His level of performance, fitness and application were so poor not even the angriest fan will suggest that we could have kept him even as a back up.

Doubt there's many United fans that will miss the chicken farmer comedian.
However there's a few that think we should have kept Louis Moult, I'm not one of them.

I'd have kept Moult, for one thing he was a model professional and a good role model for the younger players.

Assuming Goodwin is given the money from Moult and Watts wage together let's see where we are at the end of the window. That money should get you a good striker.
I agree with what you say though, LM is/was a great guy to have around the club.
There's a definite worry that we haven't yet replaced the leaders and warriors from last season. Still time.

I would’ve kept him for a season, good back up anyway.

Watt scored some important goals for us in 2023/24, the last minute goal up in Inverness in particular springs to mind. Think Goodwin managed him very well that season then got rid of him correctly when we went up.
He'll probably score a decent amount for Thistle in the Championship this season IF he decides to put the effort in.
Very glad he is away from Tannadice now.

Watt would have still been with us last season if it hasn't been for a) him turning up for pre-season about 2 stone overweight and looking like he'd been on a month-long bender in Ibiza and b) him taking the piss out of Goodwin on the bus coning back from a League Cup group game.
An arse of the highest order, even if he is actually a decent player.
