Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

When does pre season start?

I dont mind about getting players in for the league but take the conference too lightly and we get knocked out...so needs a good xi for that.

Who have we
                      Richards
     ferry strain sch iovu graham.
Trap.       Vicko     sibbald          sapsford
                           Jort

Subs: meshack, odada, mcleod, stirton, Thomson, kai, odonnell?

Even if Stephenson returns, the midfield is awfully combative and not a huge amount of vision in there

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

Had expected at least another 3 or so in the door by now to be honest. I do wonder if we'll have anyone join on trial on Thursday.

Never convinced by trialists though, can't think of the the last boy we had play as a trialist that turned out any good. Ciftci at Wigan?

I distinctly remember seeing Christophe Rabitsch play in Brechin as a trialist, worst performance I'd ever seen in pre - season and we gave the c*** a 2 year deal the next day!

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

Yeah, I remember seeing Ciftci at East End Park and thinking get this boy signed.

I don’t mind scouting abroad for players but not for keepers until they’re proven.

We have Richards as a deputy. The last time we got relegated we had no decent backup.

Last time we were relegated we had no keeper.

Richards has played 2 games for us, 100 his whole career. He looked fine, but 2 games is way too small a sample size to base a massive decision that could get you relegated on, as we well know.

Deniz Mehmet looked fine in small doses for us too, and fine to bring in in emergencies but he wasn’t good enough to play week in week out. You need a keeper that totally inspires confidence in his backline, Walton despite a couple mistakes latterly, gave them that, that was obvious. I’m not sure Richards would do the same.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

I must confess, being linked with this Keeper has given me the fear.

You do not gamble with the Goalkeeper position. It's gotten us relegated three times, for doing just that and gambling on rookies and leftfield signings.

Henrik Jorgensen, Kelham O'Hanlon, - 94/95
McCallum, Zwick, Szromnik, Kawashima - 15/16
Birighitti, Eriksson, Newman - 21/22

Dave Richards done well those last two games, but as Jerry Dungle correctly points out, you cannot gamble on him being potential Number 1 on just two games. The only two games he played in two years btw.

Ruairidh Adams done well at Kelty but has never played for the first team or at any level near Premiership.

Which means we need a solid, established Number 1 at a good age, with good experience. Preferably one who's played UK football.

This Ukranian Keeper seems like a crazy gamble imo.

So,

The first two rumours are -

Scott Tiffoney on a free transfer from over the road and some Croatian Striker called Ivan Durdov (possible recommendation from Sevelj?).

Dundee announced tonight Scott Tiffoney definitely moving on.

Turned down a new deal.

Stand by my opinion that he'd be a really good signing.

He's played enough top flight games in better leagues than ours though so he can't really be that bad. We've had plenty of good keepers from that part of the world so I'll be happy to give him a chance if he signs.

I'll drive up and kidnap the cunt myself though if he's anything like the Aussie 🤣

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

It sounds like the Ukrainian keeper is more or less a done deal. Now I’ve no doubts that recruitment is being handled more professionally than under Asghar and that we’ve done our homework on him, and his stats must’ve flagged something that drew our interest. Like other have said, we’ve signed keepers from that part of the world before and they’ve gone on to be massive successes.

However, Goodwin must be prepared to make a judgment on him early, as in before the transfer window slams shut. And if he is looking ropey in the first few games, we have to be prepared to pivot. Both of our recent relegations have come from a management team/sporting director that was too proud/arrogant to eat humble pie and admit they got it wrong with the keeper, instead choosing to persevere to a point at which the damage was done.

Ogren must be able prepared to find some money down the back of the couch if things go tits up this season because signing all these foreigners can go one of two ways.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

Doc, Mould and Gallagher all invited to watch the draw with the rest of the squad. Few others but boys like Walton and Middleton couldn’t make it due to travelling, while Watt wasn’t invited at all.

Yep,back in training tomorrow with the bare bones of a squad, not even the two we have apparently signed have done their club interviews yet. Not a word from the club ,you'd think they'd be moving their arses quicker to boost season ticket sales .

No one is panicking but it's not unreasonable to expect a bit more activity at this stage. Pre season starts tomorrow and we have rinsed most of the squad from last season. There's really no need to be smarmy about it 👍

I'm led to believe that we have secured 3 new players and working hard on a 4th, should be announcements tomorrow.
