Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

United posting interviews from both Luca Stephenson and Sam Dalby at tonight's Player of the Year Awards.

Sounds very much like both want to stay.

Scott Tiffoney rumour doing the rounds.

Be very happy with that. We should have signed him from Partick two years ago.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Tiffoney isn't a nailed starter along the road, so not sure of this one.

However, plenty of players move and thrive at a club with a level of expectation.

His stats are better than any of our wingers i'd bet though.

Why would we swap players with the club that finished 10th? Rather have Middleton all day long than a guy who couldn't even get in their side most of the time.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Saw the Dalby and Stephenson interviews...Stephenson is still under contract at Liverpool so assuming they are happy to loan him again then that feels like a possibility.

Dalby on the other hand, he was asked if playing in Europe appealed to him, he said of course it does, but realistically that's the only answer he could have given, especially at an awards ceremony. I fear money will talk, as it usually does, but let's see!

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

See that Kai wasn’t in the POTY squad photo that Utd put out on instagram, wonder if he’s been told he’s leaving?

He wasn’t in the squad on Saturday so he might have a personal issue.

That's fair, however there were reports last night he said "I might need to make sure my passport is renewed!" and a video of him saying such has emerged.

Now again, it might be the case he's doing as you'd expect, but that was more of a clue than a stock response.

Dearie me, do I have to point it out in words of one syllable?  I agree with you that Middelton hasn't had a fantastic season.  It's been on the cusp of passable - the point was he's been better, comparatively than last season.

Football is for me.  I watch a lot of it.  I can take pleasure watching football at all tiers in Scotland and take in as much 4-7 tier as I do top tier.  Not everyone has to be prime Maradona for it to be enjoyable.  As others have suggested it is maybe you that needs to re-evaluate what you get out of the game.

Docherty and Middleton are not pish.  Granted I think their true level is bottom of the Prem/top of the Championship and I agree we need to strive for better players, but I am also realistic about where the club is and the quality it can get on to the park.  Would I extend their contracts?  Unless we have likely better players lined up (and in that sense more than one), in Middleton's case yes.  In Docherty's case, I struggle with his absence rate but do accept we play better when he plays.  I think we can probably do better with a more reliable player of his quality so I'd probably let him go.

On gaslit, I obviously do know what it means - some people, it would seem, over use it in situations that are not really gaslighting at all.  The comment is more why would you come on here if you feel people are gaslighting you?  They aren't.  It is a footy forum.  People are going to disagree with you.  If you think people on here give enough of a shit about you to actively seek to gaslight you then on you go...!

You probably think I'm gaslighting you now...

You're all over the place fella.

First Middleton's had a fantastic season, then its "mediocre to good" now it's just better than last year - have a cup of tea, chill out and pick one. Being less shite than last season doesn't magically make him good.

"I don't know what gaslit means" then turns around to lecture on how I have misused it. Righto.

This isn't about enjoying 4th tier football. It's about calling out pish when its glaringly obvious. Docherty and Middleton aren't good enough. Dressing it up doesn't make it any less of a total loser mindset. You do care. If you didn't you wouldn't be writing essays defending mediocrity and contradicting yourself in the process.

Indeed I'm all over the place.  I'll remember to write in binary the next time for your comprehension.  So a player is either pish or not pish and he either ruins our weekends or he doesn't.  Am I getting it?  All our players are pish.  Think I'm mastering this.

I'm beginning to like this gaslighting lark - might try it out elsewhere too.

Anyway mate, roll on the end of the season.  I feel so much of a loser supporting Dundee United, I'm thinking I might not bother next year...actually given we can't afford any players that are 'good enough' maybe we won't have a team anyway.

Conway, hope you enjoyed Saturday.  We're not pretty at times but the dig is there for all to see.  Appreciate that we don't agree on everything, but at the end of the season we're still all Arabs.  All the best for summer and to Euro trips (probably just the two!).

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Gallagher apparently went away down south a few weeks ago to get injections in his back just so he could play the last few games of the season knowing we were short at the back.

Surely that combined with his heroics in the majority of games this season merits Goodwin rethinking his decision regarding his contract?

How many players would put their bodies at risk like that to play through the pain for a club that’s just told them they’re getting binned?

An absolute model pro and a colossus at the back for us this season. Any team would be very lucky to have him in their ranks next season.

Not official quite yet? But best for both parties. It hasn't really worked out. I had high hopes for DB but it wasn't to be. We're still looking for that playmaker.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Ross Docherty has been told he is not getting a new deal.

Disappointing as he is a very good player but I guess if there is any possible issues over fitness given how many games he missed last year then I can also understand why.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Madness letting him go imo, Goodwin taking a hell of a gamble letting Gallagher docherty moult holt all leaving within 6 months of each other, I’d imagine these boys probably ran the dressing room.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Reference Gallagher, Babunski & now Docherty. The club is being quite critical, no time for sentiment, which is the way it should be I guess.
We know nothing of the contracts and surmising could be so inaccurate.
I'd have a guess that Gallagher got a 2-yr contact in 2023 on £3k/wk and maybe this time he was offered just one year at £2.5k??
Middleton might be on £2.5k and has maybe been offered 2 years at £2k? Really don't know.
What he has to do is weigh up the consequences & speak to his wife. It is all about bread & butter & we as a club do not have money to burn.
Anyone ITK?

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

Yeah I’m gutted for Doch. We were a better team with him in it but according to transfermarkt-

Last season- 43 games
Doch’s appearances- 22

Fitness is obviously behind Jim’s decision.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

I think it's the right decision regarding Docherty. regrettably.

We aim to play a lot more games next season. We need players who can aim to play 50+ games.

Re: Out of contract players in Summer - Who would you keep?

I’m sad to see Docherty go. When fit, he’s probably in the top 3 best centre midfielders in the league outside the old firm. I hoped that him playing the last 8 games of the season was gonna be enough to convince Goodwin to give him another year.

Wasn’t to be though. His fitness concerns have obviously been the deciding factor. Whoever gets him is getting an absolutely phenomenal player at this level if they can keep him fit. We’ll do very well this summer to find a central midfielder as good as a fit Ross Docherty.
