'Plays both legs' is a great line

Where?

He's under contract for another two years and is making headline news in Ireland for the goals he's scoring.

I can't for one minute imagine we could afford him. Be looking at spending 500k to get him.

Apparently a number of English sides want him. No chance we get him.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

We need a Striker and winger in this week.

So, they have enough time to bed in before the real stuff starts.

Our options in the last third are ridiculously poor, currently.

I agree Tek but I find it more reassuring that he gets the defensive side of things sorted out well before the season starts. You don’t lose goals you don’t lose games. Having said this I am as keen as you to get the middle to front sorted out.

One of our worst signings in recent years.
Good luck to his agent in putting together a highlights reel of his time in Scotland.

Scary thing is it will be a much more enjoyable video than the one VDSs agent puts together..

6 different angles of the hibs goal, the pitch invasion that followed, rounded off with footage of goodwin hitting the deck

Yes, but by the same token, if you don't score goals you don't win games.

Take away Sam Dalby last season and we were a team that struggled to score. Our options are currently barren.

I just don't want to get to the start of the season and here 'Such and such is just in the door and will need a mini pre-season and a run of games to get up to speed. Whilst we struggle to score or create.

We don't have the luxury of other options and need new players in in those areas now, if we are to be able to hit the ground running. That chance slips away by the day.

Dalby didn't sign until the last day of the window and it worked out brilliantly. I agree with you though, the earlier we get them in, the better. Especially our attacking players. I just wouldn't be surprised if it took a bit longer for the squad to be fully put together.

Dalby, Stephenson and Adegboyega all joined after the first league game of the season.

Yes, and as a consequence we never seen him make any type of real impact on the first team until late October/early November.

It's vital that we get players in soon, to give them a good run of friendlies and give them time to gel. We have even less options in the final third than we did at this time last season.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

Agreed, ive no doubt we'll sign a few loan players after the season has started but theres every chance we end up with a paton, campbell, foirini rather than a dalby, luca, manny making it vital we get good players in asap

Goodwin ecastic, saying Jort has came back fit and trim?? unphuckingbelievable. What was he before the season finished then? Worst signing i've ever seen in a quite a while and is a cult hero for being sh!te

If Goodwin had the time again he would not have signed Meshak or VDS.
However to claim that Meshak did more than VDS is just looking for an argument.
Meshak hardly stepped on the park  went on loan to the championship and hardly stepped on the park in the 2nd tier.
VDS has been a flop because he hasn't scored but IMO unlike Meshak he did look like he had played the game before.

VDS was a chronic subby last season. I don't know the numbers, but if he started more than 5 league games I'd be surprised.

He was on the pitch as a late sub for the majority of our late winners, so he certainly contributed a lot more than Meshack did last season, which isn't hard tbh.

He needs to step up this season though, and it starts by chipping in with a couple of goals here and there for sure.

I haven't seen many folk ripping the piss out Meshak, very much thanks for the goal vs Hibs, shame it didn't work out, all the best.

I think Goodwin has every right to be happy about a player coming back in great shape, it shows professionalism and a commitment to improving. It's the reason Tony Watt was fucked off, and the reason his whole career has been a flop to be fair compared to the initial promise.

Not saying VDS is brilliant but he's never looked disinterested and was very much a victim of Dalbys success. Coming back fitter and stronger means he's done as he's been asked, and shows he's committed to proving he's worth another shot. Wouldn't begrudge that of any player!

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

The one thing for me about Jort is that we were undefeated in 14 games last season when he was subbed on or something. He adds something but as a forward you’re only judged on goals which is unfortunate for him because he’s clearly not an out and out striker.

Next 3 signings need to be a left back cover, a winger and a goal scorer.

Fair enough comments but as a striker(or attacking player whatever you want to call him) you need to score goals and i cant remember many strikers in recent memory who look less likley to score, even mcnulty chipped in with a few

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

I am getting worried about strikers and attacking players  as well. BBC gossip saying this morning VDS and Stirton both away for scans on injuries. Think that leaves us with the Aussie who is untested? We need another winger and a proven striker in urgently. After that I am fine with a few late loan deals that might work out.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

VDS is one of the oddest players I have seen playing.  He never seems to shoot and his assists are limited, but you can't deny he adds something when he comes on late and causes tired CHs lots of problems.  He adds a level of chaos that boys like Dalby, Moult and big guys coming up from set pieces thrived from.  He's like putting a CH upfront late on, but one who still knows how to defend at that end of the pitch and get back into shape and harry.  Whilst also not weakening your defensive line.  He gets limited game time but still comes on and give his all like it is his debut and that is why (some) fans are willing to give him a little time - in any case he's here for another year as no other manager seems to have recognised his value (admittedly low).

Whether you like it or not, despite scoring no goals and assisting few, he did play a part in our successful season, unlike Meshak.  Jort would also have had more game time if he'd gone on loan to Livi.

If VDS was to depart this window I'd have no problem with that, but I'm also happy if he hangs around and I hope I am there when he eventually gets that goal.

I think we are about 6 or 7 hires away from a team that can get top 6.  Finding Dalby, Middleton and Moult replacements are paramount.  A way to go yet.
