Gallagher has done a great job for United.
I'm just a little surprised at the timing of all this.
It would be entirely natural for him to go into the last five games now not wanting to get injured and wreck a move elsewhere.
Not ideal.
It's only right that United give players a bit of notice if they are being offered a new contact or not, timing seems fair.
It wasn't United who leaked the news. It was probably Declan's agent publicly alerting clubs of his availability.
I would have preffered we waited till our involvement in 3rd/4th place pursuit was confirmed or over, personally.
The minute players know they're leaving, it's only natural that they start to think about their next move and that involves, as i said, not getting injured.

these guys have played 40plus weeks football without a decent break. If they know they need to find a new club this gives them a chance to do so before this season is finished.

It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up at St Johnstone in the Championship.
Alternatively, at Falkirk or even back at Livi, especially if they get promoted.

I'm not sure he'll enjoy playing on plastic every other week tbh

It's a long season, yes.
But the majority of our players have had two week breaks regularly in the past two or three months.
Our focus shouldn't be individuals future moves, and i don't mean that in a callous way.
Priority should be solely on the next five games, only. We have a huge fight for 3rd and 4th.
A fight we are the underdog in.

The spotlight atm is around Gallagher, that's because his agent has gone to the media. Other players like Moult Middleton Docherty et -al will also have been told if there is an offer or not.
IMO Gallaghers agent has made his clients current situation worse .
Remember Utd have said nothing on this matter.
Maybe Gallagher was offered a one year deal on reduced terms but told us to f**k off.

I assume when you mean two week breaks you mean there has been a Saturday there hasn't been a match day. The guys have still trained. In comparison I understand St Mirren players were given all of last week off.
I don't think the focus is on individual moves, its just like any Company that employs contractors, they come to the end of their contract, some may be asked to stay for others it will be thanks and good bye. The HR people deal with that side, the majority of the football people will deal with football stuff.
You'll definitely not get the best out of people if there's uncertainty particularly those who could have a geographical move.
I'm sure the players will be focused on the next 5 games regardless.

I'm am sure they will be focused, but will they go through the pain barrier and potentially make them unavailable for a few months and jeopardise any potential deal with a new club?
I am not so sure, the club should have held off two or three weeks.
We should be looking at a bit of continuity overall imo, the best quality this group has is that they give a shit, something too many squads we have assembled in previous years lacked.

I agree that the club should’ve held back a few weeks but let’s be honest the players deserve to know considering it’s almost May. I’m sure boys like big dec will give it 100% for pride and for the chance at a good contract next season.
Good luck to him, been a good signing over these 2 seasons.

It's totally acceptable that there is an understanding between the player and the club about future plans at this point, but I don't think that should've been made public. If Gallacher has a dip in form or makes a mistake between now and the end of the season there is a huge chance that the fans will be on his back accusing him of not trying, taking the piss, not caring. If that happens, that won't benefit anyone.

That's Moult confirmed as leaving too. Farewell to a very good player who was a bit unlucky this season.

When Moult was signed the pundits said if United can keep him fit they'll have a very good striker on their hands. Would be interesting to see his goals to minutes played stats. And how many games he's been available for out of United games played this season.
That said, he seems like a nice guy so thanks Louis, Arabest for the future.

The correct call for me, unlucky with injuries that were expected all the same.
Played his part, no doubt about it ,a very good striker who will always be welcomed back.

Moult was pivotal in getting us up, but if most of us are being honest, his injury concerns were a worry when he extended last season. He was probably due a deal/promised one, it hasn't really harmed us, but it appears we've learned from it.
Good luck in where you end up next unless it Dundee, or Saints, or anybody we'll face ever again.

Looks like the recruitment team are on the case. Could be an exciting early summer given Europe qualification is most likely.
Hopefully it's more Ferry/Svelj than Odada/Campbell

Apparently the reason Gallagher’s been released is that Goodwin wants us to play with a high line next year, which will obviously require quicker centre halves. A risk, but it might work out, we tried this under Jack Ross, but at least Goodwin’s obviously looking for players who can play in this style rather than trying to implement it with centre halves that are slower than a weekend in Bell Street (Mulgrew and Edwards).
Moult leaving is a pretty obvious one. Never thought there was even a slight chance he’d get another deal due to the injuries and bit part role he’s played this season. Another one though who can walk out of Tannadice with his head held high. Played a massive part in getting us promoted and unfortunate that due to injury and the form of Dalby, just couldn’t string a run together this season.

You could use this argument on players like Walton

You could, but he's not 34, and in the back of mind thinking about a catalogue of wee niggles he's picked up throughout his career which could prevent him turning up for pre season in little over 6 weeks from any potential new employer.
Let's hope he plays the next 5 games and we are scratching our heads as to why we are letting him go.
Again for me, I would be giving him a 2 year deal with a view to coaching in it (if we could persuade him). Both SCL and Graham could do with an experienced head that they trust, in and around the club.

I can see us signing Conor McCarthy. Irish CH, 27/28.
Out of contract at Barnsley, used to play at St Mirren (I think under Goodwin, would have to check that).
Fits the mould.

Seems like it wasn't long ago since Jim Goodwin hailed Miller as having a great future - at right back.
