Seems to be Jim Goodwin has entered the betting for new Plymouth Manager.
Ironically, the team his name sake Ross Goodwin has just joined from.

I am not overly worried about this. Is it 2 kids he's got at school up here, and the oldest is in Celtic's academy?
Goodwin's always struck me as quite pragmatic and I feel if he was going to go to a team in England it would be a team north of Yorkshire so he could somehow commute and continue to live up here.
Never know though... I dread to think who we'd end up with off the Scottish managerial merry go round...

All that is true, but there might also be the nagging feeling that he's taken United as far as he can, with the undoubted budget restraints that he'll have upon him.
It would not surprise me at all if he departs this Summer.

Down to 8 to 1 now.

We’re no needing this tbh

Budget would definitely be a big thing, particularly if Ogren skimps on it since he's wanting out.
With that said, Goodwin has never played or coached in Europe. I don't think a recently relegated Plymouth in League 1 is a particularly great opportunity with all respect to them. I know they're a bigger club than a lot of people realise, think they have a fair bit of a wait list for season tickets but all the same.
I think he looks at us this season and knows that negotiating us in to the group stages would send his stock through the roof and even failing that, a couple of half decent cup runs would likely get him something better.
I think there's a bit of a learned lesson from his move to Aberdeen which might make him even more cautious to jump ship.

Agree with Snacks, not what we're needing at this moment in time.
25/1 is usually because someone mentioned the name on a forum
12/1 is someone debated by fans on another forum because they saw the name on a forum debate
8/1 is journo speak for names on shorter odds have dropped out
4/1 is when you start to worry
In all honesty I can't see this but there's a reason his name is on there as opposed to the bookies normal favourite Robinson.

Remember Schteve McLaren was favourite for the United job?

Football is a game of small margins. If results had not gone our way on the last day of the season (Richards save, the Celtic equalizer) instead of the worry of JG going to Plymouth there would be a flurry of posts saying I'll drive him there myself.

Maybe this intolerance to the small margins would make jim (Or any other manager) want to leave quickly. I don't know if united fans are any different to any other fan base but theres a vocal element of a Goodwin outers who want him gone after a couple of losses and never seem to let him build up any level of goodwill to ride out the tough times.
Got to let people feel the love if you want them to be loyal to you - or to have a tie to you which they dont want to break.

It would surprise me if he did. He’s mentioned once or twice that he’s never taken part in Europe before and really looking forward to it.

To take us up decently comfortably, deliver Europe, finish above the club where it ended in disgrace, where he was given the blame for the failings of the players who saw off another manager, he's gone a fair way to restoring his reputation.
Now, money talks, but he'd be moving to a club with high expectations, probably a shit load more pressure.
Even staying with us, consolidating top 6, maybe (We fucking better) get a cup run, his stock only grows.
He could move kinda sideways to Hearts in 12 months as they bin another manager.

Not sure how many of you have been to Plymouth. It's a long way from anywhere by road and doesn't have an airport. Unless there's some Goodwin connection to the Directors we're unaware of I just don't see this happening.

Despite my "not worried" stance in earlier posts, the fun appointing Pressley has given me the fear as to the kind of rubbish we could end up with at the helm if Goodwin did leave.
Better the devil you know...
Offline
Well if he does go, it won't be Pressley.
So there's that at least.

All of this is coming just from him being listed in the betting, has anybody seen anything anywhere that actually links him to being interested in going to Plymouth?

Totally agree Tangy, he gets a hard time with us.
Very perceptive what you say about him not being able to build up any level of goodwill.
He was 90 mins away from getting told to GTF.
10 in a row split game losses etc. The fans were ready with this one.
I can see him moving on.
Then we're back in the mire.
I was glad the Fun didn't get Maloney, that's all I'm saying.

Yes. Also, a prospective investor has withdrawn (probably why Ross Goodwin left). In addition Goodwin’s son is settled at St Ninians in Kirkintilloch and one daughter is studying in Edinburgh.
That said, if adequate funds are not made available for transfers, it is quite possible a number of other clubs might prove appealing.

Told this morning Cardiff have expressed an interest

What's Goodwins contract situation like? I've got it in my head he signed a one year extension a wee bit back, but I don't know when that extension ends.

He has a few links to the club but not really - tbf I find that this current set up with the recruitment team rarely let things slip out

Goodwin’s contract expires next summer. It probably wouldn’t take much to buy him out of his final year if an English Championship club really wanted him.
Bookmakers (like politicians) have a job to do in the “silly” season. Goodwin has achieved a lot in two seasons with a tight budget, so I’m not surprised they lump him in the odds.
I did post some months ago, that if I were Goodwin, I would give Ogren a “put up or shut up” ultimatum in terms of funds, but, he probably won’t do that.
Still it’s football anything can happen.

In terms of the job itself, that would be a great job for him.

Yeah unfortunate cleft stick isn't it.
The more we demand => the more he succeeds => the sooner he gets an offer he can't refuse.
Then becomes a case of big of a carrot Mr. O can offer him to stay plus the fact that he's able to mould just about the whole set up here which is what he likes.
I think it's inevitible he goes, it's just a question of how long we can keep him.
Oh aye forgot to say, anybody in their right mind would want a pathway out of the fishbowl of Scottish football.
