Obviously Ferry can't play so would need to maybe go 4 at the back again and KK to play left back. It's a tough call though definitely.

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

4 games into the season and the talk is of giving players a rest. Get the best team available  on the park against Hearts.
Even our best 11 will find it difficult on Sunday.
If changes are made and players like Fotheringham, Thomson or O'Donnell who are all not good enough for this level come in we have no chance.
I pay my money and expect UTD to go all out to win every game, not wave the white flag like some of the stuff I'm reading here.

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

Why have we not opened the JK for Utd fans?  George fox and ET completely sold out.

Also Hearts have sold out the shed and fair play upper, but fair play lower has been left empty.

Seems we’re happy to lose out on thousands of pounds.

Wouldn't Hearts have been offered the Fair Play Lower as well?
Even then the Shed and Fair Play Upper is a fair traveling support.
Probably just happy to get out of Edinburgh during the Festival.

As it stands then if UTD don't open the JK will this be the first time ever that any united fan wanting to attend a home game v Hearts is unable to get in ?

1986 possibily, Hearts at Tannadice, we shat our pants, lost 3-0, we were in the running for the title. Only time I can thing of when we'd have had a huge crowd v them.

Assuming this is aimed at myself. Not once do I mention I a white flag or throwing the game. I'm suggesting we rotate the team. If we had less injuries we would see 4 or 5 changes on Sunday, I am fairly sure of that. I think we do it anyway, as the players we are bringing in have all shown they have quality (Kai, Thomson, Stirton SCH) - ok maybe O'Donnell is one step too far but I stand by that we should be making at least 3 changes to the 11 that started on Thursday or we run the risk of losing both these matches due to fatigue.

If we had no injuries then yes I would agree with you about a few changes. However Fotheringham & Thomson, both in their early 20s are like boys in the men's game. Hearts would be delighted to see a UTD team sheet with them on it.
This is our 5th game of the season nobody is tired yet , get the best 11 available on the park at kick off.
This is a new team still gaining confidence and understanding  by playing together.
Forget all about Thursday until about 5pm tomorrow

There was almost certainly more UTD fans at the 86 game than there will be tomorrow but it was PATG and no UTD fans were locked out in the days where turnstile operators were not under pressure from the directors to close the gates.

The way I'm seeing this is that Hearts give UTD about 4% of the tickets at Tynecastle
And we are giving them about 20% of Tannadice and preventing some UTD fans from attending.

If you think 'nobody is tired yet' then you aren't watching closely enough.

I've been watching very clearly. There's a big difference between short term tiredness in the last 10-15mins and long term fatigue

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

You are both right @stilliving @LEK

It is both the start of the season so 'tiredness' should never really come into play, normally.

BUT

In the past 2 weeks n a bit we've endured two trips to play on the continent and this will be our 5th game in that time, three of them away (another tough away game in there to in Falkirk).

Considering the injuries we've already suffered to a light squad, then yes, some will already be suffering a bit of 'legginess', by being asked to play a bit more than they perhaps expected too.

So, we must utilise the squad very wisely, but i am 100% with Stillliving in as much as we start our strongest XI available and go from there (make early changes if needs be).

I all too well remember after we had that great victory against AZ we played Livi at home on the Sunday, three days later.

I genuinely couldn't believe what i was reading as i seen some 'die hard' Utd supporters say stuff like 'play the kids' etc etc. We lost 0-1 in a completely insipid display.

Four days later in Holland we suffer one of the clubs worst ever defeats.

Three days after that we get hammered 4-1 at Tynecastle on the day widely acknowledged Jack Ross lost the dressing room.

A few days later we suffer perhaps the clubs worst ever day in the 0-9 loss to Celtic.

My point is despite the current good feeling around the club we have achieved absolutely fuck all and one bad defeat can see a club (any club) tailspin badly.

One game at a time and try and win every single one.

Re: United vs Hearts - Sunday 10/8/25 (3PM)

This will be a tough game as they’ll be cheered on by a sold out shed. They should only be getting 650 tickets like they give us but that’s sadly not up top me.

Criminal that we’ve let ourselves get into a squad position like this while being in Europe and finishing 4th. On top of Strain, Trapa, Graham and Nammo coming back we need at least another 3-4 signings.

Not a single striker on the bench today. Ridiculous.

352 with Thomson and Dolcek as RWB and LWB respectively, I assume.
