Definitely a bit of a concern but at the same time, to keep a similar British core who would we have brought in that we could afford to upgrade those on that list?
I actually think it's going to be really interesting to see if he sees Graham as a starter this year over one of these incoming centrebacks. I'm never convinced that Goodwin rates him as much as he says in public.

It’s definitely hard. There’s not a lot of obvious upgrades in the league that are gettable. In a different time we would’ve went and taken Mulligan from the Fun but now Hibs are in a position to spend £500k+ on the compo, which we’ll never do under Ogren. We’re definitely gonna need investment from someone like a Matthew Benham at Brentford to keep up with Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen, otherwise we’re gonna see a bigger gap opening up in the coming years.

Or the Danish billionaire that lives in Scotland.

I think financially we are already so far away from those 3 in terms of what we can offer players.
I think we are in our own little bubble to be honest right in between those 3 bigger clubs and the rest of the league.

Bert Esselink’s the Dutch centre half. 25 year old who’s played in Cyprus and Poland his whole career.
Must admit, I am getting a wee bit nervous about all the foreign signings we’re making. I feel it’s a massive gamble ripping the experienced Scottish core that has done so well for us over the past 2 seasons to replace them all with largely inexperienced foreign players. What that does to the dressing room does concern me.
I really hope it doesn’t but I’ve got a feeling this season goes tits up again in big way. We’ve shifted too far away too quickly from what’s made us successful over the last couple of years.
Still a long way to go in terms of the makeup of the squad. I would imagine these ones have all been done early as we were cautious of the potential work permit/visa issues that can come from foreign players.
We did well with Walton for those couple of seasons but to be honest the general level of goalkeepers in Britain is at an all-time low at the minute, so I'm more than happy with us looking further afield (just not down under mate...).
The players we are relying on to keep the attitude of last season going are Strain, Ferry, Graham, Sibbald and Sevelj. They will likely start the vast majority of our matches if fit. Would love to see Sev given the armband, but time will tell.

Championship standouts are increasingly mopped up by the bigger money on offer not just in Glasgow but especially in Edinburgh.
It's a growing problem.
How we meet that challenge longterm remains to be seen. The club will be well aware of it and no doubt the Academy is seen as part of the solution but can never be all of it.
This leaves us looking for gems in the English lower leagues, Will Ferry being a good example, or lower leagues abroad where the risk of failure is higher (insert favourite flop here).
The financial gap to Hearts Hibs Aberdeen was always there but it's grown.
How we reduce the impact I don't know.

Personally I'm not overly concerned that the majority of the signings are coming from outwith Scotland.
The standard of player in Scotland is piss poor, I can't remember a time where its been worse.
There also problem of the extra Scottish income tax to get over.
If a player had to choose between 3k a week in the English lower leagues or 3k a week at Tannadice he would find his monthly net around £500 less in Scotland

It would help if all our promising kids didn’t fuck off to England the first chance they get.

Alan Temple’s saying that it was us that pulled out of the Hamulic move. Imagine they’ve uncovered some of his supposed attitude problems and decided he wasn’t worth the hassle. Or he’s acted the cunt at the last minute and asked for more money. Either way he sounds like the sort of character you avoid.

The market here is fucked, boys who might do a job for us who are at Killie or Well, are wanting 3k a week to move to United etc.

To be fair he was probably counting Hamulic in that.
Hamulic
Kucherenko
Esselink
Another
Club decided against Hamulic. So once Esselink confirmed and if there is another this week that would make it 3 since he said that on a podcast.
For what it's worth, he was speculating, because he is a reporter who gets everything through sources. But he's not usually far off wrong to be fair to the guy.
On the latest podcast, he make a joke about how he'll just not say things like that in the future because of the stick he's apparently had online since then. People take transfer season way too seriously.

Alan temple reporting we are talking to Ferencvaros in Hungary about a loan for 21 year old Issac Pappoe.
Plays central or attacking mid.

Just had a look at some of his clips. Looks to be a bit of a box-to-box midfielder. Good mix of him keeping possession and spraying passes from deep, but also a few goal and assists coming from breaking late in to the box.
The proof will be on the pudding, of course, but on first look he seems a decent option.
Games are often won and lost in midfield, so I like that we are not taking any chances with numbers.
Sibbald
Sevelj
Camara
Stephenson?
Pappoe?
That would give us a fair bit of depth even before you bring Odada and O'Donnell into the conversation.

Suppose it depends what formation Goodwin plans on playing most of the games with, last year 3 out of those 5 would be starting most of the games with at least 1 coming on as a sub, 1 or 2 injuries and we're looking light again
